My poor husband gets so motion sick. He always wear sea bands 100% of the time on cruises; puts them on before stepping onto the ship and does not take them off until the entire trip is done. However, he forgot the rule applied to deep sea fishing, too. We went out to fish for red snapper off the coast of Texas. Another couple joined us. Both of us wives happily fished, while both husbands hung over the side of the boat upchucking. My companion watched them for a moment, then turned to me and said, “Chumming.”
Sea bands are amazing with no side effects, and so easy to wear. But it must be understood there is no cure for seasickness, only prevention. Put those bands on BEFORE boarding any boat, especially tender and fishing boats. Or suffer the fate of our green husbands. 😊
Thanks for a great channel. All the best!

I live in the USA. I told my story in a reply. I am still new to you tube and am having trouble figuring it all out. I have had motion sickness since I was a child. I can get seasick floating on a raft in the ocean. My most memorable story was on a trip driving through the Rocky Mountains with my family. I yelled for my family to pull over and I proceeded to get out of the car, sit on a rock, and refuse to go any further. After spending thirty minutes talking me back into the car we made it out of the mountains. As an adult, now when we go to the mountains I drive. Cured that problem. Even with my motion sickness I still go on cruises and enjoy as much as I possibly can. Have a Great October!!

My daughter always suffers from motion sickness in the car and wears the seabands when going on a long ride. She wears them on the bus coming home from college. She has a 3 hour bus ride from upstate NY. They have been a life saver for her on all our cruises. USA

Not me, but my uncle has a bad time with motion sickness ... and he's still going on the family cruise in January 2019. 7 cabins. 14 people. What a trooper he is to give it a try again just for the family time!!

I don't have issues with motion sickness, but my oldest daughter does! She gets motion sickness in the car (if she is trying to read in the car, on long rides AND in stop and go traffic), on amusement park rides, and on airplanes! She normally takes Dramamine when we are flying somewhere and carries it with her when we go to Six Flags Great America (We live in Chicago, IL). I have been on a few cruises, but my daughters have not. I am taking them on a Disney Cruise this coming May and they are super excited! I anticipate that she is going to have issues on the ship, so I bought her the patches to try out in the normal circumstances that she feels nauseous and they did not seem to help. Also, she wore the Sea Bands when she was pregnant and I seem to recall that they helped a good amount of the time.
On another note: I binge watch your videos and I want to say THANK YOU! I have very much enjoyed watching / listening to you, Mr. CTTV, and Junior Editor! Your videos are extremely informative and you have a great group of followers!

I'm 40 years old and have only ever been on one cruise. I have watched all of your MSC Seaside videos as I want to take my five sons and my husband on that cruise. On my one Ensenada cruise (not a super awesome stop), I felt like I was constantly rocking and just all around seasick feeling. A nice gentlemen gave me some drops to put behind my ear, I think it was called Motion Ease. The smell was so strong that it made me feel nauseous. lol. I watched your tips here to avoid that for myself on this cruise and also for my sons who some of them get sick on planes and sick in the car. Thank you for posting these videos. They have super helped me since I am not a cruiser and have no idea how cruises really work.

My hubby Alan gets seasick very easily, one time on the Norwegian we sailed out of the Atlantic Ocean which was so rough he spent 24 hrs. in bed, he was so sick! Alan has hearing issues which started in his 30’s....he was lucky enough to get a cochlear implant & wears a hearing aid... before that he was going deaf which was difficult for all of us, myself & 2 children...the cochlear opened a whole new world of finally being able to communicate with him, it was so exciting for all of us! We Love cruising! We’ve cruised on (Carnival 3x, Disney 1x & Norwegian 2x, Royal Caribbean 1x) would love to try Princess & MSCcruiseline from your recommendations. We Love your Vlogs!!! You have so many amazing tips!!!

I live in the USA. I have had motion sickness since I was very young. I can get seasick floating on a raft in the ocean. Once as a child we were driving with my family in the Rocky Mountains and I yelled for them to pull over at the side of the road. Not many places on a mountain to do that. They all thought I was going to be sick. I got out of the car, sat on a rock, and said I was not going any farther. It took my family about 30 minutes to talk me back into the car. It has gotten better as I have gotten older but I still can suffer without the proper precautions. Even with this sea sickness I have still been on about six cruises. I even have another planned for December. All I can say is seize the day and do not let anything keep you from enjoying your life. Have a Great October!!

I get horrible motion sickness! I can't even ride the merry go round anymore! I used to be a roller coaster fanatic (I live in Ohio USA near Cedar Point - home of some of the best coasters!) but now watching them makes me quesy! It's been years since my last cruise and I was constantly aware of the motion. Hoping for the best this time - taking my kids on their first cruise and would love to make sure I don't get sick. Cruising is my favorite vacation - I hope I don't get sick!

My husband gets very motion sick over everything. The latest was a snowmobile trip that he was throwing for hours during. The most memorable was during our trip to Oregon's coast and him throwing up on the guides lunchbox during a whale watching trip. We will be going on our first cruise in April and we are both very nervous about it. We have worked with a travel agent to get the best room possible. Hope all goes well and we will certainly meet with his physician before leaving! We live in the United States. Thanks for the tips!

I usually get motion sickness in whatever vehicle I'm riding in, I have ever since I was a kid. The last time I was on a plane from Virginia back home to Rhode Island, I was sitting in the middle seat in coach. I felt so horrible because I started throwing up a lot in my sick bag and the poor woman on my right was just about falling out of her seat trying to stay away from me! The man on my left was actually really nice about it and offered my some pepto bismol, but I said I'd probably just throw it back up. I'm going on my first ever cruise in 12 days, so I'm really hoping I won't be sick the whole time. Love your videos, they've helped me prepare so much!

It will be his first time cruising so I'm trying to be proactive and have as many solutions to sea sickness as possible before we set sail! Fingers crossed that it will be a non issue for him but I'd rather be safe than sorry! Thanks for the great tips and vlogs! Love watching!! :)

One cruise I was trying to treat my daughters sea sickness by placing a scopolamine patch behind her ear. I washed my hands well afterward (so I thought) and proceeded to put my contacts in. Soon after my vision in one eye got very blurry. My husband looked at my eye in shock telling me my one pupil was HUGE. 😳 yep the scopolamine got on my eye and dilated it for the remainder of the cruise YIKES. It did get better, but I've learned my lesson! Wash your hands REALLY well after applying those patches!

We sailed on Legend of the Seas from Acapulco to the Hawaiian Islands in '96. Day three in the middle of the Pacific I really felt the motion of the ocean, ugh. Took some Dramamine that led to a nap and feeling better. I don't cruise without some type of medicine for nausea also purchased some drugstore sea bands as a precaution as well. The only other issue I had once was on the ferry from Playa Del Carmen to Cozumel. I'm glad it doesn't happen too often!

The day before I travel I take Dramamine and take it throughout the cruise. I also use Sea Bands. After several years of getting sick on dive boats and even on Lake Michigan, I finally figured out what works for me on a cruise ship.

On my first cruise, had an awful first dinner experience. Was seated near a window in aft dining room and the ship was moving a bit. Got a bit seasick looking out at water. After that, I started using the Sea-Band wrist bands, and also ginger root capsules, and haven't had an issue since. Great Episode. Mike from USA

Husband gets motion sickness flying, driving and cruising. Fresh air and looking at the horizon always help him on a cruise. We always book a balcony to get fresh air. Getting a cabin mid-ship and low is always a sure bet. You can barely feel anything.
Ginger ale helps my daughter when the motion gets to her.

My first cruise was the only time I experienced major motion sickness. We had rough seas from Miami to The Bahamas - the captain made an announcement over the PA system. Needless to say, I was not the only person experiencing seasickness. It was much better the next day. Needless to say, it did not deter me from cruising. I love it!

Great advice. I don't have a Motion Sickness story as of yet (and hope not to) since I have not cruised before. My 19yr old Son and I will be on our 1st cruise in 58 days on the NCL Getaway to the Western Caribbean. Can't wait. I've got a Midship Balcony cabin, some Ginger chews, Dramamine & Bonine and still don't feel prepared in case I get motion sickness. One of the these Reliefband devices would be amazing to have and the Sea Bands. I'm probably more worried than I need to be, just don't want to ruin our first cruise experience by being ill. I love the Sea Bands and would love to try the Relief Band!!! I get car sick a lot. I usually do pretty well on the ship but if it starts getting rough I love the Sea Bands or ginger chews, ginger beer, etc- it really helps with the nauseous feeling.
My boss is a commercial fisherman and I got to go out with him crabbing last year, and the seas were rough that day...another lady on the boat with us was getting sick over the boat so I ran down in the hull to get my ginger beer for her and it was so rough that when I bent down, I immediately got nauseous and was trying to pour her a cup and not get sick myself or fall over... Lol. I'll never forget that one....too funny. She made it back to dock and so did I :)

From the USA. I will usually get sea sick one day each cruise. The front of the ship is definitely the worst, but for me the back isn't too bad. For me, the best way to prevent it is fresh air and to be able to see the horizon, so a balcony or at least easy access to the outside is important.

My motion sickness story happened when in 1992 (so I was about 15)- we were down in Southern California because my dad was about to retire from the Marines. My mom, sister, grandma, grandpa and I were taking a small boat from Newport Beach to Catalina Island while my dad attended "re-integration" classes. I had never been on a boat in the open ocean before so I had no idea that it would make me sick. Sadly to say for most of the trip to Catalina, I was either in the small bathroom or leaning over the rails. Oddly enough, I didn't have an issue on the trip back to Newport. My husband and I are taking our first cruise at the end of the month and we have Dramamine, Bonine, and Ginger chews already packed in our toiletries bag. My husband has never been on ship on the ocean either so we figured it's best to be safe than sorry. So glad Blogtoberfest is back! I've been watching you for just over a year now. Chris- USA

On my first cruise, booked Oceanview on lower level, got upgraded to aft balcony. One afternoon, my 2 sons, my stepmom and I were going somewhere. Walking single file in the hall because other passengers were coming toward us, I paused because I had a sudden wave of nausea, and wanted to let is subside. My son, who was behind me, was walking forward, but had turned around to talk to my other son...didn't see me stop, and ran into me. Me and my stomach lurched forward, and what seemed in slow motion, my lunch flew out and went EVERYWHERE....walls, ceiling, floor about 3.5 feet away, covering the width of the hall. Luckily, the other passengers had passed by me, and wasn't hit. I was horrified. A cabin steward came out of a room, and made sure I was ok first. He told me to go to the atrium level because there was less motion. I asked for a towel to clean it up, but he would not hear of it. He gave me a towel to clean myself up. He was so very nice and was concerned with me first, and then he cleaned it up. Next cruise, we were in an inside cabin on level 2. (I live in the USA)

I live in British Columbia. The worst motion sickness I recall having was shortly after becoming a new mom. We went on a summer vacation travelling to the different Islands in the area by BC Ferries. After about the third day I could not get the feeling of movement to leave my body. I don't get the nausea just the continual feeling of movement with extreme dizziness. My piece of advice that I got from my doctor is to make sure your ears are clear of extra wax buildup and have got my ears flushed before any long holiday and have not had the problem since.

I used the sea bands, Dramamine, ate green apples, got plenty of rest, took anti vertigo meclizine, even visited the ship’s nurse for advice. I’d love to cruise again! Even though it was rough, I would absolutely do it again if I had this device! Thanks Cruise Tips!

I time to time get travel sickness from trains and car trips. One day I was on my way to college and I got hit with a strong wave of motion sickness I got off the train twice to try rejig my self. I finally get to theory cookery class and the Head Chef is pacing the rooms in circles and semi circles I got so sick and dizzy when I stood up I fell over and had to ask him to pace back and forth in a line or let me close my eyes and listen as I couldn't watch him around the room any more. After that he'd see me come to class start a lap around the vacant space then remember if I'm to pay attention or not fall over to stay still or straight lines. I still compare my level of motion sickness to that day, not as bad just as bad or worse, that's the go to guide for how sensitive is my calibration on this day. I live in Australia so we travel far and wide in this country and travel for work. I take a pillow on all my trips but it's not for sleeping on its for sitting on so I don't get motion sick, or at least its comfortable.

We hail from the Southern Caribbean island of Dominica. My wife usually gets motion sickness when travelling on a boat or ferry. We are planning a family cruise next summer, and she is elated to hear that she can just use a wrist band instead of taking pills, which gets her very drowsy during the trip and up to a day after the trip. She is happy to know that she will not be sleeping through the cruise, and is looking forward to really enjoying an ocean trip for the first time. I will definitely share these tips with my many cruise clients looking to book shore excursions with us on our island, Dominica.

Only time I was ever seasick was on my honeymoon back in '89 on the Star Princess immediately after Hurricane Hugo. Fortunately I brought Dramamine with us and we had a central inside cabin. Have never had a problem since, but always take Dramamine or Meclizine (over the counter) with me... just in case as I can suffer from Vertigo occasionally too!

I’ve only ever had motion sickness while pregnant, but one cruise was extremely rocky and while in the Princess Theatre I thought I was going to lose my lunch! I didn’t have my sea bands (which are packed for every cruise) but I remembered someone once telling me to put my head between my knees. This was quite a feat as the chairs in the theatre don’t leave much room for even knees. But it helped enough to let it pass so I could walk upstairs to get my trusty Sea bands. We’re hail from Dallas, Texas, USA!

This past August - Crossing the Gulf of Alaska - 18 hours (thru the night) of rocking back and forth with 10 ft waves and 40 - 50 mph winds. Was my first cruise and conditions like this was my biggest fear ... So talk about facing your fear and doing it anyway (what choice did I have?)... My sea sickness brought on dizziness and terrible headache, but my 15 year old daughter had the nausea. We mad it thru and were glad it was calm when we got to College Fjord. The Captain said these conditions in the Gulf are usually rare as Alaska is one of the smoothest cruises you can take, but they ran into that kind of weather crossing the gulf 3 times last summer - and we were one of the lucky ones to experience it. I luckily don’t get motion sickness, but my husband is another story! He loves fishing on boats, cruising, the ocean, etc... but he gets sea sick even while floating around in the pool 😲. I have problems with motion sickness in cars on planes and not surprisingly on ships. On my first cruise I made sure I was prepared. I had sea bands on prior to embarking and some pills that were prescribed. The sea bands cut off the circulation LOL So I had to take them off but before embarking and every morning except port day I took a pill. Returning to the ship after port felt fine until we stated moving . I stumbled my way back to the cabin took a pill and hugged the bed. Lesson learned always be prepared. also a crew member I was speaking with told me that green apples help with seasickness ! Explains why there's always apples around . Tampa, Fl USA

We are from NC. My wife gets mildly sea sick. We always get a cabin low and in the middle of the ship. We were on the NCL Jade on one cruise in 20ft seas. Yes. I saw the water in the pool rise up around 5ft before going back down into the pool when I went up to the Lido to get my wife some coffee. After my wife had her coffee in our cabin, we traveled up to the Lido deck for breakfast from our first floor cabin. As the elevator went up each level, the greener she got. I mean, she literally turned green. I never saw anything like it. Once we got to the Lido deck she turned and quickly went back down to her cabin. She took some Dramamine daytime and waited for it to kick in. I stayed up on the Lido deck and had a nice big breakfast.

Green apples work well for relief, if you get sick, one thing most folks do is keep from eating. If you are aware sick, eat a bit, an empty stomach actually makes it worse.

I get motion sick on boats planes and in cars. My first cruise i had an entire pharmacy of motion sickness remedies, ginger pills, ginger gum, dramamine, patches and seabands. The only thing that made a dent in my nausea were the seabands. I would love to try the reliefband 2.0 for my upcoming cruise in May 2019.

My first cruise was 1995 and we were on celebrity Horizon going to Bermuda. We were caught in a hurricane I believe it was Iris. The ship was rocking so much that everyone including me was getting sea sick. My cousin who took us to the port slipped sea bands into my purse. I found them when we unpacked. My husband I slipped them on and with in 2 hours we felt much better.

    Hi I'm Diyana from Malaysia.
I've once visited Sydney in 2014 on a trip and it is the most memorable experienced I've ever had. Me and my friends spent 5 days in Sydney, and on the last day we decided to have dinner on a cruise at Sydney Harbour.
When we first step onto the boat it feels amazing, (it is our first time to be on a cruise), everyone is feeling estatic as we get to dine while being entertained on board and also cruising along Sydney Harbour overlooking Sydney city at night.
As we all settled in on our dining table the boat started to move. And due to its small size rather than other boats that is twice the size that we are in, it started to rock slowly left and and right because of the waves at the marina. After the tour around Sydney Harbour and taking a lot of pictures for about an hour, it is time for the boat to return to the dock and for all passengers to have dinner. Once the boat have safely dock, we started to feel the left and right motions again, and this is the time where things get interesting.
The food that was served to us is amazing and looks delicious and we are definitely hungry when the food was served to us. Unfortunately a few of us couldn't handle the motion sickness and that including me as we were sitting at the left side of the boat where we can feel the slow rocking motions of the boat. For another group of people that were sitting in the middle area they weren't really affected by the motions. Me and my friends really couldn't eat anything other than drinking because of the nausea but the other group of people didn't have any problem enjoying their dinner that night.
Once the dinner is over me and my friends end up leaving the boat with empty stomach, nausea and couple hundred dollar bills spent on untouched dinner.

Our first cruise was to Ensenada on a weekend cruise...I brought dramamine with me just in case...I didn't need it the whole weekend so when we packed our bags on our last night and put them out to be picked up, I included my damamine...during the night due to a mini hurricane we started rocking n rolling and I felt sooo sick...hubby got up to see if the luggage had been picked up and sure enough it had so I pretty much suffered through the rest of the early morning. About 5 yrs ago, I developed vertigo. This past November we went on what would be our 2nd cruise, I bought the sea bands, brought dramamine and meclizine...I started feeling sick a few hours after we sailed..the sea bands hadn't helped, neither did the meclizine. By morning, I was still feeling the motion but took dramamine and we did a couples massage..felt much better after...Our 3rd cruise is coming up in December...I'm going to look into the upgraded sea bands and pack all the drugs and ginger too..We're from the U.S...Love your videos!

We're in the USA, in GA. I never thought I'd have a problem because I love the rocking of the ocean but I've had sea sickness on two different cruises. On the first, I hadn't eaten before boarding and we weren't served dinner (or anything) that day until around 5pm. (Back in the 80s things were different). I got so ill standing in the long line to enter the MDR on that small ship. On our third cruise last year, we had a starboard aft cabin so we'd be able to see the wake views. My second day on the ship I felt horrible so I took a Bonine pill (I'd heard they were milder than Dramamine) and it made me so dizzy I decided not to take anything else. Luckily, I had no more issues on that cruise. We're doing the same thing next year (an aft starboard side cabin) so I'll have to try something else, if I have trouble again.

Hi my family and I are from Miami, Florida. This past July our family cruised for the first time ever to Alaska. We didn’t know what to expect especially since we didn’t know which one of us was going to get seasick. And we had heard that Alaska has rough seas. I bought over at Amazon some non-drowsy motion sickness tablets just in case. The first day on our cruise we didn’t feel any sickness but our first night we felt the boat rocking. So we woke up early in the morning we took some tablets but it was not working for my 14 year old daughter, she was feeling really sea sick. We went to eat breakfast and her face just looked like she was about to give up and this was only the beginning of our cruise. We ended up going to the store inside the cruise where they sell the sea bands motion sickness and a couple minutes after she put them on she was feeling like a new person. At times my husband will feel seasick and he would put her sea bands on and he will feel great but then my daughter will start feeling bad. So my husband toughed it out and the whole time my daughter had to wear those wristbands because without them she would get really seasick. Thank God for those wristbands, we had a great time on our cruise, specially being first timers.

Hello CruiseTipsTV team, new subscriber, but I am watching your previous videos and finding amazing info, thank you for all the time you put in. Hubby and I are preparing for our first cruise in December. Hubby gets motion sickness riding in the car if he is not driving, amusement parks, and airplanes, but he is such a good sport and when I suggested we try a cruise he was ready to try it for me, and so we could experience it together. These tips came just in time as I have been researching tips to prevent seasickness. We will be flying from Utah to Miami so I really want to make it a fun experience for him.

First timers here. Been dreaming about going in a cruise ship for 15+ years. Been with my boyfriend for a little bit over a year and he has fear to heights (no airplane traveling) 😣 on the other hand, road trips make me sick as well🤦🏻‍♀️ Therefore a cruise ship most work for us in order to do some World traveling our way. You can imagine I’m crossing my fingers on it. And definitely trying to figure out what motion sickness product to use, bcs I’m definitely not going to risk it. We want to make sure we have the time of our life, and hopefully for this one to be the first one of many🛳 Your video of Ocho Rios has me going crazy😍 must go there. Have me in your prayers so my boyfriend deal with been on the ship perfectly 🤞🏻I’m exited but at the same time fear the result 😫😁🤷🏻‍♀️🥇🛳
*You guys are awesome, hopefully we can say one day that we are on our cruise ship #30+ 😊

I live in the United States, January this year was my very first cruise. I get motion sickness pretty easily when I’m in the car if I’m not the driver, I don’t know why I thought a cruise would be any different but I waited till I had any symptoms before I decided to take Dramamine. It helped a little bit almost every night I was in bed really early or took lots of naps because I was so sea sick. I figured if I was sleeping I wasn’t feeling nauseous. I have since cruised again and learned my lesson. I try to stay ahead of the sickness and take Dramamine before the cruise. I want to try the sea bands but I am afraid it won’t be enough for me

I wore my sea bands constantly. We had a nightmare cruise (ER visits for a pinched nerve for him and a really bad concussion for me from a low clearance cave!). With seasickness anyway, the concussion only made it worse and we didn't leave our cabin for several days due to our injuries. By the end of our (first) cruise (June 2018, RC Allure) I had tan lines (and bruises) from sea bands. I heart sea bands!

I don't get motion sickness on land, but I do tend to get it mildly when cruising on occasion. As a result, I rely on the Transderm Scop patches that go behind your ear. I usually put one on the first day and change it about halfway through a seven-day cruise (I usually only need one on shorter cruises.). When my husband and I cruised in 2016, I followed my normal procedure--put one behind my ear on the first night of the cruise, then took it off and put a second behind my other ear on about day four. Apparently, there may have been too much of the medication in my system, because that evening I couldn't read ANYTHING on ANYTHING! I didn't really FEEL any different, but my vision was so blurry that my husband had to choose what I ordered for dinner that night! LOL! I've never had an experience like that, so it was quite strange. We're headed out on the Carnival Dream on 12/23/18, and I can promise you that when I take my first patch off, I won't put a second one on unless I need it!

I took my first cruise in July 2014 to Alaska. On day 2 we had some rough seas and even though I was taking Dramamine, I still felt so awful and nauseous couldn’t go above deck 4. The Dramamine did nothing for me. Luckily my mom who was cruising with us had some prescription patches and I used one of those. By the evening the seas calmed down and I was fine. I’ve taken 2 more cruises since then (with one more this coming May) and I always just wear the patches now so I don’t have to worry.

I live in So Cali, USA. I suffer from Meniers disease, an inner ear disorder that causes episodes of vertigo, “spinning “. (which is considered a rare disorder of fewer than 200,000 U.S. cases a year, and not curable, only managed.) These episodes can occur any time and are debilitating, for me at times. I am able to cruise in spite of this through several different remedies. I take prescription Dramamine, prescription allergy nasal spray, and allergy medication, a few days before an activity that I know will give me issues like flying, small boating, cruising. I have also learned to pay attention to my body when I feel like an episode is coming on and take action quickly and that usually will prevent a full on episode. (Kinda like those who get migraines). I also watched a previous RUclips video that you fine folks posted about seasickness, and I purchased the sea~bands. On my 1st ever cruise, November 2017, and had absolutely no problems whatsoever!! I can’t say if it was one particular remedy, since I was doing all of the above as well, but I’m not chancing it this coming November when we go on our 2nd cruise. I’m using my arsenal of remedies. Lol. I appreciate this channel so much and you all have inspired us to try cruising~ and we’ll keep on 🛳

The first time I experienced seasickness I was 25 visiting my friend in the UK. She and her family resided in the East Midlands which typically is very mountainous for the winding roads. I first began my trip by riding in the back seat after an hour or two of whiny roads I became very ill and for the next two weeks I had to ride in the front seat through the duration of my trip there that's putting her mom in the backseat LOL since then if I know I'm going to fly need to ride in the backseat of a car or cruise I now get the prescription and have no problems thank goodness. I sleep per your instructions I live in the state of Virginia!
