For upgrades on N54 motors I highly advise making sure that the belt and all the idler pulleys are replaced before upping the boost. I had the unfortunate experience of the tensioner spring failing and shredding the belt and my n54 motor played hungry hungry hippos with what was left. That meant dropping the sub frame and oil pan and piking out millions of black particles that used to be a belt. The infamous oil filter housing gasket a must and valve cover gasket. The N54 motor is strong and very reliable the plastic power steering pump pulley not so much, as well as all the other plastic. I would replace 100% of all the plastic. It is hard to think that the Germans would engineer such a powerful motor and wrap it in cheap plastic but it is. The last mod I would advise is a catch can set up if not you will be walnut blasting every 60k miles.

A K&N air filter on your stock intake and if your car has the oil cooler from factory then you'll be around 390 hp and 410 torque. When I saw the Dinan site pulled up I knew you were new to the platform lol way overpriced with little support. Same goes for COBB. MHD all day, or JB4 with an MHD backend flash. MHD also has multiple E85 maps avaliable. You will also want to upgrade your lpfp. If you intend to run full E85 you're going to want port injection as the hpfp won't keep up. PI will also eliminate the need for walnut blasting your intake valves clean. As for injectors you will want index 11 or 12. 12 being the newest. The valve cover is plastic and the pcv valve system in the cover is prone to clog and crack. I recommend a catch can with an aftermarket aluminum cover. Respect for the N54 coverage though. Thumbs up.
Great comments and thanks for the info. I have added the N54 to my channel and started to update things and plan to speed it up. Right now I run only map 1 on JB4 with blow off valve and updated charge pipe as well as VRSF intercooler and VRSF catless downpipes and muffler delete. Looking for more jam and looking at upgrading turbo but still debating single or twins. Not sure yet. I am pinning your comment thanks again for the info.
@@ECPP hey man, good modes, from my experience with N54 engines and based on your modes, you can do the following: 1- upgrade the inlets and outlets to 2 inch ones, you can find silicone from MMP 2- Cold air intake or twin cone filters 3- backend flash from MHD 4- map 2 on The JB4 5- Meth injection kit 6- 2 step colder spark plugs And you will be at around 500 hp and you will love how the car will drive Sure you might have some misfires, if so then either you have to install the index 12 injectors, or upgrade the coils to Bavarian or precision raceworks, or both (reccomended) And the on the same setup you can upgrade the twin turbos and can reach much higher power 600 to 700 with fuel system upgrade and custom tunes
@@ECPP best thing you can do for these cars is get everything you need to run e85. Fuel pump, injectors, charge pipe, intercooler, tuning, and of course those cats have to go. After you can run ethanol, the next stages are upgraded turbos/turbo, methanol, custom tunes, inlets/outlets, upgraded manifold, and upgraded coils. The thing about it though, is it's your car, and you do whatever you want to it, and that's what makes it yours. Those are just my suggestions. Since you're going jb4, you might as well do a backend flash, get the 2-step for it, and also the bluetooth module for it. Good luck at trying to hold that thing together while upgrading, that's the trick to it all lol.
Hi, I am about to buy a 2010 E90 325i. I saw your vid where you suggested the 328i as reliable but didn't mention much about 325i. This is the facelift model. I have had some BMW's before (E30,E36x2,E39). I am pretty concerned about too much electronics, turbos, screens, I-drive etc. The one I am looking at has very low mileage. I need auto transmission because we have one of the worst traffic in the world. It does have paddle shifts which I like (any concern there?). Also, I think it doesn't have the I-drive system I think nor any crazy screen. Do you think this is a good thing? I am not that into getting screens because they surely would outdate quickly like cell phones. PS: I still have my E39 528i from 1998 with revamped hella tail lights and Depo Angel eyes and works fine. Don't know how longer it is going to function before turning into a money pit. Still, very difficult to sell and comfortable car. I might be able to sell it for like 3k, and it has around 160k km. Notice here cars are for the most part 2x in USA in price so basically can't get anything decent for that money instead of well... some cash. Plus there isn't any collectionist scene, maybe just with M's. Should I sell or keep? I would really appreciate any advice. Keep up the nice vids.
Define stage 1.... Its all marketing wank to make you feel pro. Talk specs mods and setup instead of "stage 1,2,3,4" cause tuning shops class every stage different.
I love my 2009 e92 335i, but I wish mine wasn't a perfect example of a money pit, had mine for 5years now, and probably only got a year and a half of drive time, the rest of the time it's been at the BMW shop. It's still at the shop right now. I don't want to give up on it because I want my money's worth, especially that I bought it during the time a 335i costed around 20k. My wallet hates me for buying that car
At 400hp, you should find decent tires and maybe an intercooler upgrade. you'll annihilate practically every car in that power range and of course most cars on the road except cars heavily modded, which you shouldn't be doing to begin with. It's just everyday at the shop by then.
Amazing engines and love the performance. Just those crank hub issues that everyone is still learning about...not sure on reliability. Awesome either way

do a video on the n63tu, pureturbos have it at 800 wheel!
Just got an 2012 IS. Loving it.
Good cars
N54 forever, had NA M3's and M5 but love my 500hp Stage 2+ 335i better in every way, especially with my OS Giken LSD!
How much did your limited slip diff cost and was it anPItA to install ?
@@ECPP 2000 euro all worth it, including machining the welded differential to fit the LSD. Had a shop do it but not that difficult... OS Giken Superlock is the best diff for BMW.
N52 is also very very good engine!
More reliable than the n54
but much less fun, but if u want a reliable engine and car go for the Japanese cars like Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus
Great video can i do it with the X6?
Above how much horsepower should injectors be upgraded?
I went with the e89 z4 with the n54, I believe it's much lighter than a 355
Excellent choice, nice car
Well, it's not lighter than a 335i :D
@@JerainJezza it's much smaller, has to be lighter... I'll check the curb weight on both vehicles....ok z4 is lighter but not by much
@@raiderhutch Z4 is convertible that adds a lot of weight. I checked the empty weights, both 1500kg.
@@JerainJezza What are you smoking? that must be some good shit. Or you're just from Poland?
I love my 335i N54. It’s a beast!
Same here, awesome cars and a ton of fun. Have you seen my recent videos since I also bought an e92 manual 335 ?
I haven’t but I’ll be sure to check it out!
How much hp are you running currentlyand what exactly have you done/changed? and how much has it set you back?
@@ECPP hey man, good modes, from my experience with N54 engines and based on your modes, you can do the following:
1- upgrade the inlets and outlets to 2 inch ones, you can find silicone from MMP
2- Cold air intake or twin cone filters
3- backend flash from MHD
4- map 2 on The JB4
5- Meth injection kit
6- 2 step colder spark plugs
And you will be at around 500 hp and you will love how the car will drive
Sure you might have some misfires, if so then either you have to install the index 12 injectors, or upgrade the coils to Bavarian or precision raceworks, or both (reccomended)
And the on the same setup you can upgrade the twin turbos and can reach much higher power 600 to 700 with fuel system upgrade and custom tunes
Don’t forget about e85 mix, 30-50% mix depending on the stage you’re on. Gonna need an upgraded hpfp though. That would give you 30-60 more hp
Thanks for sharing
You mean LPFP
Intercooler does give you more power.colder air will give you denser air=more power.
Great video 👍 thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching
In my book on Technical data on my 2009 535i x drive it says 300/407 .1,400 -5,000 . Has more torque than the other models.
If you mention dinan and Cobb for power adders on an n54, your research is from years ago.
Naw, going Burger. Thanks for watching. What else would you suggest ?
Awesome car. Awesome video. Thanks.
Thanks a lot. Cheers.
@@ECPP i have e 530d e39 and its an awesome car. I bet the 335i it's a rocket 🚀
Hi broo I need best twin company in bmw and marcedes
Buy an N54 they said. It'll be fun they said.
Haha
F H I know in the US the E90 325i was only offered in 2006 pre LCI so I think Canada is the same way? This cars are getting up there in age over here.
@@Shamus71 I am not from Canada... and at least here, LCI 325 were indeed sold from late 2009 until 2012 when F30 came in.
@@СашаС-т4э Not in the USA. The N52 was sold as a 328 in the USA until it was replaced by the turbo I4 about 2012.
2009 lci 330d remapped, it's a great engine, powerful, refined and economical.
Can you tune the new 2019 X5 engine? And if you can where can you get it done?
Great vid!
Thanks a lot for checking it out. Do you drive an N54 car ?
@@ECPP Bought one last week. 2009 coupé with dsg tranmisson.

why didn't chose n54 for 135i or z4 ??
Upgrade injectors ? Never seen that options before
Low pressure fuel pump and injectors
Amazing video
Thanks a lot. Cheers
Your numbers are way too high. 406hp on stage1? Nah. More like ~370
Define stage 1.... Its all marketing wank to make you feel pro. Talk specs mods and setup instead of "stage 1,2,3,4" cause tuning shops class every stage different.

A stage 1 jb4 tune on a 335i adds 90 horsepower..
Kase Buttram coupled with the intake I could see about 100hp gained
I knew it was him by the hands being shown in the still.....
the only people watching this now are n54 owners tryna feel validated haha
I love my 2009 e92 335i, but I wish mine wasn't a perfect example of a money pit, had mine for 5years now, and probably only got a year and a half of drive time, the rest of the time it's been at the BMW shop. It's still at the shop right now. I don't want to give up on it because I want my money's worth, especially that I bought it during the time a 335i costed around 20k. My wallet hates me for buying that car
Only good thing about my car sitting for so long though is that the car still only has 40k miles on it 👍
True they can be money pits and I find most things on it are quite difficult to change and therefore it becomes pricey due to labour.
how much hp are you running currentlyand what exactly have you done/changed? and how much has it set you back?
Do not use water/methanol. Use a E30-E55 mix of E85.
I just picked one up! 2008 pre LCI e90. 6 speed. Definitely get the rwd and the sedan e90. The e92 is great but e90 for sure
E92 for life. The more you look at it the better it looks.
At 400hp, you should find decent tires and maybe an intercooler upgrade. you'll annihilate practically every car in that power range and of course most cars on the road except cars heavily modded, which you shouldn't be doing to begin with. It's just everyday at the shop by then.
True, these cars are quite quick for sure
@@ECPP how much hp are you running currentlyand what exactly have you done/changed? and how much has it set you back?
N54 owner here. If you were going to spend so much $$$ into mods, why didn't you just get the M3 in first place? Same money, better car.
True but basic tune gets you M3 land. Next level mods crush an M3 and thats where I am headed.
Why buy a slower car, you can buy a 335 for about 5 to 6 grand, a mhd tune, full bolt ons, m3 suspension and rear end you'll destroy m3 *anywhere*
E90 m3s have a bearing eatting V8. Twins will eat it up all day. M3 does perform better handling but how many track any cars.
You must not know too much about your car "n54 owner ". They are called "m3 eaters" for a reason. It doesn't take much to tear an M3 up either.
@@kuraryuX 5 to 6k 335i? maybe the one that survived Katrina?

N54 will always be known as Europe's 2jz for its capability for innovation. You'll see guys rolling close to 800 horses on those beauties which is ludicrous fast. Same thing with Porsche's 997 GT2RS, a beast that was almost quicker than a Veyron on a straight away...
Air intake and flash = 100 whp? Strange
Babar iqbal catless downpipe too. N54 has huge potentials, it can handle high boost pressure.
An intercooler can give you 20+hp what do you mean no extra power involved? Especially with the dci intake and downpipes put together.
I'd say, get the E60 535i and go nuts on parts then race your M5
I hear ya if I can get a manual, for sure, it’s just really hard to find. A highly modded 535 could teach the M5 a lesson
My E60 has upgraded twins! I did a build on my channel! It should be making in the 550+ rwhp range! If you want to race we can arrange that just to see what a modded N54 can do
@@nateonfireball I just subbed to your channel. I also have an e60 535i and i'm slowly collecting the parts to upgrade mine. I got lucky when I bought mine, right before I bought it the injectors were replaced with the index 12 ones, the plugs and coils were replaced, the problematic hpfp was replaced with BMW's upgraded one and when I got it I replaced the lpfp and the ekpm3. So anyone else reading this that wants to upgrade an N54, the parts I just listed need to be done before you start upgrading it.
Aaron Laro thanks for the sub man I appreciate it! I’m going to be releasing a new video next week to new N54 owners! I’ve had both sides of the coin! A beat up N54 that needed a lot of work and a mint condition one owner car that I bought from BMW! I’ll cover a lot of that! Honestly man for the E60’s FBO is really fun! The torque comes in really strong with full bolt ons and E60 fuel! Moves the big car well! I’m dialing in these upgraded monsters but you can’t shove too much boost with these turbos in at low rpm you’ll bend rods. Let me know if you have any questions about anything. You’re 100% on the right track with knocking maintenance out first. It’s not fun when you do an upgrade and can’t enjoy it because you’re misfiring or whatever.

DCI are the most common power robbing modification gullible owners perform.
Which injectors are an upgrade, pray tell? LPFP and HPFP are first upgrades of the fuel system
DCI with intake scoops. The scoops will keep those temps closer to ambient.
Injectors are known the fail on these engines. Upgrade to the newer revised index 12 is a must for reliability
Actually Injen DCI intake is the best intake you could possibly getvon this car, just put some heat shields on each cone and you'll be good especially if you're running the intakes with dp's and a 7 stepped intercooler. Maybe you should get a walnut blast, that's whats robbing your power, or maybe your running a stock intercooler and it's hella heat soaked
Bi-turbo = 2 x turbo
Twine turbo - single turbo with two exhaust inputs = twine scrolls
Powered by twine?
If you want a fast car, I say wait for an affordable used F90. This thing will glue your neck to the seat.
why? F90 what model?
U want power, let's go for a M3 supercharged.
F90 is the M5.
