TESTING THE SUREFEED MICROCHIP PET FEEDER | SVEN & ROBBIE

  • We tested the SUREFEED microchip feeder! As you may know, Sven suffers from allergies and he has developed lip sores. He has been on medication for the past few months and it has made him gain some weight. On top of that, Robbie is a really slow eater, so Sven basically eats both bowls of food. We decided to put the SUREFEED to the test and I must say that it works! Robbie now can eat as slow as he pleases without Sven stealing his food.

The feeders are working wonders! Robbie eats really slow and Sven literally just vacuums up all the food if he gets the chance. The feeder has prevented Sven from stealing Robbie's food, however smart boy found a way to sneak in from the side as Robbie eats hahahahha. Now we have to figure out a way to block the sides.

Thank you for the review, it was great to see it in action. Also the fact how the Train mode can help if a cat is scared. :) We have 7 cats (we're otherwise quite normal, thank you :D) and some have specific diets, others are like hoovers for food and steal others' food so having 7 of these would make the 'feeding management' so much easier. I just wish there was a discount when buying more of them. :D 7 feeders will make a dent in our budget. I think I'll just buy one to test how they react and go from there.

The prescription food is bad for the normal cat, the regular food is bad for my kidney disease cat. I never knew these existed until I got Googling, lol. • @SvenandRobbie

It should! Unless mr big boy figures how to sneak food by sticking his head while the girl eats 😹. Sven had a hard time adjusting; he always tried to paw at Robbie’s food. He doesn’t do it now. Once in a while he will try to stick his head while Robbie eats, but the machine closes as soon as Robbie pulls away from the bowl.

Hi, Alexis... Commenting 3 months after yours because I just got one of these feeders, and it works really *really well.
It "learned" my younger cats microchip easily; it took her maybe 24 hours to get used to approaching it so the door opens for her.
The one con is it only works on batteries, no power cord, which is a bit surprising. I bought batteries but hope to switch to the rechargeable batteries when these run down, which I've read will take a *long time.

All that money it costs (although I only paid £60, second hand off ebay, but brand new as the seller's cat didn't take to it) it should be supplied with batteries or even why not a power lead? I haven’t seen it. Does it connect to your phone and alarms you when the machine is being used? I don’t think you need to know when each cat eats unless it’s medical related. For us the boys eat right when we place their bowls down and the only thing we need to know is who is eating what.

Does anyone know if the other cat can stick their head behind the feeder while its open and get the food? The chip reader is at the front so if they go through the side or back couldn't they get their head in while the other is eating? I have 2 cats on two seperate prescription diets. I feed them in separate rooms but the one has chronic pancreatitis and ibs that flares up really bad if he eats any type of kibble at all and does anything to get into my other cats kibble. Sometimes someone will accidently let him in the room while she's eating her food and he scarfs it down as fast as he can and Im afraid he could just stick his head through the side or back and get it and I would have the same issue..

    • @SvenandRobbie
      @SvenandRobbie  3 года назад

Yes it is possible. But there is an intruder mode that closes anytime another microchip is sensed. I never used it though. If you place the feeder against a wall, it shouldn’t be as easy to get in. Sven used to try, but the wall made it too annoying for him 😅

The company now sells a protective back cover so that persistent pets can't access the back of the bowl while the intended pet is eating from it. It's sold separately for $32 USD, of course. I wish the feeder came with the back cover already installed. I love the idea of these feeders but it's irritating how much you have to pay for accessories that should be a part of the purchased product already given the price point.

This was recommended this morning by our vet. My cat Charlie and I seem to have an interloper cat who appears late at night and steels Charlie's food. Neither of us minded but on Saturday night the interloper attacked Charlie and sunk his sharp teeth into Charlie's hind leg. Ouch. Poor Charlie is miserable. So... The feeder arrives tomorrow (with batteries)... And we are going to give this a go. With the idea being that the interloper won't be able to eat Charlie's food and will become disinterested and bugger off. Fingers crossed. Charlie is an old man who is gentle and just wants a quiet life.

Awww poor beebee! I hope the feeder helps! When we first started Sven still tried stealing Robbie food. Pawing at the machine and trying to go from the other side while Robbie is eating. Now everyone sticks to their food bowls! Hope Charlie gets better soon!

I really ❤️ the connect version but, the PRICE! JESUS CHRISTTT!!! Especially as you have to buy more than one and, for the connected version, the hub costs, as well!
And, for yours, they didn’t include batteries???
They do make a stainless steel bowl but, I don’t think I’ve seen it in a split bowl, which would make sense, at least for me as, I feed both wet and dry. The answer “may” be to simply replace the included bowl with 2 stainless saucers but, you’d have to measure for that. I also don’t know that replacing the bowls with 2 stainless bowls would work for the connected version as, I think that unit goes by weight and 2 stainless bowls might not weigh the same as the stainless one that is made for it. Other stainless bowls would need to be the same height so the flap could close properly, as well.
One of my cats is fat and the other skinny. The fat one is likely fat because she was underweight as a kitten and was prescribed high calorie food but, I think that caused her to make fat cells and be overweight as an adult cat. So, I’m worried about her becoming diabetic. She is also less active as, she’s afraid of the leash and harness, while I walk the thin cat as he steps right into the harness.
Didn’t know it works with implanted microchips though.
