Venessa Bayer is so good at playing regular people stuck in weird situations
When she was putting on her coat, hilarious.
BEST COMMENT ITS MADE MY LIFE
SOOOO TRUEEEE
Kasino80 please tellme, who is read head actress? Saw her on SNL but forgot where!!!
Isabelleee no i mean redhead lady who was in the filmmakers group on 2:45 not in the auditory. I know Bayer
The twist that Emily Blunt plays Emily Blunt in this sketch is kind of brilliant. lol
And this is why one shouldn't visit the comments section before watching the movie. Because there's always someone that feels the need to spoil it for everyone, as if the ones that did watch it need to be reminded of what they just watched.
Well, that's not exactly my fault, is it? Nobody forced you to read the comments before you watched the video. The comment section exists so people can discuss what happens in the video. By the way, the ship sinks, and Bruce Willis is a ghost.
Yeah, watching the clip first really spoils it for the comments. Oh, and Hamlet dies
As long as you don't tell me Rosebud was a sled.
When you realize her line in the movie was: It's me! 😂
As somebody studying to be a film maker, this skit is absolutely hilarious. It's actually really accurate to real life. 😂
lol I hear you, I've attended a film course in college and this reminds me of real art films X'D
And yet you hvnt found a btr major. Something still went over your head.....
That awkward moment when you insult film students but they still spell better than you.
C Conroy really dude? And what would be a “btr[sic] major” in your eyes?
@@mook_butt8037 Something "useful", like in a science field or finance. Do you want to know the real reason to go to Mars, C Conroy? It's not go get rocks, minerals, and sand...it's because we can do it...to say we achieved it...the beauty of doing it. Why is film studies useful? Because art is beautiful. The world doesn't just need biology and money.
This situation literally happened to me back in 2007 when I went to see Joachim Trier's film "Nouvelle donne" in a cinema in Paris (near the Montparnasse station). The whole crew was there (over a dozen people) and only 3 people in the audience. They came with bottles of Champagne and served us a glass. I seem to remember it was one of the actresses of the film who handed me a glass. So classy! And the film was good!
Oh my, what an experience! I love Joachim Trier
I used to own a big nightclub and people thought I was crazy to have an open mic on Tuesdays. But it was a success because every band that showed up would bring their family and friends plus themselves. We had our regular soundman so this was a chance for small bands to play on a big stage so it was very popular. There was no actual audience LOL but we had about 60 people!
This literally happened to me and my Mam at a short film festival. After the final film there was an awkward atmosphere then a guy with a camera blocked the exit and we were in there for another hour with a few others trying to think of questions to ask everyone at the front. Oh my days
I loved Emily’s smile after one of the cast members mentioned ‘The Office’
I was just waiting for someone to Shout “QUA” at the end of the film
Needed more ukulele and glockenspiel music in the film for it to truly capture that short film feel.
noisyturtle really? i got more of a kazoo type of feel
Don’t forget toy piano
And more cowbell.
Vanessa is killing it 😂😂❤
The 3’s were there as a clue left in by the director that this is actually the trilogy.
Vanessa Bayer is the best! She is jumping in for everyone
I think the Donald Trump and Spicer sketches have raised my bar too high for SNL.
Agree
What director?
Didn't he die like in July or something? So how was he supposed to direct anything from Season 42?
its old you dumbfuck
Finally, someone who knows my pain.
Tell me why I didn't even notice the giant 3's in the woods until it was mentioned in the skit and I rewatched the short film
This worked for me: watch the skit, chuckle (but not laugh), and put it aside for a month. Then watch it again. You will CRACK UP.
I just came from a friend's thesis and it was just like this!! I couldn't stop thinking about this sketch the 2 hours I was there!
This is actually a perfect illustration of how annoying it is when artists start speaking about their “art” ;-)
And yes - Vanessa is perfect here.
I love Emily Blunt such a babe
Ok but how did I also not notice all the 3’s??? 🤔🤦🏻♀️😂😂
I die laughing everytime they ask for the question HAHAHAHAHA
love how the cast has so much to say for 20 seconda of film
I would love to see Emily and John both be guests
I just realized the threes were trees 😂
I love how Adele’s new look ❤️❤️❤️
This has made me afraid to go to small film festivals.
2:42-2:57 the long haired dude in the back hahaha
This perfectly encapsulates short film Festivals
This skit made me chuckle like crazy.
And then that actress went on to play in the hit movie "Qua-yet Place". I guess that short film put things into motion and changed her life!
Also, it was directed by the guy from the American version of "The Office", so there's another connection to the British show.
Genius idea for a skit
Even tho its wildly exaggerated this sketch feels somehow really accurate.
This is sort of accurate, unfortunetely
Anyone who watched the most recent season of America’s Next top Model peep Khrystyana in the back @ 2:46
The girl with the neck tattoo rocks!
It took a whole army of filmmakers just to produce some "thing", whatever that was that lasted not even 30 seconds long?!?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Emily Blunt is so cute ♥♥♥
Can't stop laughing.
The lady asking the questions, I want to marry a woman like that, she's really attractive
I think there were a few number 2’s on the ground too. Probably bears did it.
Good movie, I ment Girl on a train.
Spot on. Hate these super intelligent self important films which supposed to have some hidden meaning, philosophy, and fine art in them
big respect for independent artists
Vanessa should have played that weird giggling poetry teacher she played in that Drake episode.
I got to every single one of my school’s student film festivals (they’re fun to go to!) and I’ve seen exact one film I liked. And it was not good.
It seems actors are capable of self-awareness.
This is what the High School Theatre Showcase kids grew up to be
Yes Excatly! Although somehow they now convinced Keenan to be a part of it.
Nah that's just european cinema; more precisely french.
YES , and still vibrant & gettin paid .
"Wowwww""
i just watched it!
I’m actually impressed by the fact that Venessa can come up with so many questions for this short film
Yeah, but what was that about the 3s in the woods? Did she confuse qua with some other movie?
Vanessa is always silently brilliant in her sketches. She definitely deserves more props. Like the female version of Kenan. ALWAYS solid.
I was super happy to see her in Brooklyn 99. Sad it was such a short time though.
@@AlanTuringWannabe I'm sure she'll get work one way or another. Maybe voice acting at the least, not that voice acting is unimportant or anything
Lies again? Come Singapore Special Moment
Yeah they should have kept her on as long as Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong
but why did you bring up Kenan like can't you complement a women without bringing a man "version" up ?
I love that Emily Blunt takes the time out of her busy schedule to not only star in a short film, but also to answer the questions of a reluctant audience member.
Emily Blunt also taking the time out of her busy schedule to laugh at comments about her answering question from a reluctant audience member about a short film she stared in.
What can't she do
so this was basically a whole sketch written around how can we plug her movie?
When she was the only one in the audience I was dead😂😂
You have to go to one of these film festivals in AA!
koolaid awesome i
Lol u saw that too? 😂
I wasn’t dead but yh it was funny
damn bro rest in peace
I graduated with a film studies degree and that was seriously laser sharp. Student films are truly 95% garbagio
Totally agree!
Well I mean... they’re student films
heh what's wrong with experimental art films about a mime using soviet montage, :)
Haha. Garbagio
@@Slesaint17 my senior year of high school I had to do a film with someone who wanted a really artsy film that had no purpose and no one understood. I wanted to do a funny ghost film that everybody laughed at.
*I loved this movie! Here is my fan theory about the film "qua".*
I believe It's about a woman who's daughter died at a young age and left her alone, but the memory of her daughter still haunts her. The evidence that supports this is the opening scene. Which has music similar to a lullaby, and shows the mother crying in the bathroom where her daughter drowned in the bathtub. Afterwhich, the film portrays the mother running through the forest of trees with the number 3. Which I presume is the age her daughter was when she died. The mothers feels so much guilt for her death that it becomes manifest. She sees herself as the murderer of her child. Or the "qua"- which means capacity of being. That is why she say's "It's me!' at the end of the film.
lol jk I'm bored asf.
That explains everything.
OK, now makes sense for me
Wolf Man Lyken great theory 👍
Wow this was such an intellectual view of the film!
Wolf Man Lyken Okay but that's actually pretty good
I'm pretty sure Kyle and Beck wrote this. They are incredible at capturing the real-life cringe of the amateur art world. It's equally hilarious and uncomfortable to watch.
I feel like this sketch was definitely inspired by real life experiences
I thought it was funny. not every skit is a gut buster. this was chuckle funny, and chuckling makes me feel good; )
I don't really find any of SNL's stuff 'funny'. It's usually entertaining but in my opinion it's way too reserved to be funny.
Fucking pusscake.
"gut buster"
kyle stewart I guess we know less about short film festivals.
I agree, and most pleasantly sasheer zamata was not in the skit. That affirmative action hire does not deserve to be on SNL. She is bush league and a terrible actor!!! Not funny. She was hired ONLY because of her black skin. This is the PC world we deal with today. SMH...no im not donald trump but i realize this post sounds like him hahah he is a jackass.
Emily Blunt looks like Sarah Paulson's younger sister.
Alejandro Islas Omg i was like is that Sarah Paulson?? Theyre twins!
I hate sarah Paulson, such an ugly hag.
JoeyTheNotSee You hate her because you don't think she's attractive?
I was thinking the SAME thing!
And adele
I teach a Film and Media course at a college...
Painfully accurate here.
I live in Ann Arbor and let me assure you, this sketch is 100% accurate.
Very accurate!
Moi aussi
Ive been to Ann Arbor, and I believe it.
"I'm from Ann Arbor, Michigan, maaan." - Ashly M. Roachclip
what's with SNL's crazy uploading schedule all of a sudden?
Chioma Ejimofo they are re uploading old sketches to fill in the gap for the new season.
Loose Screw Productions Ooh I see, thanks!
THEY GETTIN PAID BOYEE
nbc is hopping on that google ad sense money boi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chioma Ejimofo The directer died so they're uploading his pieces in his honor
How many people went back in video to see number 3's on the trees? :D
Still not seeing them.
i didn't even notice them at first
I saw them the first time.
Why do people keep mentioning 3s? I don't see them
Quick Edit when she is running in jungle، look at te trees. there are lots of boards on each trees with big 3 on te board
"Yes, you, putting on your, uh, coat and purse."
Haha! So awkward.
I'm going to be Blunt about it: Emily is a very attractive person.
so brave
Yes
really
Tru dat
Jim Halpert is a very lucky man.
This is true though, it takes so many people just to film stuff. This just exaggerates it.
I think it's more about how pretentious these artsy film-makers can be, and how random and arbitrary some of their artistic choices sometimes are.
assmane999 You think this is pretentious and artsy? What kind of "artist" sites Richard Linklater and Charlie Kauffman? If you really want to show off your artiness for the one lady who showed up, you have to site people like Jean-Luc Goddard or Federico Fellini, or Ingmar Bergman. I'm speaking as a film student currently so I know this phenomena better than most. Also, Madonna sited every single name I mentioned when promoting her directorial debut "Filth and Wisdom". And yes, Madonna really did direct 2 movies.
What a waste of a college degree. Theyre every bit as pretentious and artsy as they are made out to be! They all show up to the screening, outnumbering their own audience, and cant admit to themselves how ridiculous they look and unworthy of the price of admission their work is.
Tate - what are you doing with your life now?
@@cconroy1677 What's your major? Chemistry? Economics?
I was in that short film once. Literally almost shot for shot. Minus the 3s.
+James Peters the threes in the forest she's running in
+ alapina halera There aren't any threes though
Why do people keep mentioning 3s? I still don't see them
LOL!!!!!!!!1 Literally.
Quick Edit Hahaha you’re trolling right?
I feel like Kennan should’ve been in the audience with her. These are the theater kids that grew up.
I died at "What threes? I don't know what you're talking about"
2:44 Anyone else notice that blonde dude over doing it?
Falo Lol not until I read this. That's annoying
OMG yes that is so cringey
Aww man. He's likely to read this so I'll throw in something nice too. His hair is beautiful and he's a handsome chap.
I think it was intentional, to go with the cheesy nature of short films.
I did but I forgive him because, GOD is he GORGEOUS...
My favorite parts were when they passed the mics around. They got that down pat!
this skit was perfectly true and perfectly executed to anyone in and around film school...and funny. just shared with daughter to caution avoidance of same for her senior thesis....well except the starring role in a major motion picture at the end.
Having had a film at a festival with one person in the audience, this both hurt me deeply and made me laugh hysterically
What’s worse is that it might of been packed if the seats were available making your story far more tragic.
“the British office” joke, in case it went over anyone’s head, was a reference to Emily Blunt’s husband John Krasinski who played Jim in the American remake of The Office
Thank you
The American remake of the Office? Like the 3s in the woods, I have no idea what you are talking about.
As a former film student, I can attest to the complete accuracy of this skit😂😂😂
I've seen it in local theatre too. The audience is the writer-director enjoying the show.
I love Charlie Kaufman and Richard Linklater.
But what about Richard Linklater and Charlie Kaufman?
I prefer Richard Kaufman and Charlie Linklater, they're the original Charlie Kaufman and Richard Linklater imo 😛
3:28 that moment when you realise that the guy next to Emily Blunt had a mic all along.
Okay this was actually smart and funny. Way too accurate
If you go to film festivals, you get this skit..
tackyman2011 Along with other people who, y’know, possess a brain..
This is one of those "it's so true it's funny" bits. A little long, but painfully accurate.
This is just the class during discussion time.
It was a satirical short film, but Emily Blunt had my absolute attention. She's that good.
I feel weird about it .... and not sure why ... but I actually liked that short film "qua" at the beginning! I thought her running away from herself, and her realization of how she was so frightened by herself, was powerfully brilliant!!!
This sketch is a diamond in the rough.
Fun fact:
"Qua" (or Qui) is the italian word for "here"
I actually enjoyed this skit
Vanessa's facial expressions are hilarious.
Vanessa Bayer is awesome and her multi faceted comedy is hilarious!
In real life;
it is so funny how these question and answer sessions are set up as if these individuals act as if their short movie was the cinematic masterpiece that every human being should watch before they die.
I have actually sat in on a few question and answer sessions and it was hilarious how melodramatic these individuals were.
It's so accurate and so damn pretensious. Everyone thinks their short film is gonna change the world
hahahaahah vanessa just kills it
I know the punchline was Emily Blunt was playing herself and the joke was that it was 30 person cast for this terrible film but I mist say Vanessa really makes this sketch the sheer awkwardness she portrays is so funny I love her
Can't wait for the soundtrack!
I love how she is already seated before the next question.
The one time Ann Arbor gets mentioned in media and it's about short films. Somehow, I'm not surprised.
It's a send-up of the narcissistic "Look at ME!" thread that runs through most art.
4:25 me when people ask what I'm doing with my life.
I don't know about anyone else, but I find this freaking hilarious. I did not just chuckle, I screamed.
it reminded me of school group projects when only one person did the job and everyone got credit for it!
Qua should be nominated for Best Picture
*passing on the mic 6 times* .. “what 3s ?”
The way she said "Damn it!" 😂😂😂
Yo, this reminds me of a time I showed up for this real estate recruitment type event that provided information for individuals looking to get started in real estate. Turns out, I was the only one who showed up. Lol, so the entire presentation was for me alone, and I felt the pressure of having to ask questions when really I had none. This was pretty relatable!
This reminds me of when local indie film groups toured high schools around the country. We had to come up with questions on the spot for the directors just like this 🤣🤣 pain and suffering, and guilt because we never wanted the directors to feel bad
The writing in this sketch is simple, solid and genuinely funny - loving these new snl clips
