Viduthalai got raving reviews since day one release and that's why he jumped on the bandwagon. Vetrimaran is back after 3 years and with soori and Vijay. This would have been a ideal choice for a true critic to choose substance. But he went for bhola and dasara. Well gues trp is the Rajeev masand of RUclips, all talk no substance. Very disappointed

Viduthalai is an hyper reality crime drama with stunning action sequences, choreography, screenplay grimacing actual events from the past . It instils the sense to revolt against the oppression and authorities ❤ in fact Part 1 is just the world building for part 2 ! Once again national awards for vetrimaaran sir ! Already 11 for his films and counting ❤❤❤

I saw Gaslight yesterday. Not only did the movie test the brightness levels of my phone but also my patience. Had a better actress been casted maybe the jump scares would have been impactful. The last good horror movie from Bollywood I had seen was Pari starring Anuska Sharma. She just aced her role.

In a way though Tumbbad would come under a subgenre of horror fiction (i.e., folk horror). But yes I agree that Tumbbad was simply phenomenal.
Vetrimaaran's movies have always been something out of the box be it vada chennai or asuran and also I am eager to see vaadivaasal starring surya I cannot wait for it🤩
Visaranai was the first vetrimaran's film I've seen. And it was amazing. Then looked up for asuran and vadachennai and after finished watching it, I became an official fan for him. And watched all of his movies. Till date, I'm fan only for him. Not even other Protoganists attracted me like that

It's more of sticking to our own nativity, culture and roots rather than socially responsible. Because many films such as jana gana mana , RRR, Razi were also socially responsible films.. but these tamil gems are very much rooted..

I think I've got a pretty interesting story, it's concept is unique and it hasn't been tried before, what I lack is resources, I'm the only earning person in my family, and with 12k salary(that's unable to cover all my expenses) i am pretty much struck here in Rajasthan.

Taapsee was great as a paraplegic in Game Over. She literally made us live her fear. The scene where she looks out of the window and a head is flung at her was a perfect jump scare moment
I screamed in the theatre at this scene... The buildup and then the jumpscare...oh my god... It was embarrassing as I was the only one who shouted and others around me started laughing 😅

I don't like the idea of worshipping a hero in a movie anymore, I used to do that when I was a teenager but now I just appreciate actors who brings life to a character, for example Vijay sethupathi, Fahad fasil, Madhavan and many more like them.

Chitrangada is a revelation in this. Her acting talent was ignored for 20 years and people limited her to item numbers and glam doll roles. N Sara's acting skills have become a mystery. She has gone downhill since Kedarnath, Atrangi was fine though.

Vetri merely acknowledged someone else's (parthiban's comment on dhanush's heriosm in asuran, in the tamil director's round table) dig at him still having to give in to the commercial formula to some extent to make a commercially succesful film like asuran. he was pretty happy with asuran over all despite the minor flaws. it was the writer/author of asuran's source novel who was super repelled by how vetri adapted his novel. in the novel, the character we're mostly focusing on and seeing the world of asuran through is the younger sibling, not the kid's father, Sivagaami, played by dhanush. Also, the novel overall is far more complex and nuanced than asuran but changes like these are to be expected when adapting something for cinema.

The problem with Sara Ali Khan is that she thinks that learning the script and dialogues should do it for her and that's all the hardwork that's needed ....even in her interviews I feel that she is a rote learner who has no sense of the real meaning of things but has simply learnt the definitions of them and it was quite visible that she has no connection with vikrant and Chitrangda during the interviews, she was unknowingly rude and arrogant towards them in the name of humour... there's a very big difference in knowing something and feeling something and then becoming the character...she knows the character but can't feel it and so she can't become it. Hardwork should be different for different professions and I think in acting it's less about reading and more about feeling.

The problem with star kids is that they don't try to learn the craft of acting. They get launched without knowing anything about acting and gets many opportunities one after another and they don't do anything to improve their acting skills. Many great actors has done theatre and learn acting skills from NSD.

I'm excited for Vetrimaaran's collaborations with Suriya and also with Vijay🔥🔥. I'm starting to think Vijay also is probably assessing the directors who can provide blockbuster, not only in terms of BO, but also with content, atleast that man is putting effort in really understanding his calibre.

Viduthalai - I don't think there is a movie that has recently kept me hooked throughout, one that is brutal, hard-hitting, and strictly not for the faint-hearted. It was an out and out Vetrimaaran show, and he is the only director in India who is not afraid to take on social themes. It was a truly gritty movie with outstanding performances from everyone, and Soori's performance was a standout. I never thought the man could be so damn good. 🔥🔥🔥
You will be surprised know but this is loosely based on real life incidents that occured in the name of capturing Veerappan. Vachathi case is one of many.
There was a time when if a nepokid is not impressing audience, they would disappear out of industry. But now they are forced down to us in Ensemble films & strong PR campaign
I liked sara's acting in Atrangi Re I wont lie but in gaslight she is horrible. I have watched Anushka Sharma in Pari and Tripti Dimri in Bulbul and They both nailed the role in this horror genre I must say.

They might be good as glamorous actors for advertisements and stuff, but when it comes to acting as an art, they really need a reality check. I am sorry for being rude but I really don't understand why people praise Janvi and Sara so much. From day 1 I never saw anything note worthy in them. They r same league as Arjun Kapoor. The media coverage around them reminds me of how modern art is basically white canvas yet getting sold for billions, thanks to overly exaggerated fancy jargon the painter/agent use.
Saw Viduthalai it was a great experience for film with no over the top story telling, acting and limited songs. There's only 2 songs that never dragged the story and it fitted well with the characters emotions, bgm was outstanding and very precise plot. This is one of those rare 2 part movies or trilogy that I look forward to, the last movie that got me excited in terms of continuity of the story and characters journey was Lord of the Rings. Cannot wait for part 2, worth the time and money. First movie this year I watched in theater👌

Finally someone resonated my opinion of Sara's acting 😢 all the good reviews about her acting were making me loose faith in Bollywood 😂 honestly I'm a fan of her and always thought people troll her for absolutely no reason but for the first , after watching gaslight I finally understand what the people are talking about😢 I mean for God sakes who gasps like that upon seeing their fathers dead body or her reaction when rukmani is shot was simply hilarious.I couldn't connect with meesha because of her awful acting in screaming scenes
You could say that all that extra personality on those interviews was a calculated move because she knew her limitations on screen. But..doesn’t even matter, just because who she was born to..she will keep getting projects 🤷♂️

Directors here in Tamilnadu too tried the same horror+comedy genre from early 2010's but people started hating it and that genre completely disappeared now. Only few movies are gonna come out like chandramukhi 2. But we will make it flop

I guess Vetrimaaran is a great example of a director who can give a great masterpiece even with actors with no stardom. There were lot of comments on him saying he makes movies only with Dhanush to get success. Now all those who made such comments would be speechless. The best part is they don't show the lead Soori as some superhero. He is just a common man with morals and good intentions. My personal favorites are the lengthy single shot sequence and Soori in the climax sequences.
I think we need a proper Horror franchise without lusting heroines and adding comedy elements. Just pure horror films and big actors must enter this genre which is left untapped yet.

Hollywood is barely managing to make actual scary films (independent films are fairing slightly better) you guys don't have a hope in hell. A lot of the best horror films have comedic elements to them and hot babes in horror films are a staple of the genre. Bollywood already tried big names in their horror films, did it work back then? It's so depressing that talented outsiders like Tripti Dimri do not get movies even after giving hits, and have to wait long years to get a good role, while untalented nepokids like Sara get movie after movie after movie even after delivering terrible performances. She clearly has zero acting skills, her expressions are terrible and yet she gets big roles in big movies easily. Why do directors cast her and ruin their movies? I don't understand.
in gaslight they could have achieved so much more with proper writing of characters , vikrant's character's motives were so haphazardly displayed at the end that it wasn't convincing , the gun backfiring was so predictable that everybody saw it and didnt even make sense, why would she not shoot him straight away and wait for him to snatch the gun and then shoot ?
The sad part about vetrimaran movies is that his movies don't have parallel Telugu dubbing releases but still make us watch Tamil directly 2-3 times to fully get it. A worthy director tho 🙏

watched gaslight today and all I can say was everything was great other than sara. I am no hater but at the movements like when she was followed or when she discovers something an inner voice in me begged her to scream or even to give some reaction but no, hell the girl can't even cry, they just change the screen and when they come back to her again it's like she magically has tear stain face, no change in voice(to make it feel like she was crying or change in emotion ) just nothing. Somewhere I was angry at her for spoiling my experience for this movie because all other characters killed their part even the mad women in black did 1000 times better acting then her. I believe she is the new Arjun Kapoor.
Bollywood should install a film school which gives certificates of acting to people who want to work with big producers and distributors. Then these filth will get filtered out. I know that corruption will take over that institution as well then, but atleast for time being
Viduthalai needs to be celebrated .. not just spoken amongst our circles. If there is any movie that is as hard hitting and rooted in reality and tugs at your conscience it has to be this one. Vetri is the only director to have given blockbusters with every movie over a span of 16 years No other director has that record. He has managed to stay relevant even after all those years. He is a national treasure.

I can so relate to this. I have not watched the movie on TV. I watched it on my phone and throughout the entire movie I had my brightness level at the maximum. Many a times I even had to go back to see what the scene was all about because I could not see anything.
Loved the underrated hero in Viduthalai. Absolutely loved the beautiful and realistic setting in the mountains and amazing camerawork. The movie didn't hold back any thing while showing that reality can be far more cruel than fiction. Goosebumps. Also, the movie doesn't follow the usual hero-villain story which I personally loved. The lead actress also looks astonishing in her character and totally real. Not always you want to watch actresses just as an eye candy.
Instead of Sara, Ananya, Jhanvi they should try with Tripti Dimitri, Shivaleeka Oberoi, Alaya, Tara, Shreya choudhry. They all will do ten times better
The film Viduthalai is actually based on short story written by Author Jayamohan who wrote the story based on true events happened in 1980s in Vatsaathi village, Dharmapuri district of Tamilnadu. The entire village was ransacked by a team of Forest officers, Police, Revenue officials. They beat up all men in the village and raped women. 100+ Govt people were convicted. The sad part is that only less than 20 got jail sentence. Rest were freed. VJS character is also lived in real life. (I forgot his name). The case finally finished in 2010s. RIP those who were died in the clash.
I fucking loved how this director fooled me when I wanted to expect something like Pushpa or Asuran & prepared for ghore and sentiments.. and I am overwhelmed with what he did to me 😢😢😮😮😮 wonderful movie😍
Viduthalai run time was 2 hrs 30 mins but still it looks very short for me. Even if it's 3 hrs long I will never look out of the screen that's how the movie was. Stunned!!!

Visaranai was India's official entry to the Oscars. Asuran won best actor.
Imagine Sara being mean to Vikrant in a recent promotional interview for Gaslight..You could clearly see how rude Sara was to Vikrant and he had to say sorry to her for something..the discomfort & the silence in the interview was really bad..And most importantly Sara has the audacity to throw such tantrums to a wonderful skilled co actor to whom her acting skills are not even comparable.. sadly if you have a bollywood backing everything wrong is portrayed as right..
This movie really tested my patience like no other...why was there no electricity in that palace or any where for that matter......we were forced to see long long long stretches of black frames/TV screen ....actually because of this I was forced to notice the accumulated dust on either side of my TV....so got up dusted the entire TV unit....are they taking OTT watchers for granted now? Sara was such a disappointment

Gaslight apart from the acting is just such a pain to watch because of how dark the whole set up is! It is especially confusing because as a horror movie you want to engage your audience completely so they can be shocked with any or all revelations and twists. But this movie couldn’t engage because of a mere technicality. How can you when you can barely see anything?!
Sara is in no ways a good actress, but one good thing about her that makes her (slightly) better than Janvi is that she doesn't do remakes after remakes.

Anmol, I would highly suggest you checkout vettrimaran's every interview if possible(offcourse with subtitles). Once you start watching his interviews then there is no going back. Not just as a movie fan but also lot to learn and grow as a person, consieve things in a better perspective will be the major take away from his interview. On behalf of all the Vetrimaran's fans I can say with confidence we are not only following and anticipated for his movies but to his interviews as well!
When ott boom started in India I thought now not so popular talented actors will be able to lead a movie But actually it is giving more benefits to the case of ananya sara and janhvi they are easily getting projects to lead cos the recovery through ott is easy. Hence opportunities are even more of them now
Not only that but OTT was an opportunity for other actors who weren’t getting good roles in movies but now mainstream stars are fighting for the good OTT roles as well

I saw Gaslight yesterday. Not only did the movie test the brightness levels of my phone but also my patience. Had a better actress been casted maybe the jump scares would have been impactful. The last good horror movie from Bollywood I had seen was Pari starring Anuska Sharma. She just aced her role.

Vetri merely acknowledged someone else's (parthiban's comment on dhanush's heriosm in asuran, in the tamil director's round table) dig at him still having to give in to the commercial formula to some extent to make a commercially succesful film like asuran. he was pretty happy with asuran over all despite the minor flaws.
it was the writer/author of asuran's source novel who was super repelled by how vetri adapted his novel. in the novel, the character we're mostly focusing on and seeing the world of asuran through is the younger sibling, not the kid's father, Sivagaami, played by dhanush. Also, the novel overall is far more complex and nuanced than asuran but changes like these are to be expected when adapting something for cinema.

The problem with Sara Ali Khan is that she thinks that learning the script and dialogues should do it for her and that's all the hardwork that's needed ....even in her interviews I feel that she is a rote learner who has no sense of the real meaning of things but has simply learnt the definitions of them and it was quite visible that she has no connection with vikrant and Chitrangda during the interviews, she was unknowingly rude and arrogant towards them in the name of humour... there's a very big difference in knowing something and feeling something and then becoming the character...she knows the character but can't feel it and so she can't become it. Hardwork should be different for different professions and I think in acting it's less about reading and more about feeling.

Viduthalai - I don't think there is a movie that has recently kept me hooked throughout, one that is brutal, hard-hitting, and strictly not for the faint-hearted. It was an out and out Vetrimaaran show, and he is the only director in India who is not afraid to take on social themes. It was a truly gritty movie with outstanding performances from everyone, and Soori's performance was a standout. I never thought the man could be so damn good. 🔥🔥🔥

Saw Viduthalai it was a great experience for film with no over the top story telling, acting and limited songs. There's only 2 songs that never dragged the story and it fitted well with the characters emotions, bgm was outstanding and very precise plot. This is one of those rare 2 part movies or trilogy that I look forward to, the last movie that got me excited in terms of continuity of the story and characters journey was Lord of the Rings. Cannot wait for part 2, worth the time and money. First movie this year I watched in theater👌

I guess Vetrimaaran is a great example of a director who can give a great masterpiece even with actors with no stardom. There were lot of comments on him saying he makes movies only with Dhanush to get success. Now all those who made such comments would be speechless. The best part is they don't show the lead Soori as some superhero. He is just a common man with morals and good intentions. My personal favorites are the lengthy single shot sequence and Soori in the climax sequences.

It's so depressing that talented outsiders like Tripti Dimri do not get movies even after giving hits, and have to wait long years to get a good role, while untalented nepokids like Sara get movie after movie after movie even after delivering terrible performances. She clearly has zero acting skills, her expressions are terrible and yet she gets big roles in big movies easily. Why do directors cast her and ruin their movies? I don't understand.
in gaslight they could have achieved so much more with proper writing of characters , vikrant's character's motives were so haphazardly displayed at the end that it wasn't convincing , the gun backfiring was so predictable that everybody saw it and didnt even make sense, why would she not shoot him straight away and wait for him to snatch the gun and then shoot ?

I am gonna be honest there were frames in this movie where I could see my reflection in the TV but could not see what was happening.
I can so relate to this. I have not watched the movie on TV. I watched it on my phone and throughout the entire movie I had my brightness level at the maximum. Many a times I even had to go back to see what the scene was all about because I could not see anything.

Loved the underrated hero in Viduthalai. Absolutely loved the beautiful and realistic setting in the mountains and amazing camerawork. The movie didn't hold back any thing while showing that reality can be far more cruel than fiction. Goosebumps. Also, the movie doesn't follow the usual hero-villain story which I personally loved. The lead actress also looks astonishing in her character and totally real. Not always you want to watch actresses just as an eye candy.
Sara is such a poor actress she cannot act at all . She ruins good screenplays and also ruins efforts of other actors.
Instead of Sara, Ananya, Jhanvi they should try with Tripti Dimitri, Shivaleeka Oberoi, Alaya, Tara, Shreya choudhry. They all will do ten times better
The film Viduthalai is actually based on short story written by Author Jayamohan who wrote the story based on true events happened in 1980s in Vatsaathi village, Dharmapuri district of Tamilnadu. The entire village was ransacked by a team of Forest officers, Police, Revenue officials. They beat up all men in the village and raped women. 100+ Govt people were convicted. The sad part is that only less than 20 got jail sentence. Rest were freed.
VJS character is also lived in real life. (I forgot his name).
The case finally finished in 2010s.

I fucking loved how this director fooled me when I wanted to expect something like Pushpa or Asuran & prepared for ghore and sentiments.. and I am overwhelmed with what he did to me 😢😢😮😮😮 wonderful movie😍
Viduthalai run time was 2 hrs 30 mins but still it looks very short for me. Even if it's 3 hrs long I will never look out of the screen that's how the movie was. Stunned!!!

M not star kids hater but can't you see they don't value chances provided to them so easily on platter whereas outsiders have to literally sturggle to get a new project.
Tiger should stick to action flicks. He has the potential to pull off fast paced Hong Kong style action. He doesn't have the acting chops for romance and drama.

Made the request considering the frequency with which he makes videos and Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam movies are always merged in one video in spite of him having abundant love for movies irrespective of the language. If Cirkus, Love Aaj Kal 2, the legend had a separate video, Viduthalai deserves too.

Imagine Sara being mean to Vikrant in a recent promotional interview for Gaslight..You could clearly see how rude Sara was to Vikrant and he had to say sorry to her for something..the discomfort & the silence in the interview was really bad..And most importantly Sara has the audacity to throw such tantrums to a wonderful skilled co actor to whom her acting skills are not even comparable.. sadly if you have a bollywood backing everything wrong is portrayed as right..
This movie really tested my patience like no other...why was there no electricity in that palace or any where for that matter......we were forced to see long long long stretches of black frames/TV screen ....actually because of this I was forced to notice the accumulated dust on either side of my TV....so got up dusted the entire TV unit....are they taking OTT watchers for granted now?

People need to stop celebrating mediocrity in the industry, when u do so, the craft becomes stagnant. Bollywood and its movies and specially the actors have been in that position..specifically the starkids, Ananya, Sara, Jahnvi..like where is the talent other than a pretty a face and body, which was achieved by surgery. I know it is harsh..but if u want the industry to become better..gotta change things.

Gaslight bore the hell out of me. 20 mins into the movie I could decode the plot and who was the culprit.

Gaslight apart from the acting is just such a pain to watch because of how dark the whole set up is! It is especially confusing because as a horror movie you want to engage your audience completely so they can be shocked with any or all revelations and twists. But this movie couldn’t engage because of a mere technicality. How can you when you can barely see anything?!

Sara is in no ways a good actress, but one good thing about her that makes her (slightly) better than Janvi is that she doesn't do remakes after remakes.
Janvi is more loved by movie buffs who likes to watch good content rather than sara who is loved by masses.

Anmol, I would highly suggest you checkout vettrimaran's every interview if possible(offcourse with subtitles). Once you start watching his interviews then there is no going back. Not just as a movie fan but also lot to learn and grow as a person, consieve things in a better perspective will be the major take away from his interview. When ott boom started in India I thought now not so popular talented actors will be able to lead a movie
But actually it is giving more benefits to the case of ananya sara and janhvi they are easily getting projects to lead cos the recovery through ott is easy. Hence opportunities are even more of them now
Not only that but OTT was an opportunity for other actors who weren’t getting good roles in movies but now mainstream stars are fighting for the good OTT roles as well
Only if Sara had some decent potential she could have taken Bollywood by storm. She just don't have it in her to be an actor.
