worth pointing out - in rugby League - Toronto entered the British Rugby League system pyramid at the bottom. Reaching the top league but then having to leave due to covid. So is its possible. yes. It would be good to throw a wrench in another countries top division. - but why do they automatically get top league status? question for anther day.
@@iambicpentakill its more about the distance. imagine having to do a 10 hour flight to play a game. toronto to vancouver is 5 hour plane ride - toronto to leeds is 10.
There are plenty of instances of teams joining leagues from neighbouring countries, even if their home country also has a league. Think the 5 Welsh teams in England, TNS and Berwick Rangers from England in Wales and Scotland, Derry City from Northern Ireland in Ireland, the 3 Canadian teams in the MLS, FC Andorra in Spain, Wellington Phoenix (and from next season, Auckland FC) in Australia, etc. It would make sense for them to join a neighbouring country's league, not one miles away. 1) Bulgaria. Nearest country to Fenerbahce, shortest average travel distance for every team in the division to Istanbul, and I don't believe there's too much tension with Bulgaria compared with other countries in the region. 2) Greece. Bordering country, not ridiculously far for other teams to travel to, higher average quality so more competitive. 3) Cyprus. Unlikely due to the Turkish annexation of Northern Cyprus, and the fact it's worse quality than the other 2 just mentioned and a further travel distance. 4) Saudi Pro League. Less likely due to change of continent and further travel distance, but probably a higher quality than the rest of the leagues mentioned, also a fellow Muslim country, and Fenerbahce are geographically on the continent of Asia so it wouldn't be too out there. Problem is, Asia doesn't allow foreign clubs into the AFC Champions League even if they play in an Asian league, so that would probably put them off. 5) Egypt. Shorter travel time than Saudi Arabia and still a Muslim country, but still a continental switch and one they have no prior affiliation with. However, the Egyptian league provides a decent quality, probably matching that of Bulgaria, and there isn't any apparent restriction on foreign clubs in the African Champions League, but that's because virtually none currently exist, so it's not a problem they will have had to have considered before. Also, continental games in Africa will be a much bigger trek than Europe or Asia.
I feel like it’s an intriguing problem I feel like the way this could be sorted is put the pressure on the Turkish FA from UEFA, threaten that if they don’t sort out these issues they’ll face a suspension from European competitions. I mean it wouldn’t be the first time they did that
Okay, i don't have a horse in the turkish league but i gotta say it's hilarious to hear one of the Big3 Istanbul Clubs complain about unfair treatment from their federation
Seeing that Fener have been wrongfully accused matchfixing by a lawyer who is allied to a terörist organization (feto). He said that the fener president would go and hide which the president did the opposite of. The lawyer himself was seen fleeing the country
because it is ridiculous. we’re talking about the club that has already been proven of match fixing once, and consistently wins games over the years through questionable penalties in stoppage time. just because they’ve been on the bad side of Trabzonspor’s psycho fans a few times doesn’t change the fact that they’re the most spoiled and entitled club arguably in all of football. the world would genuinely be a better place without Şikebahçe.
Well... It's not like this has not happened before. Newport, Cardiff, Swansea and Wrexham for starters in English league system Wellington Phoenix in Australian League system
I would combine the Greek, Balkan and Turkish leagues. That would give better ability for good talents from the region to hang around, as opposed to immediately being signed to Germany France etc.
Even if for example Serie A accepted them, at what point would they enter? What about the teams promoted from Serie B? Would fenerbahçe have to start from the regional italian leagues? On a side note that would be an interesting fm save, making a foreign team start from the 10th tier of english football
Another thing to consider is, even if Fenerbahçe joins another league, they won't start in the 1st division of said league, no team would ever accept being relegated just because a team from another country wants to join them, that's just stupid lol (unless they're hugely compensated financially but EVEN THEM that's pretty stupid)
The closest American Equal to the European Soccer System is the NCAA college set up, and it's happening here with conferences changing and dissolving all together, it's just a huge money grab, and can totally see this happening in Europe
As a fan in England I would love to see a situation where there are 2-3 pan-European leagues which then break down into regional leagues and then national leagues in a proper pyramid structure that would be the new standard. Given the lack of competition in a number of leagues I think that’s the natural direction. Critically, it must not be a closed league, which would destroy the competitive European structures
Yea, Fener does this every few years. But when things go in their favor...they are quiet. I mean that 'Cleared of wrong doing' crap? Yea, they didn't get 'cleared'. And the President is also a fan of their club and was quite 'supportive' of them until he propped up another team 'Istanbul Başakşehir' and got a Stadium with his own name on it. It is the eternal wheel of 'which big club is favored this time' and in the recent times, it is Galatasaray. And I see this as a Beşiktaş fan who, by our own incompetence, suffer quite a lot but also certain 'decisions' in these derbies. I mean, just look at the league table and see how BIG the gaps are with Galatasaray is at 81 points. Fener is 79...the next closest? Trabzon with 49 and then us Beşiktaş at 46. Compared to last year, it is RIDICULOUS...hilariously so. 50 goal difference both teams have compared to the rest of the league. And all the money those teams 'found' lying around while riddled in debts to sign those big name players... So forgive me if I am not sympathetic to Fener. And hell, if any other league is stupid enough to take them, go ahead, see how that turns out.
National leagues would be terrible for match going fans. Imagine someone from the bottom of England playing someone at the top of Scotland would be a massive expense trip
Welcome to the UK's new age of 'news'. We have hundreds of local and national 'newspapers', all owned by a couple of companies that are exactly the same. I am actually quite surprised that you found a genuine news story on one. Most of the time, they are reporting on something that somebody somewhere tweeted.
I don't think that they are actually seriously considering it. I think they are saying it because they want their own FA to take things seriously and fix the league. Putting some pressure on them etc.
if you want a good rabbithole to dive into, look into Trabzonspor's history within the Turkish league and you'll see their fan base has full right to feel like the Turkish FA has been against them over the past 20-30 years. Why? Because Trabzonspor was the first team outside of Istanbul to win the title, and when they won their first, they won more and were somewhat of a dynasty within Turkey following their first title win. This was an offense to the "establishment" aka the big 3 (Gala, Fener, Besiktas), in a sense of "the audacity of Trabzonspor to take the title away from Istanbul". The most egregious one is what the Trabzon fans call "the stolen season", a year where they were on top for the full season up until the end, when Fener went on an insane winning run to steal the title. Later the president of Fener went to jail for matchfixing, but the Turkish FA let Fener keep the title instead of Trabzonspor. The distaste from Trabzon fans towards the Turkish FA has not cooled down since then, a former Trabzonspor player has a statue in Trabzon depicting the moment he "sent off" the referee with the ref's red card (the ref had dropped his red card on the ground, the Trabzonspor player picked it up and "sent off" the ref with it). That's how much the action meant to Trabzon, it was a statement against the FA. There's a great COPA90 documentary on Trabzon, I'd recommend it.
The only one which would make sense is a close-by fellow UEFA country. Since the Turks don’t get on with Greece or Armenia, Georgia I’m not sure about, Bulgaria seems the most obvious choice, they even share a land border and Bulgaria might even be happy to have the financial help that having a famous team might bring in terms of TV revenue, visiting fans etc.
@@octavianpopescu4776 Bulgarian football is on such a low at the moment (they accepted the FIFA series that even Albania thought was beneath them!) I think it could help them. I think even Ludgorets Razgrad, who have won every season since 2011, would even appreciate having decent opposition. It’s not as though they would lose an automatic champions league place. I suspect the Ludgorets v Fenerbahce match would sell out and Ludgorets would welcome the cash injection too.
@@Tris2000 But wouldn't the other clubs at least want them to start from the lowest leagues? It would be unfair for them to just show up and jump over a lot of teams trying to get to the top level.
@@octavianpopescu4776 Yes, you're right. Of course it is unfair, I never said it would be fair! I just think that if they were going to do it anyway, Bulgarian FA and Bulgarian fans are less likely to put up a fight. After all, Bulgarian football has become so one-sided for the past 13 years, those lower league teams who are being jumped over may be only too happy to see it as a two-sided league for a while. If I were eg a Scottish Championship fan of Alloa Athletic, unlikely to reach the premier and even if they did they would never break the hegemony of Celtic and Rangers, I probably wouldn't complain too much if eg Newcastle United jumped the queue and joined the Scottish premiership just to give the Glasgow dominators a run for their money!

if you want a good rabbithole to dive into, look into Trabzonspor's history within the Turkish league and you'll see their fan base has full right to feel like the Turkish FA has been against them over the past 20-30 years.
And now there is a leak of a referee meeting where hugh dallas roasts refs who gave cheap penalties
bayern munich threatens to join the italien league every 20 years, its not gona happen :P
The Greek leagues would make some sense but clearly that won’t happen ha
Reminds me of when Bayern wanted to join Serie A. Yes that actually happened look it up
The only one which would make sense is a close-by fellow UEFA country.
I don't think they'd welcome the competition.
If I were eg a Scottish Championship fan of Alloa Athletic, unlikely to reach the premier and even if they did they would never break the hegemony of Celtic and Rangers, I probably wouldn't complain too much if eg Newcastle United jumped the queue and joined the Scottish premiership just to give the Glasgow dominators a run for their money!
daily mail really r so dead they need 42 ads a page to break even mayb
This could only work, If they leave the city and move as franchise like some teams in the NFL.
What's next? welsh teams in the english league?... wait....
I bet Zealand would be a cute little femboy. He's clearly into it considering the ads.
The only country this makes geographic sense for is Greece, and I don’t think that would fly politically.
I can't lie Zee, you deserve it for managing spurs. I urge you to join the right side of north london
