As someone who still uses the 8 and am going back to the store today to return the 13 with the plan to keep using the 8 for at least another 8 months, I would still recommend to someone who wants to save money to strongly consider the new SE 3 or older SE 2 if their plan is to use a phone as long as possible.
I like the iPhone 8. Before upgrading to the XR, I was using the 6s. However, while I like to iPhone XR’s larger screen, I still sometimes miss the old home button and the small and simple design. I might get either the SE (second generation) or the 8. I loved this video as it still goes to show that most of the phones that we have or love still get a good kick at our daily lives, especially now.
Using iPhone 7 for the last 5 years and it is still better, I mean it has started to show minor hiccups, and battery health dropped to 72% but I can safely say, nothing alarming yet.
I just bought a 13 mini PRODUCT Red, after over 4 years of loyal service from my iPhone 8 256 Gb. Battery when I returned it was 92%, so relatively OK. I rarely had to top up the battery before the end of the day. Basically the only reason I decided to get a new phone was that it was getting slow. What I really loved about it was the esthetics of it, easily the most beautiful phone I’ve had so far. Though my 13 mini’s gorgeous as well!
I have one and I agree, it has one extra Gb or ram, one extra camera lens and a bigger battery in a full hd display. But I wish it had a smaller footprint, operating with one hand is kinda difficult.
I agree. Bought the 8+ for one of my older relatives because she loves the Home button. When this eventually dies, it’s good to know there’s the iPhone SE (3rd Edition) for her.
I have an iPhone 8 I bought it a year ago (used). This is my first ever iPhone and I’m impressed how great it works. The battery health is on 86% and for me it’s 5hours screen time/ day. Also it takes super photos if you try yourself you’ll see! Great video!
Damn, you must be a super light user! If you ever upgrade to anything newer like a 13 or 13 mini, you'll probably be able to get over 10 hours screen time!
I’ve got an iPhone 8 , actually I’m using it right now. It’s a really good phone, the only reason I’m going to upgrade is because it’s getting slow and (sometimes) it turns of on its self during FaceTime calls
My wife has an iPhone 12, but she wants to have a back up phone (as our country is sort of dangerous, most people have a backup phone when they go to certain places to run errands and stuff) Now I think an iPhone 8 would be a great option.
Its sad that in a lot of places people can't comfortably treat themselves to nice things with their money because someone might pull up next to you with knife take your stuff and drive off.
@@Jorge27Carrasco hopefully since you guys are doing well financially hopefully someday you guys can move someplace nicer where its normal to have these things and wouldn't catch attention of others
I feel like once the iPhone SE3 comes out, the iPhone SE2 is going to come down in price enough that the price difference between it and an iPhone 8 might become pretty much negligible. Already, if we're going factory unlocked, Very Good - Refurbished, an iPhone 8 is $165 and an SE2 is $220. For your $55, you get a faster chip, just a newer phone in general, and an extra gig of RAM. There are also unseen differences I believe, since the faster chip allows the SE2 to do some new stuff. Like if you put an iPhone 8 and an iPhone SE2 side by side, despite having the same camera hardware, I think the SE would probably end up with better results. Now, to someone with $165 to spend on an iPhone, I could definitely understand the hesitation to spend another $55. For a $1,000 phone, an extra $55 would be a no-brainer. But for under $200? An extra $55 is almost another price bracket, really. So I guess my other question is, how's the battery life? Is there any way to use some sort of "power saving" mode on the SE2 to slow the chip down to save juice? Have the newer iOS versions done anything to help either phone? Is there actually a battery life argument to be made for CHOOSING the iPhone 8 over the SE2? I would love to get your thoughts on any of this.
I have an iPhone 8, and it’s perfect for me… I don’t take a lot of pictures. I just used my phone to send text messages and watch Netflix and RUclips videos. I thought about upgrading after I finished my bachelor's, but honestly, I think I’ll wait and upgrade my phone after finishing my master's. I don’t have any issues with my phone, I haven’t noticed any battery issues, but it will be nice to have a phone that lasts a little longer. I think that battery will be my biggest reason to upgrade, not because my battery is not working but because new phones have a bigger battery and last longer.
Canadian reviewer eh? Well I took my two-year-old iPhone 8 to London Drugs a month ago and got a new Apple certified battery installed for $72 I think that’s a pretty good deal, and there’s really no slow down with this phone yet. I can’t say the same for the iPhone 7 I had for 2 1/2 years, it was struggling to load a Facebook page so I got rid of that and so far this eight has been perfect so I’m gambling by putting the new battery in it and hoping to get two more years. If I hadn’t put a new battery in my iPhone 8 I would’ve grabbed the amazing deal I saw on the Facebook buy and sell group for an SE 2020 with 98% battery health for $160! My friend will probably buy this one after I told him about it but yeah it is still fine for me I can still play PUBG and everything on it no lags
Just ordered my iPhone 8 upgrading from 6s. 😂. I have had two 6s's. Had brief stint with iPhone 11 back to 6s within a week. I love the design and it's the right size for carrying in pocket. I don’t want something heavy and big. Prefer lcd over OLED display which causes noticeable strain on my eyes- therefore the 13 mini is no deal for me. iPhone 8 nearly 1/2 price compared to SE 256gb. I’m also wanting to detox on my portable mobile in 2022 so my main driver will be my iPad Pro which will stay at home. I’m only going to download essential functional apps-no social networking, shopping, etc. The 256gb storage will be great on the 8 as I take a lot of photos screenshots and videos-4K videos take up huge data. Big storage means less time having to continually transfer photos and videos when full. I have a portable battery charger which is works great for 3 full charges so won't have to worry with battery running out.
Great video. Since 4G and 5G are supposed to run parallel for several more years, now is the time to come to understand the used and dated phone markets. Most of my customers who don’t want to give up their button phone give the button as the primary reason. The gen 3 SE is for them, but people who won’t get a G3SE, the reason is clearly underlying because they still won’t budge. Cell phone buying can be a mini version of car buying. If your cell budget is limited, it’s a process you resist. One of my customers has been debating over a year. My own 20yo kid actually wants a flip phone, having had a smart phone since 12.
This is my issue. Currently got the 8 plus but need to get a new phone. I’ve been putting it off for ages as I like the home button and Touch ID. Looked at the new se but from the plus it’s just too small. Wish they had done an se plus! Think I’m going to be forced into the 13 and have to get with the times and give up my home button
@@melissat922 your iPhone 8 Plus can be repaired. In many cases, it is simply a matter of finding a shop that will do the work. @@melissat922 Late post, but perhaps buying a refurbished iPhone might be the way to go. I’m surprised he mentions performance as a plus. I’m still rocking an iPhone 8. It’s not terribly slow, but it is significantly slower on iOS 15. 12 and 14 ran great on this phone, 15 slowed it down to a crawl in my experience
@@DarkFlame8777 Yeah, the smaller storage might make your phone slower if it's almost full. Also, I had my battery replaced so I'm rocking around 4 to 4/30 hours of screen on time which is fine for any light to normal user.
Reasons you shouldn't. I've owned an iPhone 8 Plus for three years. Is starting to feel slow with some apps. Not an issue if you bought it when it was released, but you don't want to buy in 2022 a phone that is starting to feel slow. As a random example: If you open the Netflix app and try to install the game "Hextech Mayhem: A League of Legend Story", you won't be able, the device is not supported. You'll start seeing more and more apps not supported by this phone. And also add the downsides that Mark mentioned at the second part of the video. Really, don't buy a 2017 phone in 2022 just because is "cheap".
That’s probably because your battery is too old that’s why everything runs slow. If you change it to a brand new battery and update the latest software because even iPhone se (first generation) supports iOS 15 so it shouldn’t be a problem to a iPhone 8. This will basically make your iPhone 8 feels like u just bought it straight when it was released.
@@hustlawg brand new battery in my iPhone 8 Plus. It’s normal for a smartphone from 2017 to start to feel a little bit slow on 2022, even with a new battery. I’m not saying everything is running slow and the phone is completely unusable. For me, that I bought this device in 2018, the phone works perfectly. I’m OK with some random stuttering. But if I were buying this phone on 2022, I wouldn’t be very pleased. And, as I mentioned, some apps are not compatible with this device just because. Yes, this phone can handle Genshin Impact, yet Netflix and Riot decided that their latest game won’t install on this phone because “it’s too old”. Some new race tracks from Real Racing 3, such as Monaco, are too much for this device. It’s a really good phone if you bought it when it was released. It’s not a phone you want to buy in 2022.
The 8 Plus is even better. I'm still impressed by how 3GB RAM and A11 Bionic still manages to launch and run multiple apps pretty smoothly. Plus, you get the Telephoto camera for zoom and Portrait Mode
During past year finally I returned to Apple ecosystem when I bought my iPhone 8 Plus, and I use it as my main phone for everyday tasks like calls, work, social media, RUclips, music and a bit of (Barely) casual gaming, let me tell you, this phone still feels like a fresh phone. It is quick, handles well multitasking, and feels a bit “premium” everytime I touch it. Also a big thanks to Apple since they continue to support and update this phone for so long. My only concern the is battery life since it goes from 100% to 10% every 24 hours or less, nothing much to do since older iPhones had little batteries.
I'm in the Android (Samsung) universe due to the initial iPhones being too small, but my car only has Apple Car Play and I wanted to at least experiment with it. I didn't feel like buying a brand new iPhone so I went shopping, found an unlocked iPhone 8 for $150 and it hits on a great price point and even installed some apps to use on CarPlay as well.... and subscribed to the iOS Beta stream.
In 7 months the iPhone 8 will Be 5 years old. The iPhones have a nice timeframe in which they last but this phone may be discontinued soon. I'd personally recommend the 11 or the XR

So ummm… I have one of these I got when my mom got her 10 and I was so excited and umm she bought it for 700$ I was so happy until…I put it on the charger one night and it went right to 100% after 1 minute 😅 I was scared so I used it and the battery drained quickly it is now in my room I haven’t charged it for 3 months and I am so freaking scared it turns off by itself and it’s glitchy and the sound resets just reply if you know a safe way to fix my phone 😂🎉
Sorry but I have to disagree. If anything the SE is a better buy, especially considering it has much better hardware for about the same price. But anyways, I still wouldn’t recommend either mainly because of the outdated design and poor battery life. Overall I’d say a used/refurbished 11 is where it’s at in terms of value; you can generally find it for less than $400 and get a more modern design as well as much better battery life.
Should I upgrade to the 12 or the 11? I’m contemplating cause Apple is going to stop supporting it in 2 years and I need to change the battery of my iPhone 8

Hahaha me too! I forgot about that.

@@MarkSpurrell Hi, Hey! So does the 8 still cost about 200-300? I live in the U.S And am interested in buying the 8.
I'm still using the Iphone 7+. I've had it in 2017 & it still serves me well till today.
I got a iPhone 7 but I’m gettin a iPhone 8
As someone who still uses the 8 and am going back to the store today to return the 13 with the plan to keep using the 8 for at least another 8 months, I would still recommend to someone who wants to save money to strongly consider the new SE 3 or older SE 2 if their plan is to use a phone as long as possible.
Thinking of upgrading from iPhone 8 to iPhone se 3 in a few months
@@MillhouseSpeaks just get a new battery for the 8, it will run like new and it's less than 50$
I like the iPhone 8.
Get the second generation se it’s better than the 8. Better battery life and it has a faster chip and it’s way better.
Third generation coming out this year
Iphone se 3 is launched and starter price is 500 if you consider getting it
@RUclips Official Upgrade only in the processor department beacuse A13 kills battery life on the se. Whereas, A11 runs better on an iPhone 8
Get se3 when it gets cheaper
Before watching the video, I'll guess the battery life will suck.
Using iPhone 7 for the last 5 years and it is still better, I mean it has started to show minor hiccups, and battery health dropped to 72% but I can safely say, nothing alarming yet.
I managed to grab one of these for £90 in almost perfect condition and 86% battery health. I've been impressed so far. very solid phone.
Good decision broo I'm getting mine soon.
I own 2 iPhones.....a 13ProMax and a Red iPhone8 Plus 256.... I Love them both dearly. Nice Review. 🍎
You should definitely do the 8+! I think if anything, that’s the best budget iPhone now.
The 8 is definitely the better option value wise
I have one and I agree, it has one extra Gb or ram, one extra camera lens and a bigger battery in a full hd display. But I wish it had a smaller footprint, operating with one hand is kinda difficult.
I agree. Bought the 8+ for one of my older relatives because she loves the Home button. When this eventually dies, it’s good to know there’s the iPhone SE (3rd Edition) for her.
@@Luchon20082010 it was last year but now not anymore. The SE 3 don’t sell well hence price drops. There won’t be an SE4 in the near future :(
I have an iPhone 8 I bought it a year ago (used).
Could it last a day ?
Yes for me it does last a whole day, charging it only once :)
Yeah even at 82% battery health like my phone lasts like 5/6h too! And the new feature even helps with battery.
I want to buy one is it worth it?
For backup phone yes for sure but as a driver I think their are better options than the 8 considering some phones got already a discounts
Never used an iPhone. Was just thinking about buying the iPhone 8 to start with. Great timing.
It's better to buy the SE 2 if you found it at a better cost
since they're both the same but the SE is better
I thought the same thing but the battery is too small lol
Get the 11 at least
U just can’t go wrong with this iPhone
I’ve got an iPhone 8 , actually I’m using it right now. It’s a really good phone, the only reason I’m going to upgrade is because it’s getting slow and (sometimes) it turns of on its self during FaceTime calls
Iphone 8, the forgotten phone that was completely overshadowed by the X that was issued the same year.
@@claymusic2205 Pretty sad, My main phone is a Samsung S20FE, but I also carry around a Samung A30s that I bought a few years ago, just in case.

iPhone 8 is a great phone I enjoyed mine.
I just bought a refurbished iPhone SE 2 for $199. For that price, it's a great value
Watching from my 8 plus and after three years it still rock 🔥 🔥
I do some of my own repairs, like screen replacements and battery replacements, but for more difficult work, I take it to a geek shop nearby. If you love your phone, it’s worth the money to fix it. iPhone 8 Plus is still going to be receiving updates for a while, so don’t give up if you love it!
@@melissat922 Late post, but perhaps buying a refurbished iPhone might be the way to go. Refurbished treads the line between used and new, and often you can get things so close to new that it can be really worth it. I was considering the 8 but the stuff I was missing out on with the 8 wasn't too bad considering the different price points

I’m surprised he mentions performance as a plus. I’m still rocking an iPhone 8. It’s not terribly slow, but it is significantly slower on iOS 15. 12 and 14 ran great on this phone, 15 slowed it down to a crawl in my experience

Didn't notice any slowdown from iOS 14 to 15.
Are you a normal user or power/gamer user?

Have you tried updating your battery? Updating a batter was just $50-$100.
I have an iPhone 8 and don’t have issues running Genshin Impact.
Bruhhhh! I still play high end mobile games like PUBGM.. My iPhone 8 Plus performs flawlessly even after 5 years! 😍..
1:15 - Am I the only one who likes symmetry? Honestly I won't mind a little bit of forehead and chin as long as symmetry is maintained.
I missed those aluminium body real bullet proof frm toddler..

why should you buy an iphone 8 2nd hand or refurbish when you can buy a brand new android phones with better specs at the same price.
I bought the iPhone 8 for $149, got a 3600 mah battery kit, and I’m happy. It lasts for all day now and I choose it as my daily driver over my 12
Sorry but I have to disagree.
"Modern" phone design has made most phones look kinda ugly and samey.
