They do realise that there are women who will actually beat themselves up to play victim.. like the woman in Australia who claimed she had been abducted and tied up .. only to have it later said that she did it herself. I can't remember her reasoning.. but there are attention seekers out there who crave sympathy and by being a victim actually hold the power over another. Everytime something doesn't go there way a sudden "tragedy" or "drama" happens. There's ALWAYS a dilemma and they live their life as if they were in a soapie.
