- Our Nissan S15 with a Toyota 3SGE powered engine swap is being worked on at Group D in Cork and we have hit some speedbumps along the way. As with all projects, this started as a simple swap, but now has escalated into one crazy S15 with a unique 3SGE engine conversion. Add some crazy parts and you have something that will surely stand out at a show...

When you were asking what the viewers wanted in one of your previous videos.... This type of video is bang on !! the right mix of humour and interesting content 👌 keep up the videos 🍻
Boom
@@driftgames_life yep and we like when Darren speaks details and technical so tell he we do understand and are interested and he dosent need to brush over anything 👌💯🤙
Agreed 💪
Got it 👍
Word on the street is this video is out of date already. Darren has moved the goal posts yet again 😂😂😂🙌🏼🙌🏼
No no goals still in place 😂
Yesss, we love some good s-chassis content! Super excited to watch this build come together
Savage talent in Ireland for car builds and class to keep up with all, deadly lads 👍
Excellent video thanks
What a car collection, that 86 is pure magic 😍
Darren absolutely kills me. That engine/turbo package looks absolutely mental too, can't wait to see that S15 finished and out on the town in another midnight run vid.
Hopefully within the next 2 months! 😬
Pressure is on 😬😬😬
Sweet baby Jesus that starlet😍😍😍
Will a detailed list of what is needed to turbo a 3sge be available? The MR2 Community would be interested in this.
We will be able to supply all the parts to make it happen
@Group-D nice one lads👍👍have one in the shed with the head removed waiting 🤙
@@niallreynolds9376 Please email us and we will be able to supply you the parts needed
Videos are getting better and better
Great video guys
That’s would be my dream garage right now that starlet and the twin cam two beauts fair play boys the one channel I can’t wait for the uploads 👌🏽
Really great video boys, love the build on the s15, something totally different is so refreshing to see, can't wait to see the finished result, keep on spending dave lol 👍
Great episode. Dont totally understand engines but tht man darren made sense to me, with a wee bit of info from urself.
Glad to hear
love the odd ball engine build.... cant wait to see the results
As a VW guy it’s so funny watching JDM guys be surprised when parts fit each other, when in the VW world you can build a 4 cylinder with parts from engines that span 4 decades and you can just expect everything to fit, and it does
Darren should be on more videos, just for the comic value alone 😂
Totally agree😮
Can't wait to see this turbo in action... I actually was looking at a similar one for my 2.1 stroker in my Audi. Just way too expensive to not see how it runs lol. Ty for being the test
Dave's right, the reality of swapping stuff is very different from the idea of swapping stuff. Cool stuff tho.
I feel this is basically Dave's personality in 1 sentence "it gets out of hand"🤣🤣🤣luckily in a good way and sadly in a expensive way too🤣🤣🤣
Love this project 🤘
S15 plans are getting exciting 🔥
You are 100 percent right, in about 10-15 years the 350z is going to be crazy priced just like the ae86 and 240sx/silvias are now. Any car that works great and people destroy becomes what everyone wants when they get older.
Brilliant video once again, only need to comment for the algorithm, can't wait to see Darren's 3s-ge+t come on song on the dyno.
i cant wait to see this done !!!
Been my top of the list for years DMac has. This will work out no doubt, just be patient and he makes something like that Audi or s chassis he torments people with on track. Great video gents.
Thank you very much
Very underrated engine
Nice one lads 🤜🤛
Great video. But that turbo looks sexy for a street car.
Can’t be too sexy
i love the interactions
Love the new turbo
p.s, i dont understand how you dont have 1million+ subs, this is the best most honest content out there! i found you cats by watching jimmy o and adam lz, so come on boyz throw them a bone!
The s15 is definitely in safe hands when D-MAC has it and is kitted it out 👌
Thank you
Definitely nice to start with a clean core s15
Good video
The s15 will come together nice. It’s the waiting that sucks
Ask Darren what's his opinion on what power the Altezza/is200 gearbox will take ?
In a street car prob 350 all day would be totally fine. Not in a drift car though
No fear of Dave and Josh helping Adrian push the engine into the van 😂 look forward to seen this finished 👌👌
We saw the man on a mission 😆
@@driftgames_life 🤣🤣💪💪
Fun fact the Altezza box and the S15 box are both the Aisin AZ6.
It’s mad how it’s all like that
And mx5 and rx8 and gt86. Only one rwd box left anymore it seems
Darren has single handedly just risen the price of every single mr2 N/A engine 🤣🤣
Should be ok for a good while plenty out these
This Strawberry is going to be lethal.
Gorgeous RX-7 😍
Great video! Jesus Darren is some man, is he available for hire? I could listen to him all day!
I guess I'm available for hire... I will be putting a lot of effort into our Group-D channel this year so hopefully you will subscribe
@@Group-D done! 😉
Would be so much better if u went with a forged 3sgte making 400-500 bhp. When u the GE engine let's go I have a good spec forged 3sgte for sale ☺️
Love the content lads, I have an Renault 5 GT Turbo phase 2 1991 one of the last to leave the factory sitting in my mums driveway fully reconditioned if you wanted to do a video on it, It needs a run lol, I live in Oz and my mums afraid of it, Let me know, I’m looking forward to the new location and upcoming content.
Love those things!
Yeah shes a little beast I was home last summer a couple of times and got a good few spins in her, I got a few extra’s added to the engine a few shiny things and an updated turbo she’s quick.
how about a 4AGE 16v carbed for the gt 86 build?
They need to do a sound off with Jimmy's 86
You work so hard to find and come up with ideas to get viewer numbers up and I think the answer lays with Darren and group d alone. He could match mcm with car build viewers
Very nice of you to say. Thank you
I’m gonna keep this car for years… - Dave Egan - 2023
Biggest lie I’ve heard this year 😂😂😂
Keep at it DG, love the content. ❤
Hey haven’t sold one in months 😂
Class
So the 4 cylinder engine that toyota put in the Supra for Japanese touring cars was that engine so the block would be strong af 💪 👌🤙💯
That’s our thinking
I think it was based on the 3sge but didn’t share much parts it was also known as a different engine code. I would imagine it shared bore and stroke maybe valve angle homologation stuff probably
Adrian Corolla, exactly how I would want
Same gear box bell housing in 1992 toyota hilux petrol
when is the drift masters video coming out
This week!
Well there was a master class in combustion engines and turbos from group D 😧🥴
Just a teaser
In fairness, if D-Mac is cooking up some of his crazy ideas, it's best to just go with it. You just know the end result will be awesome 😎
Thank you 🙏
I hope you guys show this engine swap when it is completed. Curious to see how that 6-speed Beams transmission performs with that 2nd Gen 3SGE. Normally when S-series Toyota engines are converted to RWD a different transmission and bell housing are utilized.
Gearbox will work fine it bolts straight on....
@@Group-D I am interested to see how much of a tilt the engine will have when it is mounted in the S15 with the BEAMS transmission. I am also thinking of doing a RWD conversion with a 3S and I still trying to gather info on what transmission to use. I am no expert with the internals of the 3S engine but from what I have heard and I think you mentioned it also, the tilt of the engine is to allow for oil drain from the head back into the block. I use to have a JDM 3SGTE swapped 1990 Celica FWD and I had to rebuild it because of the piston rings being bad. I remember taking the block apart and when I took all the parts to the engine rebuilder he was also amazed how beefy the rods were.
@@Keoni90gts Off the top of my head i think we have it at 3 degrees but i would have to check again. Obviously you cant mount it at too much of an angle as the gearbox is supposed to be mounted level. One downfall would be if you keep doing donuts clockwise or anti clockwise which ever it is and the oil cant return to the sump but in normal driving conditions i think its going to be just fine
@@Group-D thank you for the info. Hope to see that 3sge-t making some good horsepower soon!
Hey guys u know the link is not working for subscriptions
That is definitely a mint fd
About Treefiddy Z
That bit bout why would anyone drive a car when you can tear it apart to work on it. Yup that sums up all my cars atm LOL
10:1 comp isn't that high these days for a turbo I'm running that on my sr20ve with an efr7670 unless a 3sgte is different ?
On pump fuel i would like to keep it lower than that. Sticking around the stock SR/JZ comp ratio is the right choice in my opinion
A Volvo 5 cylinder would of been a sick swap
How many engines does the MX5 need? 😂😂 Don’t let josh put it in this time 😂😂
I want that turbo for my gti :D
Hard to get but external wastegate units are in stock at the moment
Someone from Garrett sponsor this build!!
I still wish the 13b had gone in this hahaha. Interested to see how this turns out
13B is such a horrible fit in a RHD i only ever liked doing them when we dry sumped them and then that is a lot of cost
@@Group-D in a rhd s chassis?
@@jordanphillips8642 Yes having exhaust and intake on the steering column side makes it just not a nice situation it gets a little crowded
I did a 3sge beams in a schassis in a 2015 and was in a lonestar video in 2016 i believe 😂 they fit horribly
@@Don_Johnson521 ruclips.net/video/T93dY8BUlLs/видео.html
@@Don_Johnson521 link to my shitty build series 😂
ruclips.net/p/PLQ6N03ohI67oPXym9C-QPYK-obSfJhrTh
The beams is a much bulkier engine that the original 3sge. Just like all modern engines the redesigned and bolted a load of shit onto them
@@Group-D true, i made it fit wasn’t fun, most of the issue was the oil pan, i see you guys using the celica oil pan, good choice but the engine needs to be angled vs the beams, it’s a great engine, but i’ve moved on to the 4g63 instead, much better platform imo, just no rwd transmission options, btw look up circlip mod for j160 if you guys want to make more than 400whp on that beams trans
@@TalkTime4 The celica sump can be used with the engine upright no problem. 4g63 seem like a good engine yes but ya no rwd transmission available is a pain. 400wheel is a lot 😬
100% the 350z are beaters now, but give it a few years. And between rust and the disposable ness of them now will mean they start to go up in price again. Would you say that turbo is very impressive or very "compressive"? 😅
Ahh we get you 😉 😂
Is Group-D going to be selling this as a swap kit for s chassis in the future or is it all just a one off?
That’s the idea yes
Yes we can already supply everything really
just so you know.. the 3sge/gte is the 4 banga version of the 2j, and cheap asf in nz!
Yep 86x86
bigger exhaust housing and higher comp would of been my choice.
I see where you are coming from. Normally we would keep around a .68 housing on a 2 liter but i think for a street car that will live in the mid range this will be a great setup. Yes there will be some back pressure at high rpm but its a good trade off i think as i would pick low down response every time. 8.5:1 is the right comp ratio too in my opinion it is the stock ratio on SR/2J etc. On pump fuel with conservative timing we will make our 300hp without causing too much cylinder pressure. My job here is to deliver a reliable car to the customer, i want this setup to last and remember its a used bottom end and NA pistons
@@Group-D Yeah that's fair enough pump fuel in aus is 98 octane and fairly consistent I'm not sure what you guy have over there so it's safe road to go down. Does the 3sge have vvti? The sr20's vct makes a massive difference compared to compression. We ditched vct due to noise and increased to 9.0:1 comp and it still felt only slightly better than stock comp and defiantly worst without vct.
@@s15melb We have 95oct pump fuel. No vvti on the early 3sge so its nice and simple. No vvt on a S13 sr20 either so results will be similar to those
love to know how much a build like this costing ???
❤❤❤
please hand the camera to josh...
Brilliant content, especially the input from Darren. Will the Altezza gearbox be up to the job?
Thank you. At 300hp in a street car it will be fine unless Dave drives like a donkey...
I would so so so love to get a passenger spin in an s15 as it’s my dream car but I would wet myself I just would and it would also make me depressed because I will never afford one
Maybe we can make it happen when it's done!
why didnt you just get the dash 3d printed in ireland instead of shipping it?
They made them already for a Link setup
We found a company doing a really nice setup already specifically for the link dash
Altezza is the new twin cam (IMO).. At least in Ireland.. They are what every young fella looks for for a rally w/e, Don't see enough 350/70's
The internet (at least this one bit of it) loves how you get around the pains or the end result of the pains when ya do go a bit left field.
It's not that we don't realize it's hard.. It's because it's hard that we want to see it..
Another great wee vid..
Lookin for the next :)
Only tax stops people buying the 350Z here, and the no back seats, but for power to weight they are so much better then an Altezza
@@driftgames_life my 350z is taxed up north for £360 a year. Crazy to think it would be over €1800 back home.
@@driftgames_life ohh im not saying they are better.. just that they are filling the gap left by the increasing prices.
What next a 4age in a honda ? 🤔
Yo, First to comment!
Garret just copied that turbo design from Borg Warner. its nothing new.
That’s true but they do offer it in more frame sizes and configurations
You're gonna buy that AE86 in the future aren't you
One can only dream 😴
See I get why Nissan hasnt done a new GTR. Their in a tight spot with the pennies and they just dropped the new z. Hopefully thay sells well and we can get a proper new GTR in a few years. All their base models have been crap the last 10 years. I cant remember seeing a new nissan other then jeeps on the road here for years.
So true man, and we can’t even buy the new Z!
@@driftgames_life such a shame considering how quicky the new GR86 sold out here and in the UK. Even if they only brought 20 here I would have thought they would have sold out but sa la vie
The only non-nissan engine you should be putting in a nissan chassis is a 2jz. soz not soz
Hey it’s basically 2/3rds of a 2j so not far off! 😂
@@leefarrell8734 true
Whats the latest, lads?
Algorithm
I just don't get these engine swaps. What was wrong with the original SR20 in it. Leave the Nissan with the Nissan, Toyota with Toyota, Mazda with the Mazda.
SR20’s are £9k. The engine in this was the non turbo one.
@@foamdataservices my own personal opinion. But swapping out engines from other cars is more hassle than what it's worth.
@@265justy Ya but would anyone watch or comment on a SR20DET going into a Silvia. This is a channel looking for views so pretty obvious to go something unique
: )
You don't have to worry about the oil drains - Toyota put the S motor in a few different RWD cars and they always had the oil drains on one side of the engine and no problems. You SHOULD have a flat sump and oil pickup though - the 3S-FE (same block, economy head) was put into lower trim Chasers (SX80, SX90) and it came with a flat bottom sump and oil pickup to match.
YOU CAN'T USE A 3S-GTE CLUTCH - the 3S-GTE has a larger clutch disc, you can't use it, and none of the FWD flywheels will match the Altezza bellhousing + starter motor. It has to be BEAMS flywheel and clutch like you've got there, although you can buy cheap BEAMS flywheels from the USA for anyone interested in doing this cheaper.
If I had a red ae86 I would have no choice but to name it Pabu 🟥 🐼
