Thanks Tingman for becoming an inspriration for me in my youtube career. I'm going to reach 10k very soon and that's because of you. Thank you sir for becoming my idol.♥
I went to six comps so far, and it only gets better! First time, I was too shy to talk to anyone. Second time, I went and deliberately came up to people to talk even if it was awkward (I was 39 and a woman, so fit to be a mom of most competitors lol). But after that, I began attending our local cubing meetups, and then I went to more comps, and the last comp held in my home town was fantastic. I was friends with many local cubers, and I also knew many of the people from other towns. I wasn't as needy as my second time, and I had a ton of chats and interactions!
I’ve been to a completion before and it’s really fun, I was a judge and a runner but sadly I didn’t make second round for 3x3. (It was the only event I did😂)
NOTE: depending on where you are you might have to register pretty much instantly as it opens. Here in the Netherlands most comps fill up very fast, and if you're late you end up at the bottom of the waiting list. Make sure to set an alarm!
I live in HK and comps are rare. A comp last year which had a quota of 200 filled up in like a little bit more than an hour. Be sure not to hesitate when thinking what events to participate in!
@@Cubing_Failure That's nothing haha, there are consistent comps near me in a place called stevenage with a 200 competitor limit, and it fills up within 15 minutes, every time

I really wish there could be a meet and greet that yiu could do so I can see yiu in person. Thanks.😊
Happy New Year everyone. May 2024 be filled with comps, PRs/PBs and a lot of cubing fun. I'm looking forward to go to a few more comps this year. PS: I will also never forget the first time I saw Feliks solve in person, that was a revelation and very inspiring.
I solved my first cube a few days after Christmas and am working on my times. I’m at 2 minutes now! I have found your videos so encouraging and inspiring and just immensely helpful. You are so warm and kind and not intimidating. I was so scared of Rubik’s cubes and put off by their complexity for so many years. But your channel has taken away that fear and turned it into fun. Thanks for all your amazing content, Tingman!
Tingman learning about the famous Kentucky moonbow. :) For the uninitiated, its a nighttime rainbow that comes out of the waterfall at Cumberland Falls state park.
My first competition was back in early 2022 and I expected I would be just there to compete and that would be it, but when I showed up I knew it would be a memorable one for sure. Competitions have been not just fun but even helped me become who I am today. 27 competitions later, I would not have expected I would be organizing one of these events for WCA beginners month! Since then I have also convinced some of my friends to go to some comps and they have become regulars. Also thanks to you for inspiring me to go to my first competition! Happy new year!
I have a few questions to ask about cubing competition 1. Do you bring your own timer or they provide it for you 2. What's the difference between cutoff time and time limit
they provide timers for you when you are actually competing, but as you spend probabky a good amount of time somewhere practicing, i would advise bringing a timer (mobile device with apps or something would work as an alternative) regardless. as for cutoff/time limit, if your solve is over the time limit it is counted as a dnf, but cutoff means you can have official singles, but if you don’t get below the cutoff time you cant complete the avg. for example i’ve never made time limit for square one, so every time i’ve competed in it it’s counted as a dnf. but for 4x4, i have made time limit, but i didn’t make cutoff in the 2 solves they give you (depending on the comp the amount of solves they give you will change but it’s generally 2), so i couldn’t complete the rest of the solves in the average. hopefully this makes sense!
I transitioned from the beginner method to f2L so I slowed down but I’ll be faster soon and when I get faster I’ll enter a Rubik’s cube comp probably Skewk 1handed 3x3 4x4 2x2 and pyraminx
I always thought that to be in a Rubik’s cube competition, you need to be less then 1 min. Because a lot of speed cubers are within 1 min. or even faster than 30 seconds. But my average solve is anywhere from 1 min. - 1 min. 30ish, because I still solve beginners method and still haven’t learned at least all of the PLL yet.
I’m so sad.. Tymon Kolasinski went to Sydney (near where I live) and my friend went to the competition he went to Now he’s met Feliks Zemdegs and Tymon Kolasinski…
3:23 thats a good point. ive been to a few of my older brothers compititions and ive never competed, hes super fast at big cubes and he holds the michigan record for 6x6 7x7 and 5x5 hes also top 60 in the world for all of those. i was also at the comp when luke got a 3.95 and now my brother is organizing one at our own town.... AND IM GOING!!
I got a rubix cube for cristmas and it's January and I learned how to solve it in 2 mins and I'm buying a gan and hope to get faster cause the rubix cube is just bad for fast
How people don't get PRs. I have broke all my PRs in every single comps of the 5 I went to. And don't think this is because I am a noob. I have a NR, NR2 and NR3.
I just had my 2nd cubing competition few weeks ago and my 1st ever was almost 5 years ago. I quit cubing for months so I just got back 2 weeks before the competition. The day of the competition, I struggled a lot especially with nervousness, my hands were shaking and couldn't focus well during inspection. I already know full oll and pll, but literally sucked during inspection (esp. cuz my hands are shaking). Hopefully in my future competitions I can do better. 😓
I live in Adelaide and there was a comp in January 2024 or January 2023 i forgot, i wanted to go to the comp but my dad said i couldn’t go. Around 5 days later i found out that tingman went to the comp i wanted to go to so i missed my chance of seeing tingman😢
I wish there were comps close to where I lived. I can solve the cube in a little under a minute, and would even be willing to drive a couple hours. However I can’t justify the cost of a plane ticket, hotel, rental car, food, and registration fees for something I have no chance of winning. The comps within driving distance were already booked. Unfortunately there aren’t any comps near me for the remainder of 2024. Fingers crossed for 2025.
