    ...Back to this painting...
    I give some tips on how to keep your plein air set up /easel steady in the wind and weather and the mistake I made which led to my easel biting the dust and tipping over.
    Some other takeaways from this beautiful Colorado fall plein landscape adventure:
    ☑️#1: Don't be afraid to use thick paint.
    ☑️#2: Don't be afraid to use pure color right out of the tube without mixing it.
    ☑️#3: Look for the color and temperature variations in the light objects, and the shadow objects that you are painting. Don't just use one color.
    ☑️#4: Oh, and last..weigh down your easel in case it's windy, and ..tighten those knobs on the legs to the max and bring a small wrench for those cold days when it gets stuck!
    Keep watching, and I'll see you in the mountains !
    (I have been formally trained through an apprenticeship in the style of Russian Impressionism with veteran plein air painter Don Sahli, won awards for my plein air paintings, and have successfully sold paintings in galleries, shows and private commissions all over the USA.)
    I'm here to help BEGINNER plein air landscape painters. I look forward to helping you make beautiful plein air paintings and discover your passion!

    No I'm 77 and I want to paint. It is fun but it is sort of what i think is soul satisfying. No my painting is not very good but it is what i like to do since i cannot sing anymore. A lot things come up to prevent me from painting.
    Thanks for the encouragement. Happy Birthday!

    Just went on my first plein air painting adventure yesterday! It was so much fun going out on a nice sunny day and painting with friends :D
    It was a slow start to the painting ( the ugly phase as I call it ) but it all came together in the end. My favorite part of the painting was definitely going in at the end with a palette knife and really making the tree leaves and branches "pop" off the canvas :)
    Thanks so much for showing us your progress in plein air painting. Keep up the great work! :D

    Thanks for posting this video. I like En plein aire. I try... but I only end up smearing paint on panels outside. but hey, it's fun to try.
    I was also living in Switzerland. I was great friends with Bill McDougall, Stefan Grogg and the rest of the team (EV Zug) while I lived there in the 90's. In fact Stefan actually came to visit me in Southern California for a week when returned stateside. I was saddened to learn of his fight with ALS.

So neat that you knew some players, I remember Stefan ... take care , talk to you again , and hope you keep plein air painting 👍👍

      @@LearningPleinAir - That's so cool. I was born here in the States and I didn't know anybody when I first went there in '91. I was only 22. But I technically grew up into a man there so I consider Luzern my hometown in CH.
      ZSC was my favorite hockey team, by the way. FCZ was my favorite soccer team. I loved it when we played Basel in both sports. Feldschlossen's and the fun skirmishes. LOL... I'm glad I found your channel. Tchuus

      Wow, no way! Where do you live now CA ? ZSC teams were so great, my brother played for them in 1999- early 2000's, Mark Ouimet... and Luzern is a most beautiful place, love the bridge. I really love Basel too , the whole country is simply amazing, and good food. They got a lot of snow this winter up in the mountains my brother said. Tchuss!

    Can we do Plein air painting with acrylic or it has to be in oil

    • @LearningPleinAir
      @LearningPleinAir  3 года назад +1

      oil paint is easier and more friendly to different weather and temperatures , but yes you can most certainly plein air paint with acrylic paint. 😀
      If the weather is dry, your paints will dry quicker though, also acrylics stop working well in very cold temperatures/snow. Let me know how it goes! Thank you for reaching out Mahjbeen

    So your pieces are basically chuncking things into component parts mate? Like the dialogues, many dont talk and makes it hard to follow the thought process jey.

    • @LearningPleinAir
      @LearningPleinAir  3 года назад

      Hey Burt yes exactly mate 👍
      my strategy is not to paint mountains or trees but to paint objects -large objects to small objects and get the right color value and temperature , so I try to paint what I see and not what I know, Chuncking the landscape into 3 to 5 pieces is a great way to get started so you don’t get lost in the weeds
      thanks for watching! 😁

    I don't get it. Why bother] en plein air if you aren't going to paint what you see? If all you are going to do is plop blobs of paint all over the place why not just do it at home and call it scenery. That doesn't look anything like the scene. Nothing at all.

    • @LearningPleinAir
      @LearningPleinAir  2 года назад +2

      Thanks for watching Phillip, 😄 I en plein air paint for the peace and joy it brings and I love to be in the mountains, I hate studio painting unless its for skills practice or I'm painting a commission. Perhaps you are more into realism painting ? and not familiar with Russian Impressionism,.. I'm not trying to replicate a photo of the scene, I love the painting, its exactly the scene I was looking at and my goal is to create an impression, a memory and a feeling, not a photo..but you are certainly entitled to your opinion!....and that is why we all love art, its an expression and beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Watch a few more videos and see what impressionism is all about 👍, God bless buddy..
