"Ich lade gern mir Gaste ein... Chacun a son gout"
Christa Ludwig's earliest recording - already at age 22 her voice is immensely impressive, and she has an enormously confident interpretive style. A fascinating historical document.

I heard her as Octavian at SPAC in the mid 60s. When she opened that voice in louder passages, the voice was a warm, large, gorgeous sound that enveloped the entire center.

Ludwig's voice sounds so mature and well-developed at such a young age. She was a phenomenon no doubt.

jmiller05 it’s sort of ridiculous. Would she have sounded different a decade later?

Great moments of opera Just a testament to an indelible technique. I listened to one of her concerts from the early 90's the other day and the voice was still rock solid, no wobble, legato all intact. Obviously her timbre was more womanly, but relatively unchanged. Just incredible.

Thank you for this upload. Fascinating. Inexplicably, Ludwig recently came under vicious attack (from phony to much worse) in Parterre Box by one of their own self professed (and esteemed/respected, also inexplicably) "experts".

That chest voice in the "UN of Chacun" -- it's so FUNNY.The whole things is outrageous, but that's what it's supposed to be. What a huge range she had.
