    This video is a presentation by Dr. David G. Lewis before a live audience that was sponsored by Yesterday in Turner Historical Society on May 10, 2024. Dr. David G.Lewis is Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Indigenous Studies at Oregon State University. Dr. Lewis provides a look inside his well-researched and illustrated published book, "Tribal Histories of the Willamette Valley". The time line spans the first years of contact between settlers and tribes of Kalapuya, Chinook, Molalla and other tribes who existed in the Willamette Valley in Oregon for thousands of years. Discussed is the takeover of tribal lands and creation of reservations by the US Federal Government, and the assimilation efforts of boarding schools. Dr. Lewis shows the resiliency of Native peoples in the face of colonization.
