You made my day! I have an 08 lacrosse that has the remote start button on the remote, but it never worked. I figured it was just not actually equipped, and the remote just had the button for other models that did have the option.
After watching your video, I explored the settings to find out remote start was just turned off. I turned it on and it works like a charm.
Who knew? I don't even think the previous owners knew the remote start was equipped on the car. Lol.

In 2020 this video is still a GEM! Thanks for making the obvious not so obvious to the commoner. I took two Key FOB's that I purchased off amazon to the Batteries Plus store. They were able to program the fobs, but the remote start would not work. I understand NOW why, but I was fine with being able to do everything else. Once I got in, the check engine light was on and has never been on since I purchased the vehicle. I couldn't understand how it was on, but believe it has to do with the tech not know how to do auto-start on my vehicle. I got home and did youtube search and this was the top video. I followed your instructions to clear the CEL and was able to remote start without issue!

I have a 2011, it randomly chooses when the he remote start will work. When it doesn’t, I lock the doors, hold the remote start button, the lights flash, for a split second, not even half a second you can hear the car crank then shut down. Then when I get in and put the key in the ignition to start it, it won’t even crank, it just clicks as if the battery isn’t connected. After 10 mins and constantly cycling of the key, it will start. Please help

You would need to see if the remotes are properly working first. Some shops, locksmiths or alarm stores have a tool for that. Then you would need a bidirectional tool to confirm that the vehicle is receiving the request form the fob.

Same logic then. Three remote starts and then you have to actually start the car with the key. It's a safety feature really. First, in case there's a short in the remote that remotes starts the car unknowingly. Second, too much idling is bad for the car. So definitely drive it after 3 remote starts. Hope this helps. If there's an actual problem, you will need to bring the vehicle to a technician that has a bi-directional scan tool and knows how to use it. If it's just a matter of a remote start that cancels after 3 tries, now you know why. Hope that answers your question. Let me know. All the best

In a case like this, where the "no start" is strictly a remote start issue, its caused by remote starting it 3 times without ever actually starting the car with the key. Its a protection in case the remote is stuck or if you're sitting on it, so the car doesn't endlessly cycle. Remote start 3x, then you actually have to get in the car and start it.

@SAAutoRepair why would the old man take it to you if it's starting? Obviously there's an issue. My daughter's car same thing sometimes it'll start and sometimes it won't. There's a reason sometimes it won't and it's usually something intermittent. I used to deal with this crap when I worked for GM and hated it stupid bugs or lose connections that take a ton of time to figure out and you need to fight to get payed for your time. That's why when you take your car into a dealer any dealer with an intermittent issue they never seen to be able to fix it they didn't want to deal with it.

The true "waste of time" was that, instead of just moving along, you spent more valuable time leaving a negative response. I didn't realize I was making content just for you. Next time I'll check with you first before I release the video. On the bright side, you brought the algorithms back on an old video. Not a total waste. Thanks for stopping by.

I mean it would’ve been easier if you just said you didn’t have the brain capacity to understand the video. That’s why it wasn’t useful to you.

My 2011 does this but when I get in the car and use the normal ignition, it doesn’t even crank. I have to cycle the key in the ignition a few times and then it’s back to normal

Amp draw tests with a scope. Split circuit and isolate. There's no easy way to troubleshoot from here. Sorry
