Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful girl named Asatkan, who had given her heart to a hunter named Bärkä. They were planning to have a grand wedding, the kind that people would talk about for years to come. But just a few days before the big celebration, Asatkan found out that her future husband had fallen in love with another girl. Her heart was broken and she begged the moon Bega to take away her pain. As the snow-Sinilgän fell, Asatkan wept bitter tears. The moon looked down on her and sang:
"Weep not, oh light that shines above the moon,
For your beloved's heart has strayed afar.
His footsteps fade into the dark of night,
So do not weep, nor tarry, nor seek his star..."
