When you have Democrats who tossed their name in the running like Cory Booker and Kamala Harris who both called this a "modern day lynching" on Twitter, then yes. If this were the other way around I would be doing federal prison time for a felony and would have been sued for everything I own.
When being a victim (or pretending to be a victim) of a hate crime is more profitable for someone than not being a victim, society is doing a lot better than we would like to admit
@@johngrepo9976 we can hope there's more fortitude and less resignation. A little digging would perhaps expose the people who paid Smollets to perform this Op.
"We're gonna be second guessing everything" "I hope not" What? What's wrong with clarification and evidence? You may believe someone but that doesn't mean you have to believe them blindly.
I don't get how Roseanne was fired immediately as she should've been. And Empire has been silent. Smh. What's good for the goose must be good for the gander.
We don't need to jump to some new level of second guessing or skepticism, ...we should continue to take all claims and allegations as seriously as always, ...but we do need to have more grave repercussions for false accusations and hoaxes. I suggest giving the hoaxer the same punishment that the falsely accused would have received if convicted. Make that the law, ...and you will see the hoaxes and false allegations begin to dry up some.
I'm not sure if I totally agree with that, especially when it's not to specifically target someone by sending them to prison over false charges, but there's a distinction I want to clarify. Hopefully what you mean is that if the accuser is proven to have lied beyond a reasonable doubt, they should be punished, not that if the accused is found not guilty. Because then that would just scare people who think they might not have a good case from coming forward about crimes committed against them. And the sad reality is that the justice system will let some guilty people go free because there just wasn't enough evidence. We shouldn't be punishing accusers in situations like that
I've been saying that for a while, whether its rape charges or hate crime allegations, that person should serve the same sentence the criminals who do those crimes go for,When and if proven without a doubt that it never happened.
Edi Rama - Yeah, ...there's a big difference between false allegations and insufficient evidence. And a hoax is even more complicated. How do you define a victimless hate crime? Where did the bruises come from? Was bleach poured on him? If the Nigerians still "did" all of this, ...does it "matter" who paid them? What about role playing in a "rape fantasy"? Is it the actions that constitute the crime, ...or just the perceptions of the supposed victim? Etc.

If taken far enough you can even get a fifth position, and that's "pursuing the truth", as opposed to "not knowing".
Having "not knowing" as a position ends up being massively less reasonable than either other option once this kind of thinking is fully explored.
I think he’s saying innocent victims will have to deal with an excess amount of unfair scrutiny now.
B exactly! Like we don't know already that we can't trust the news cause they all sound the same (like literally using same exact words and phrases). And we can't believe most we hear about celebs cause they have giant PR firms behind them fabricating stories
Racism is not cool, neither are false accusations of racism. The later seems to be the more popular of the two.
no shit lol
The false accusations are actual racism
I hate real racism. Thing is, real racism isn't as common as the left says.

Skepticism is a healthy thing, though. We should always be skeptical whenever we hear about anything like this, unless there are corroborating witnesses. Withhold judgement until the facts bubble up.
I know right.. all great thinkers are skeptics not because they refused to believe anything. But because they aren't easily swayed. People act like research is the devil or something. Nothing wrong with standing in the middle till facts from both ends are final.
What a sad sad day for America. A rich gay black actor has to pay 2 black dudes to make him feel oppressed. wtf why do mofos have to feel like a victim.

As a school teacher, this story reminds me how important it is to call children up on their bullshit. Challenge them when they lie or try to frame other people. don't let them get away with it and then forgive them for it. That way, they don't bullshit when they're older and end up in these kinds of awful situations and everybody can live on a world of truth.
You notice how people feel more bad for him even though he committed a really fucked up crime .. then they did the mags kid hat and that kid did nothing wrong at all !!!
I dont know anybody that feels bad for him
I don’t feel bad for Smollett at all because he is a piece of shit. Those MAGA kids were assholes but not to the level of Smollett

Did you see the full video? They were being harassed by a group of black guys and the kids just stood there and took the abuse.
Cuckasaurus Rex I saw the video. The black Hebrew Israelites started that entire fiasco by telling out racial slurs and insults and the from what it looked like the Native American elder came to diffuse it. But the kids went on to troll him and there was a video of them harassing some girls that the media miraculously left out
wayne47able so the Indian guy getting in the kids faces and beating a drum was part of their trolling them?
The Indian guy has a history of starting shit which can be easily looked up online if you’re interested.

It is great that it never happened.

We shouldn't be punishing accusers in situations like that
No, we should wait till the facts instead of instantly jumping down everyone's throat like everyone did with Jussie.
Etc.
You can take a claim seriously, doesn't mean you should automatically believe it though until you have further evidence of what went on.
Fake hate crimes happen daily.. but, we like to believe them all.. for the drama..
