Biscayne National Park

Biscayne National Park, located in southern Florida, encompasses a vast protected area that is predominantly water, covering over 172,000 acres. Established as a national park in 1980, it serves to preserve the northernmost group of living coral reefs in the United States, as well as the mangrove forests along the shoreline, and the clear waters of Biscayne Bay. Stella and I departed from Dinner Key Marina in Coconut Grove where we scheduled the "Elliott Key Eco-Adventure" excursion with Biscayne National Park Institute. The tour is an interpretive outing with a quick visit jaunt to Stiltsville before heading to Elliott Key to kayak, hike and snorkel. The tour then heads to Boca Chita Key, where the island was once owned by Mark Honeywell, a wealthy industrialist and the founder of Honeywell Heating Specialty Co., before returning to the marina.
