'Stomach-turning': MAGA Riot’s Confederate Flag Rebuked by Fran Lebowitz | MSNBC Summit Series
So, is Fran a pessimist or a realist?!
Again appreciate her time for the conversation - and let us know if you all have ideas for other people we should invite to the Summit Series!
Jane Fonda please Ari/MSNBC 🇬🇧
I would axe the "lightning round" for a guest like Fran
I have such a crush on you!!! :)
Realist. Love her comments about algebra and sports questions on Jeopardy. I am of her time. Algebra was not taught to be applicable in our era, and because sports were entirely male dominated during our formative years, why should we care?
Dave Chappelle. That's who you should have on your Summit Series.
Angela Merkel, after her retirement.
Marco Pierre White.
Sonia Sotomayer or Elena Kagan (or both separately).
Ken Burns.
Ian McKellan.

Lucky you!. If they're anything like her, I would have loved to know them.
I'm 63 years old and I found Fran Leibowitz by accident as recently as five years ago. I always find her fascinating to listen to. This was a good interview - not too serious, quite varied of subjects, and Ari's reverence for her was palpable. She is definitely a product of her time, and yet she is also very aware of the world around her today. As I say, fascinating! I didn't want it to end. Thank you for putting this on RUclips.
It was the quickest 40+ minute video I've ever watched on RUclips
Bravo!
We're about the same age. Luckily I discovered her in the late 70s in high school when I read reviews of her book "Metropolitan LIfe." I read it at the time and loved her dry wit, with so many laugh-out-loud passages. So I feel I've known her all my life. I was just sorry that she famously suffers from writer's block and after her second book said she found it difficult to write more, though she's fine in interviews.
Fran, I'm so glad you're on this Earth!
Listening to this interview, I would like to comment that even if the truth hurts, I would rather hear that than being lied to.
Yes!❤💯👍
To bad the vast majority of Americans aren’t like that. They only vote for politicians who tell them what they want to hear.
Whatever painful truth is more bearable than a merciful lie if one ponders about the long-term cosequences.
Amen to that. We used to hear facts and make decisions for ourselves based on our own thoughts from facts we'd been given via news. Now what news outlet is trustworthy and doesn't have a bias when a few people own all news agencies of world? Makes it hard for us to think for ourselves. We are operating on little truth and a lot of conjecture based on someone else's agenda. Scary.
@Hans Klimstra I so agree. I'm the same way, I know personally even when it stings a little or a lot, getting and focusing, to strip the situation bald, and focus on the secondary or third party perspective, of someone able to step back, and tell you what they see, hear, with out a personal attachment, is a wonderful gift.
My favorite radio & TV personality IDOLS as a child growing until they died, were Walter Cronkite & Paul Harvey for the same reasons, but delivered in a somewhat lighter manner, until he dropped the hammer.
I received my Batchelor Degree in Communication Studies, but I'm one of those my college dropped my Final Degree pursuit 5 classes short (one semester) of my Webmaster Certification with an Internet Security Minor. I've paid 11 years on loans with only the 4,600 left, part of that Spring semester I didn't get.
“Being judge mental to me means I have standards” lol. Love it.
Different lens? No. She's looking through clear lenses, not rose-colored lenses. I do appreciate this gentleman as an interviewer. Nice job, Ari.

She's fabulous, isn't she?! 🖤
I laughed when Ari says 'thank you for being here,' Fran doesn't say 'Oh thank you for having me.' ... She says "You're welcome" with a curtness that punctuates all that that can imply. Haha, I love this woman.
She provided a service. Ari thanked her. And she responded aptly by saying "You're Welcome. "
@@deborahhaas8829 Listening to Liebowitz its kind of required to pay close attention to not only what is said but also how its said.
What's true on the surface gives way to what is also implied.
my favorite Fran response was Bill Maher once asked "how are you?" and Fran answered, "Compared to whom?
That's interesting because I thought it was a warm and sincere reply. I didn't interpret it as curt. I do wish more guests would reply as Fran did.
@@larryhall2805 okay.
I've watched many interviews of Fran Lebowitz and I find that many of the questions addressed to her were a bit redundant, but Ari asked intelligent questions, well thought out, and a few were even I might describe as challenging. Of course Fran being the woman that she is answered eloquently. Very entertaining interview. Great job Ari, and thank you Fran!
I love Fran, you never know what level of wit she will deliver to the interviewer. She is a living Maxine that we so love on Hallmark cards! ; )

I don't think Fran is negative. She's a disappointed optimist.
AMEN
Fran is just blunt she doesn’t sugar coat things she says to protect the sensibilities of snowflakes.
I love the term “disappointed optimist”….but that’s not what she is…. I think she is more of a “callous sophisticate”.
She answered the question, she's a realist, and I would add that since reality is mostly negative, and she reflects reality, she is seen as negative.
Perfect analysis.
Probably the best interview on all the major stations in the last 5 years, if not longer.
I’ve noticed that Ari has been doing interesting interviews. I agree that this is really good.

Bravo Fran!!! Question authority, question EVERYTHING!
Fran is amazing! One of the most truthful individuals in America. This is coming from a Canadian who lived in NYC for 10 years.
One of the most authentic individual on earth. So rare.
But I do not know, why, I can punch Melber in the gut sometimes.
I lived in Manhattan my first 40 years (1966-2006) and I used to see Fran on occasion walking on the upper west side (I lived off of west 65th), especially in Central Park often with other people or her dog. New Yorkers don’t bother famous people on the street as a rule, so the most I did was wave and say hello, or make quick small talk while waking. She’s always interesting. There are a lot of awful things I can say about New York, but it’s never boring, and neither are the people who live there. It always would make me laugh when I’d see Fran being cranky on a talk show, or read something she wrote that was cranky, because every single time I saw her she looked very happy and would give me a big warm smile that didn’t seem at all phony. It’s too bad she smokes cigarettes, I do worry about her health, and the world would be worse off without her in it.
Well you obviously haven't met tara lila rose.....

I was never asked an adult question until I was about 20. Now I talk to my grandchildren as tho they are real people.
Thank you and they will also thank you, one day !
They are Real people, but they don't deserve a vote on certain issues.
People who were seen and not heard have OVERCOMPENSATED too much. Feeling are not facts.
Parents should not be "friends" with their children. Mine are grown now and I am enjoying the friendship, but not while they were younger. I usually have them a choice between two options.
Me too, I remember as a five year old, my old man would arrive home from work, get out of his car say hello, go change , sit down on the porch with a drink and say, " ok, it's gown up time now, go and play."

Reality has innumerable facets though, and we can choose to focus more energetically on the ones that are grating, or tough, or irreparable, or infuriating.... etc, or we can focus on the many which are clearly indications of good will, indications of efforts toward constructive ends, indications of collaboration, etc. So what we focus upon can indeed show our bent, our mindset.

This interview was so well done. I’m used to seeing her dry, sarcastic side. This brought a whole different side to light.
Instead of, “I’m entitled to defend myself”, they are thinking, “I’m entitled to offend you, and because there may be consequences, I want guns for backup.”
So true, some thinks the constitution give you the right to OFFEND, not so. It gives you the right to DEFEND. To defend includes peaceful protesting, and speaking up about things like voters suppression and police brutality.
