The most dramatic (also tragic) part is not the fact that they did not recognize a famous artist, but most of them can't recognize pure art. Even without subtitles and translation you can feel that this performance has something to say. 10/10 brilliance.
I've watched this lots of times in the last couple of months and only just noticed that the official video for the song is on the screen behind him (from 5:38 - it's blurry but definitely the video of him in Brussels) so surely some of the patrons must realize he's no ordinary karaoke singer. He's got such distinctive features that they'd realize he's the guy in the video. I actually think it's beautiful the way the crowd is won over by his talent, energy and commitment as well as the multiple, layered musical hooks in the song. I just love this song and my 5-year-old daughter loves saying "formidable". I hope he's doing okay and would love to see him in concert one day.

It's actually the complete opposite, by being quiet they are showing him respect, they are also trying to show that he is different from the others by actually taking time to listen to his music.

The tiny little Alaskan Native who came up to compliment him at the end, I knew her. I think of the entire pub, she appreciated him most. She's passed away now. The bartender at the very end, I know her well, too. (love her. the bartenders at this little dive are wonderful, some working there for more than 30 years).
