"I am dealing with an injury" - Elias Pettersson, preseason 2024-25. I don't understand how there is any question about whether or not he is playing hurt. It's crazy how little people want to actually listen to this player and what he literally says. This is NOT reading between the lines, he directly said it and yet we're still debating it like he just was making a funny Swedish joke about tendonitis. Why don't they shut him down? Because there's no surgery for it and he has said this too. He is learning to manage the pain and play thru it and it's affecting his game. That is known information. How long will it affect his game for? I have no clue, and maybe his entire productive years really are done like everyone in this market keeps weirdly assuming, but it's wild to see the number of "insiders" who have had the answer to this question for AGES, that still continue to question it.
If he was actually injured, he shouldn't be playing. Why are you playing in games 1-4 when injured? It's the go to excuse, but there's no actual evidence to support it. It's the same thing as Lehner when people question anything with him, he just throws out the mental health thing and people immediately lay off. If you're injured, what are you doing to correct it? What is the timeline? Is there not a better option available than a non effective player that says he's injured?
@@Marixa1979 It sounds like the way to deal with what he is dealing with is to do regular rehab, but it also sounds like there isn't a surgery option that will help. Honestly, it seems like something similar to Kawhi and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we see "load management" come up eventually. The reason he keeps playing is probably simple: the player and team are betting on him learning to manage it effectively in the long run and become a highly-productive player again, but he can't learn to do that by not playing. Again, he may not ever learn how, but I doubt either party wants to think about what it means if he can't.
Ya folks can't seem to deal with reality. I knew he was hurt last year and i said so. It took him a while to come right out and say it. Like you mentioned he said it again in the preseason. Anyone that has watched him play can tell he is hurtin. He can't play hurt because he starts to think and that is the kiss of death. He just doesn't have a high tolerance for pain and/or just can't focus when he has a health issue. He needs to address diet, my guess is his sucks. He needs to go Carnivore to heal his weak body, taking him out of the line up will help.
@@Marixa1979There is no rehab or timeline with tendinitis that’s the problem. I still have tendinitis in my shoulder after a decade of countless hours of every kind of rehab in the book. Honestly I feel for the guy because if I had this constant pain in my knee while trying to play hockey at NHL level that would be tough. With that being said, yes it’s painful but I can still lift as much as before. You just have to that mentally tough attitude that I don’t think he was born with. You have to want it more than the pain.
Clearly he is injured and he is one player who can't seem to play injured. He tends to think and that destroys his game. Looks like the world is catching up to me and are now beginning to see i have been correct since about the midpoint in last years season. That is why i predicted he will only score 67 points, about 50% of what he is capable of if healthy. They won't sit him out cuz he has just a nagging injury that will not be helped by sitting him out (so they think). He is a player that needs to address diet and get complete rest for his body or he will be the greatest "bad contract" in Canucks history (again a prediction i made cuz he can't play hurt and he ain't hurt enough for them to sit him out and find out what his health issue is). Nice to see yall coming around to reality like myself.
ep40 is soft and a feather wieght playin in a middle/heavy wieght league Few games ago i watched him fall 4x during a 50/50 puck battle However debrusk is a keeper
Petey got lucky with the year he resigned. A lot of forwards were demanding raises that year and petey capitalized on the money bag. Petterson is still my favorite player don't get me wrong. As were the sedins before him and Bure before them. Something has to happen and I really hope it isn't a trade.
Such a terrible contract. Have no idea why Alvin rushed to get it done. Also Pettersson just lookin like a total goofball when he was actin like he had leverage and was worth this much, and now all it is is excuses.
*They did make a major major mistake signing that contract. It was a hard gamble and Peterrson was already on a downward trend a couple months prior to the signing. This was also not his first time in his career being inconsistent with lackluster performance for months at a time. We've seen this in prior seasons as well. Petey has a high ceiling, but also a very low floor. Players like McDavid, MacKinnon, Matthews, even on their slumps, are producing more than this. They just simply have a much higher floor even on bad nights. And now Pettersson's being paid around that proximity, he needs to perform up to standards. He's not hurt, because if he was, the organization would have rested him.*
Is anyone else thinking about not watching the team if this continues? Like why should I give this team my time when the players don't give a shit. Such a shame, I was looking forward to this teams future.
Petey and Kuzy played great together so dump Kuzy but sign Sprong. No Zadorov but they sign Desharnais and Forbort. Now they want to put a defensive liability on D with Brannstrom. The Tocchet mind must be ready to burst. Allvin and the Chipmunks are looking like road kill at this early stage.
Yeah well you over paid him another benning move and not getting anything in return. He's gonna have to suck it up buttercup he's got a magnifying glass on him now maybe move him down to the fourth line
Why are you allowed to make stupid comments is a better question. Those guys aren't falling down every shift, they aren't just doing the motions, and they look like they are trying. This isn't about 1 or even 3 games. Pettersson been playing poorly for like 4 months and in the playoffs and now in 3 games.
Huberdeau's heart has been mended after 2 years of the trade of the century. Petey's has a lot of heart but his balls has yet to be mended! May take more than 2 years ladies and gentlemen!
Tocchet has coached the offence out of this guy. Both highlights he’s thinking he doesn’t want to get caught out of position if the puck gets turned over. Tocc has to take the reins off Petey or this is headed for a divorce.
Honestly, I agree to a large extent. Late in the Tampa game Pettersson sped up his game in the offensive zone and looked far more threatening but most of the time he's playing safe. I get that EP is a proud guy who doesn't want to get his points by cheating defensively but it's been a long time since he's committed to using his skill to drive his line.
I thought that Pettersson never looked like he had the physicality or the drive to be a top player in this league from his first and second season. Yet 97% of fans all said that he was incredible and we’ve got a generational talent on our team, he’s the next Gretzky etc. sure, maybe over exaggerated, but I wasn’t convinced. He’s been found out. What are all these fans saying now? Be patient? He’s been below average for years now, save for a couple of decent spells. Never was convinced and unfortunately it looks like I saw something that most others didn’t, or didn’t want to believe they saw.
Who ever said he has physicality? LOL. People said he was a top player because he got 105 points and played like a superstar. Now he's not even playing at a ok player level. Either he's hurt or it's a mental issue. Hopefully he's just hurt because it's easier get over that than a mental issue.
If you're a Swede looking for a nice, safe, Euro-similar city to live while making an NHL fortune, without the kind of pressure and expections to achieve that any other Canadian fracnchise fan base has, Vancouver's your ticket.
Whole team could be doing better. Hopefully they iron out wrinkles soon though, but before the first 10 games of the season I'm not gonna panic about some lazy plays. I swear Petey has resting-neutral-face which does him no favours too.
That's what happens when you sign the big contract, the expectations go up, and if their performance is underwhelming, it becomes super obvious. Pettersson was garbage in the playoffs, a non factor.
Buddy! If he’s making 11.6 we have every right to shit on him. He’s not even playing like a million dollar player. 11 million dollar players are difference makers
Seems odd you guy say he's hurt ..After last seasons all star break he has not been the same player ..And a ghost in the playoffs ..11.6 million and what for a ghost
was there ever a more dislikable star in the Canucks history than Petey? It's all his mental attitude. I said it after the playoffs last year... this guy needs a summer of a psychologist or some sort of mental motivator and put in that work. But for sure, he collected his cheque this summer and seems to be the exact same person we saw lasst year. He should be a bit ashamed of himself at this point
Watching the games made me frustrated by his play and WANT to complain, but reading through how moronic and caveman-brained everyone in this comments section is has brought me perspective back in the opposite direction, to be honest. The injury reason is actually pretty valid justification, but people just don't want to hear it because it's a lame situation with no quick solution in sight, and they immaturely want to put a target on their frustrations. He has a long term injury that is not viable to sit out for the full duration of (because it's too chronic-- they're not going to make him sit out for the years and years it may take for it to go away), and that the team's doctors have determined won't be worsened by playing through. It is an injury that's primarily about managing pain, and despite playing below his standards, it's still a level that's more effective/useful than that of non-roster players (I would not rather have Aman out there than this crappier version of Pettersson, personally). The contract unfortunately puts a magnifying glass on this, and perhaps you can get on him for not playing through the pain better, or for the team's doctors if you still disagree with not resting him. However, all this other stuff is pretty baseless, unnecessary, and pie-in-the-sky drama-queen hissy-fitting. The results we're seeing are 100% explainable by the injury (the body language, the falling down, not engaging physically-- knee tendinitis accounts for all of that). By denying it, you're just telling yourself what you want to hear.
Peterson looks awful, his contract might end up being worse than loui Erickson. Think about it, 11.6 for anything under 82 points is garbage. He looks like a 50 point player
Pettersson makes more than Kucherov...think about how ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS that is....and he's not hurt...he's stuck in his little child head. When Petey started out...it wasn't about the money...he was having fun and playing the game he loved....these HUGE contracts are toxic for mentally underdeveloped kids with talent
He's just a horrible skater that always compensated for it with elite puck skill. Now that he's in a psychological slump with puck-decision making, he has no skating to fall back on, and it's exposing just how far from an NHL level skater he is. I've never seen a worse skater in the league. How could a local hockey segment be asking if they've worked with him "SO HE DOESNT FALL DOWN"...?? About an 11.6M NHL player. Unbelievable.
My theory is that most of the problem is between his ears. Is he viewing media comments about his play? I know that this ,in theory, shouldn't matter but for most people it does. Less screen time, video gaming and focus on what got you here. Play the game ffs
I'll tell you what's wrong with him... he's soft! But he also skates too upright and holds his bottom hand too high on the stick... this is why he's not strong on the puck. Hoglander playing on his line is the only thing that's made him look like anything less than a totem pole out there over the last year
Louie Ericsson 2 bad attitude you can see it in every interview we could have gotten 2 great hard working Canadian boys . Scooter boy put him in the AHL
Patrick Laine is more of a "I will have no motivation if people don't give me the puck, and give me good players to play with", while Pettersson is more like "I'm playing bad, yes I am bad, I don't like myself playing bad, who am I really".
He's mentally and physically weak. Stop with the injury narrative FFS. He got his bag. He has no reason to improve. The guy has zero pride in himself, the city, the fans, and the crest on his jersey. He has to get offloaded THIS season before the trade window closes. An absolute fraud.
@glenrichardson8266 This isn't intramural floor hockey Glen. It's pro sports. And these multimilionaires aren't just getting paid an above average salary. This particular employee is paid the sum of 57 surgeons. He has one job. If you or any normie shit the bed this hard for over half the work year, you would be shit canned so fast your head would spin. Demand more. He's being paid to be excellent on a consistent basis.
To me petterson reached his highest peak last season. He just doesn't have the physicality for the nhl. It seems to me that the hardships of what entails an 82+ games season is something he just can't endure. The talent is there for sure- no question about it - but today's nhl talent alone won't do it
That's not the problem, the problem is that people are trying to make Pettersson play a style that is not his. There are plenty top players in the NHL that are not physical, I don't think Matthews are that physical for example, so the problem is that people are messing with Petterssons head and he is easily tilted. He fell easily when he was magical the first seasons, but that wasn't a problem, but now it's a problem because he's thinking about it, knowing that people see it as a weakness. I always knew this would be the outcome for Pettersson, I always told my friend, I hope they don't try fix something that ain't broken. People expect Pettersson to be like McKinnon or McDavid, so Pettersson expects that too because of it.
He needs to be traded! Give him away for nothing! He is just another soft Swede. I know one of the top brass of the Canucks and he told me he is lazy and not worth the money. Unfortunately, the GM and Rutherford was suckered.
Stop making excuses for his poor play and effort. He was never worth more than the Miller contract and I was shocked they paid him the biggest contract in Canucks history. Last year, 'Kuzmenko was the problem' on the Pettersson line, who is taking the fall this season?
Why do the NHL not have performance based contracts or some incentive programs? I know it can cause lots of issues if you have, say points based salary but having a long term contract with fixed pay just doesn't seem like a good idea.

@@gskeyz2987 Yeah, want it like 11.6 million per season, want it.
They should send him to Abbotsford for a couple of months. His problems began when he signed his big contract. His head needs the proverbial shake.
"He's hurt" he had 4 months off....
The day the refs stop giving him power plays for lack of leg strength will be when more people will wake up to him being a huge payroll drain.
Columbus needs to get to cap floor. Trade him for Fantilli
I would have kept Lindholm and traded Pettersen
He is a 3rd liner at best right now.
Love Donny's take! Don't think he's injured though...not physically anyway. Maybe it's a "between the ears" issue.
ep40 is soft and a feather wieght playin in a middle/heavy wieght league Few games ago i watched him fall 4x during a 50/50 puck battle However debrusk is a keeper
Trade him please
Petey got lucky with the year he resigned. A lot of forwards were demanding raises that year and petey capitalized on the money bag. Petterson is still my favorite player don't get me wrong. As were the sedins before him and Bure before them. Something has to happen and I really hope it isn't a trade.
Such a terrible contract. Have no idea why Alvin rushed to get it done. Also Pettersson just lookin like a total goofball when he was actin like he had leverage and was worth this much, and now all it is is excuses.
If EP40 is hurt leave him on LTIR... this could turn out a lot worse than the OEL contract
Brannstrom has easily been their best defenseman after Hughes and Hronek so far.
Yeah well you over paid him another benning move and not getting anything in return. He's gonna have to suck it up buttercup he's got a magnifying glass on him now maybe move him down to the fourth line
Should’ve kept lindholm and zadorov
ep still hurt! he hd 4 to 5 months off! come on now! hes not! since signing hes new contract hes been way off! waste of money! thx to pat allvin!
Why is Miller, Hughes or Boeser not getting any heat? Did they score yesterday?
they don't make 93 million dollars....a so-called-superstar making that kind of money is supposed to be a difference maker....is he???
Tell me you know nothing about hockey without telling me lol
Why are you allowed to make stupid comments is a better question. Those guys aren't falling down every shift, they aren't just doing the motions, and they look like they are trying. This isn't about 1 or even 3 games. Pettersson been playing poorly for like 4 months and in the playoffs and now in 3 games.
Huberdeau's heart has been mended after 2 years of the trade of the century. Petey's has a lot of heart but his balls has yet to be mended! May take more than 2 years ladies and gentlemen!
OEL40
EP11.6
BAMBI40
100% mental seems like he overthinks it and he s never "in the zone". He needs to find having fun playing hockey
Nice to finally see people realizing what i’ve always known Petey was. An overrated, mentally weak, no killer instinct, bambi skating “allstar”.
Petterson is hurt lol....His emotional well being lol
What do you expect from Vancouver fans? Same group of ppl who rioted over hockey games while we’re all paying $3k to live in shoe boxes
I swear Petey has resting-neutral-face which does him no favours too.
like i said before, he will nver be worth 11.6 m usa bucks! trade tht bum!
He’s got the Todd burtuzzi disease. Got the big money and disappears
He’s definitely hurt. Watch highlights from the 2022-23 season and tell me he’s skating the same way
Petterson is gonna start pulling a Ben Simmons soon
Just sit back collect the cheque
When are hes gonna have a consistent good NHL player.
4 goals playing 5 on 5 since the all star game. 😬
How quickly everyone can turn against you. He’s coming off a 100+ and 85 point seasons. Yes, he’s been quiet early, but a lot of players have.
Majority of his points were produced in the first half of last season he’s been underwhelming for 50+ games it’s not quickly turning against him
That's what happens when you sign the big contract, the expectations go up, and if their performance is underwhelming, it becomes super obvious. Pettersson was garbage in the playoffs, a non factor.
its not just these 3 games, its been trending since last half of the last season and playoffs...
he's not quiet early dude....he has 8 goals in his last 49 games...he's worth 7 or 8 million per year...THAT'S IT!!!
Buddy! If he’s making 11.6 we have every right to shit on him. He’s not even playing like a million dollar player. 11 million dollar players are difference makers
Pettersson is just now coming to grips he is gay!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Know from experience?
nah, normal for swedes

Seems odd you guy say he's hurt ..After last seasons all star break he has not been the same player ..And a ghost in the playoffs ..11.6 million and what for a ghost
was there ever a more dislikable star in the Canucks history than Petey? It's all his mental attitude. I said it after the playoffs last year... this guy needs a summer of a psychologist or some sort of mental motivator and put in that work. But for sure, he collected his cheque this summer and seems to be the exact same person we saw lasst year. He should be a bit ashamed of himself at this point
Well, he's not as bad as Mark Messier, but that's not saying much.

No team mate was a good fit maybe he's the problem
Tampa is a no income tax state dummy
@@Canuckslover4043 i'm talking contract size you f'in idiot
He's just a horrible skater that always compensated for it with elite puck skill. Now that he's in a psychological slump with puck-decision making, he has no skating to fall back on, and it's exposing just how far from an NHL level skater he is. I've never seen a worse skater in the league. How could a local hockey segment be asking if they've worked with him "SO HE DOESNT FALL DOWN"...?? About an 11.6M NHL player. Unbelievable.
@@Canuckslover4043 are you serious??? i'm talking about contract size you f'in idiot...go be a TROLL somewhere else you miserable POS
wow lol that us amazing...we're screwed
Petterson belongs in women’s hockey league
My theory is that most of the problem is between his ears. Is he viewing media comments about his play? I know that this ,in theory, shouldn't matter but for most people it does. Less screen time, video gaming and focus on what got you here. Play the game ffs
I'll tell you what's wrong with him... he's soft! But he also skates too upright and holds his bottom hand too high on the stick... this is why he's not strong on the puck. Hoglander playing on his line is the only thing that's made him look like anything less than a totem pole out there over the last year
At this rate he ain’t worth 1.6
Buy him out and let's tank baby
That's dumb.
Louie Ericsson 2 bad attitude you can see it in every interview we could have gotten 2 great hard working Canadian boys . Scooter boy put him in the AHL
either situation is definitely possible, both are terrible for the canucks
Peterson has a gameing addiction
Is he suffering from Patrick Laine disease?
Patrick Laine is more of a "I will have no motivation if people don't give me the puck, and give me good players to play with", while Pettersson is more like "I'm playing bad, yes I am bad, I don't like myself playing bad, who am I really".
He’s afraid of getting hurt again
Like my Dad used to say from the stands at minor hockey. Skate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I assume it is a mental thing. Looks like he is scared to make painful plays. Very sad to see. Hopefully he gets over with it.
If I were him I'd want to get traded too. They are taxing him 53 percent of his salary. Think about it.
I bet McDavid signs in a American market next year too.
EP wallet is to heavy and can;t move fast enough THE KIDS A WHIMP HAVE YOU SEEN HIM IN STREET CLOTHS? YES HE COULD BE HURT THEN GO TO REHAB SIT OUT
There is nothing wrong with PEtey. He is playing exactly how I expected. WOrst signing in Nucks history...
He's mentally and physically weak. Stop with the injury narrative FFS. He got his bag. He has no reason to improve. The guy has zero pride in himself, the city, the fans, and the crest on his jersey. He has to get offloaded THIS season before the trade window closes. An absolute fraud.

To me petterson reached his highest peak last season. He just doesn't have the physicality for the nhl. It seems to me that the hardships of what entails an 82+ games season is something he just can't endure. The talent is there for sure- no question about it - but today's nhl talent alone won't do it
you don’t need physicality when you’re a proven 100+ point scorer in 82 games in the nhl
Give petey more money :) that’ll solve the problem, the problem of nucks in playoffs
He was at the end of his shift on the PK - chill the F out. Nothing wrong with him, you guys are knit-picking, over-analyzing, drama queens.
He needs to be traded! Give him away for nothing! He is just another soft Swede. I know one of the top brass of the Canucks and he told me he is lazy and not worth the money. Unfortunately, the GM and Rutherford was suckered.
😂😂😂
Stop making excuses for his poor play and effort. He was never worth more than the Miller contract and I was shocked they paid him the biggest contract in Canucks history. Last year, 'Kuzmenko was the problem' on the Pettersson line, who is taking the fall this season?
He's a typical Swedish hockey player. What incentive does he have to play harder? He's swimming in gravy! $$$$
Why do the NHL not have performance based contracts or some incentive programs?
I know it can cause lots of issues if you have, say points based salary but having a long term contract with fixed pay just doesn't seem like a good idea.
