Adventures of Sonic The Hegdehog and SaTam were supposed to be in the same continuity with Adventures being a prequel. Also there's hope of them SaTam characthers returning in Sonic Prime.
Your review style is very similar to Top Hat Gaming. I liked your reviews better than his, thus far.
Have you ever thought about covering the Sony CD-i? Yes, the SONY CD-i. While Phillips made the majority of CD-i units and Magnavox had their name on some of the other CD-i units, SONY (same Sony as the Playstation) made a CD-i that was released. I think there is only ONE video on RUclips covering the Sony CD-i (one guy who managed to get a working Sony CD-i and showed it off in a RUclips video). I also remember the official CD-i magazine covering it (Issue # 2 of the a CD-i magazine even had the Sony CD-i on their cover. The CD-i version of 7th Guest, which it's PC version won PC game of the year, is primarily on the cover of issue # 2 from very late 1993, but the Sony CD-i is shown on the right side of the same cover. It's similar to the portable Phillips CD-i unit, but has several differences, especially when you compare photos of the Sony CD-i and the portable version of the Phillips CD-i side-by-side you'll see differences). CD-i magazines can be found online to read if you can't find them physically on ebay. They offer A LOT of info on the CD-i in general which I don't think I've ever heard mentioned in any RUclips video.
love this vid but you made a mistake its mark sirney spelt cerney not mark kerny

I would have killed for a Sonic game based off Sonic SatAM and the Sonic Archie comics. I loved those stories and characters, even if people call it cringe.
Funnily enough, the only game Bunnie Rabbot, Rotor, and Sally ever appreared in was Sonic Spinball.
Screw the people who call it cringe. Many people love these stories, so what makes the haters' opinions meaningful? Not much. The show has faults, sure, everything in the Universe has, but it's not right to call it bad just because they don't like it.
I loved the Archie ones, I always remember there being a black robotic tentacles enemy that used to chase sonic but can’t recall the name of them
Gotta be honest, I kinda wish this'd been green-lit. A stealth game based on the darker SatAM elements could've been a fun addition to the franchise.
Sonic Adventure should have been a console franchise based on the SatAM series and Archie comics from issues 30-50.
I would love to have a game that is based on the sonic SATAM
I'd trade Sega back sonic 4

I like the idea of something with the visual style and music of the Sonic anime film, that world was really cool, with The Land of the Sky and The Land of Darkness
The dialog was hokey, but it was still better than pretty much all of the other Sonic cartoons by a lot.
@@knightshousegames explain more
@@elementalheroneos2757 Oh, have you not heard of this?
Apparently sometime in the mid 90s Sega did a short 2 episode Anime OVA style thing with Sonic that was released in the west as a movie.
It's probably the best portrayal of Metal Sonic for sure, but the world it takes place in is just so cool, like one of the areas looks like a flooded, destroyed ruin of New York City. They even use a warp zone to get past a tough area in the story, so they incorporated the mechanics of the game into the story in a meaningful way. And the soundtrack is awesome.
It has...quirks....Knuckles wears a cowboy hat for some reason, and you have a couple little scenes which appeal mostly to the perverted anime viewers of the late 90s, and the dialog gets mocked a lot, even though I think the story they were telling was really good. But overall I think it's probably the best animated interpretation of Sonic.
I'm sure you can find it on RUclips, most people refer to it as the Sonic OVA
lumping in Sonic Adventures with Sonic 06 :/
people have a lot of irrational hatred for anything outside of the originals and Sonic Mania and Sega regularly takes the wrong message from that.
Shadows' reputation as an edgelord came largely after Sonic Adventure 2 with his own game. The Adventure games had actual character arcs. I grew up with the 16 bit games and I loved the Adventure titles.
I could understand thinking the Shadow video game and stuff is cringe and over the top, but the character itself? Not really, he's just like any dark rival you would see in any other kids' media, like Vegeta.
yeh but every 3d sonic game is janky as hell..it just feels cheap.
the 2d ones are a lot more solid and doesn't feel like a cut scene while you play
its too late bro. the damage has been done for over a decade now.
Yeah, she makes the uneducated assumption people like us who grew up on the originals don't like the newer stuff. She's missing out big time, sadly.
@@doctoreggmannegaful I think it was just a joke.. I hate playing sonic due to the fanbase acting like kpop stans
Trivia: In the USA, there are three Sonic the Hedgehog cartoons that were created by DiC: Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog (aka Sonic SatAM) and Sonic Underground.
And Adventures was supposed to be a prequel to Sonic SaTam.
Who also produced the Super Mario Bros. Super Show
@@Invidente7 Actually, Adventures of Sonic, Sonic SatAM and Sonic Underground have different canons and they are not connected to one another. Adventures of Sonic is part of the Adventures of Sonic universe, Sonic SatAM is part of the Sonic SatAM universe and Sonic Underground is part of the Sonic Underground universe.

The new games are fucking terrible though.
Edgy the hedgy is now my new favourite name for shadow.
@@adamberthiaume309 yes, in terms of quality sure, but Rouge and Shadow are both great characters
A Sonic game that looks like a cross between Prince of Persia and Metal Gear, interesting!
Wasn't the SATAM crew in Sonic Pinball? I swear there's a bonus section where you destroy robotization tubes, and each of the cast members pops out.
Yup, Sally appears in her pink fur and black hair design.
I remember the Sega sonic games well, the cartoon with Sonic and Sally will always hold a special place in my heart.
I remember the cartoon and the comics. It's a shame Sega abandoned all that lore, it was all so captivating for me as child. But that game really didn't look good. I like current Sonic lore, Edgy the Hedgy and all (lol), just wish they could do more with all those characters.
Also, pretty amazing to know that at some point Naka and Cerny worked together.
Hence why Cerny went on to create Sonic's Ass (Crash Bandicoot) inspired by Sonic and the efforts to bring him to the third dimension in 32 bits.
I love the satam characters.
Me too. They seriously need more love and respect.
10:18 Was that commentary really necessary? I'm trying to watch a video documentary on a cancelled Sonic project, I'm not looking for someone to insult some of my favorites characters out of the blue when no one asked for it. (I already have Twitter for that)
Other than this off-putting part, it was a well documented video, good job.
It's a joke
@@LadyDecade Yeah, a joke at the expense of genuinely well written and beloved characters. I don't see how that's funny.

Idk, Sally can sneak but she can't buzzsaw. Maybe she could still throw rings, and as a concession about the buzzsaw thing give her some abilities or two with her AI-PDA Nicole.
Like she'd be used more for deeper infiltration levels, with hacking door locks and augmenting capabilities of digital binoculars and stuff like that.
Maybe some levels, you'd switch between them like in Mania+.
I wonder if Chris Whitehead has heard of Sonic 16...
a lot of people that grew up with the 16 bit sonic games love sonic adventure 1 and 2

This girl has no idea how many people she pissed off by saying "Sonic SatAM is cringey", calling Shadow "Edgey The Hedgey" Sonic SatAM is widely regarded by most fans for having some of the best story structure in the franchise, as well as the best Robotnik.
There were more then a handful of times she blasted out things that would piss off fans and/or offend them. Ofc we are all entitled to make our own opinions, as is she.
SatAM was the best. My assumption is that Lady did not watch the series as a kid like I did... I was obsessed back then.
She's obviously not a big fan of sonic
Considering she said the show mostly “slapstick based humor”, just tells me she didn’t watch the show. Perhaps she was thinking of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog instead.

I wonder if there were any unreleased PS1 mascot games. Perhaps a crash Bandicoot game no one has heard of 🤔😎
There were Unreleased Crash games but on the 7th gen
The game actually looked good with those graphics and mechanics, but it wouldn't be a good Sonic game.
The sonic redesign in sonic spinball apparently caused such a storm that made many sega Japanese programmer's to walk out, claiming that the sonic in sonic spinball was so badly designed that he had lost his character. The Japanese sonic design is really stark comparison wise on box art and the majority of the box arts was the Japanese "sonic " looking more less detailed and his spikes was radically different. The sonic adventure design was a huge middle finger at the American designs and a final "go home" to the yanks. Things got violent many a time apparently. I kinda do prefer sonics 1/2 design to the spinball design, sonic 3 / s&k was a refining look. Each to there own. Another absolutely outstanding video look at Mr sonic!!!
Sonic 3 is his best look imo
Sonic SatAM isn't cringe, it was awesome for its time. It had darker, more serious themes than most cartoons back in the day. If remade today as a more up-to-date cartoon, with bigger budget and with what is considered darker, more serious plot nowadays - I believe it'd be a great cartoon.
Also don't diminish Sally to a simple deviantart material. She was an outstanding female character. Maybe a bit too perfect, but a fitting foil for a flawed protagonist. Of course it's easy to look back almost 30 years ago and see flaws, but considering the times, the constraints of budget and the DIC's obsession with more popular Power rangers, Ben Hurst's vision for SatAM was great. Those DICs didn't even let him finish the plot with intended 3rd season. He actually had a finished script and was really passionate about it. He would try to pitch it to higher ups all his life, but sadly never got greenlit.
This is the most sensible post here.
I wish Sega Reboots the Freedom Fighter as it's Own Franchise as a Teen Rated Game.
Highly doubt that would happen
Imagine a Sonic/Rocket Knight team up game!
sonic 2 for snes xd
a hack of sparkster
(of course that's the closest on existance)
Imagine how cool it would be if companies had some kind of archive where they still had the code to all of the projects that got terminated over the years, and they decided to release it all to the fans, and say "We're not ever going to finish these games, but want them out there. Go for it".
Sega was high for the Megadrive in Europe, Brazil and USA, but the real high was with the Saturn in Japan, it was even better than the n64 over there. I know that many fans prefer the Megadrive but my heart is with the Saturn.
There is so many prototype games that we want so much. For example a game called Monica no Shiro was discovered only 1 month ago ( but still no uploads however for the fans).
The Master System was bigger than the NES in Europe and South America. Especially the UK, France and Brazil. The master system is the longest running console in history thanks to Brazil.
Tbh, I feel that, as long as if it was seen as a “Gaiden” or spinoff kinda title, it could have maybe gotten some traction. The gameplay reminds me of “cinematic platformers” common in the 1990s (Flashback, Blackthorne, Abe’s Oddysey, Prince of Persia, etc) which with the Sonic property and right execution coulda made some sales, maybe even develop a following.
From the look of the video, I'd put it more as a comparison to the Mario RPG type divergence and would be the game tie in for SatAM since the other sonic series at the time pretty much spawned the cast of Mean Bean Machine...
Wasn't Prince of Persia from the 80s, though?
The theory that Comix Zone is what spawned out of Sonic 16 is pretty brilliant, I never made the connection.
It would be freaking awesome if Jaleel White did the voice for future Sonic products (games, movies, shoes ,etc.)
You know what might've saved this, conceptually? If they pitched it as a Princess Sally/Freedom Fighters game - maybe on a rescue mission to save Sonic who's been captured or something. I mean, as pointed out, the gameplay is so far removed from traditional Sonic stuff that it's weird to see _him_ doing this stuff. You take another character from that universe though? One who doesn't have super speed? Then it could work. There are a handful of sidescrollers with stealth elements like Mark of the Ninja or the GBA Splinter Cell games that show there's something there, I think... just not for a game where you're supposed to doing this stuff as Sonic :P
Referring to SatAM as cringe inducing? Sounds like someone might still be a bit bitter that the Fleetway run never got an animated adaptation.
Should've gotten a game adaptation, imagine if the night stages of Sonic Unleashed were a Chaos Force-possessed Super Sonic becoming the new God of Destruction and killing everything in sight instead of the Were-Ristar.
I grew up in that era, I am super frustrated they never released Sonic 16, I think it was a great idea. I really wish Sega would come around to the SatAM side.
You continue to cover topics I have never heard of. Quality content. 👍
You can't talk about Sonic 16 without talking about Sonic Mars!
That was excellent. Never knew this existed, amazing stuff. Thanks for crediting me here too 👊 ✊
I love the music in Ice Cap Zone.
This actually look really good since I had a lot of love for Sonic SatAM. Don’t really see how this show was cringe and I think Lady Decade might have mixed up the Sonic cartoons. If this had come out it could have kept Sonic SatAM going and maybe a proper ending.
Don't know if you're from the UK or not, but here Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was much more popular than Sonic SatAM. I know in the US Sonic SatAM was more high profile than Adventures and built up a notable cult following, but here Adventures got a much bigger push. It's a bit of a cultural difference between US and UK.
@@IgorsDen yeah, I only saw the cartoon with the comedic tone... It was also dubbed, so that was neat! And apparently, we also had a dubbed version of Sonic Underground, and our version of the song is pretty well loved here in Portugal!
@@IgorsDen Oof. Adventures of Sonic was super cringy and full of so much nonsense. Sonic SatAM was the much better show and storyline. SatAM made Sonic genuinely cool and edgy
"Full of so much nonsense" isn't a demerit for everyone, and similarly "edgy" isn't always a plus
@@IgorsDen from the US while I enjoyed some of AoStHH I liked the story telling in Sonic SatAM more it definitely felt more in line with the games much like the Sonic OVA loosely based on Sonic CD.
Dang, an rpg style sonic game back then would have been interesting!
Yeah, it really would have. Thanks for whiffing that distinction of being the first, Bioware!
Love that you always hit on obscure tidbits like this!
It's really great to have our history explained like this by Counselor Troi

Though check out the advert, the Indian Dating advert chick is far more a likeness to LD! if I didn't know better I would say that LD has cloned the look on purpose. Just randomly appearing next to her actual legit video.
Ha. Never noticed until you pointed this out.
You'd think that someone who researched the history of Sonic, would know that Shadow was never meant to be an edgelord. That's just the memes and Sonic Boom. And I guess the IDW comics. In fact even in the Shadow the Hedgehog game, where he's arguably the edgiest, Shadow ends up befriending the G.U.N. commander and undergoing G.U.N. training. And in Sonic 06 Shadow is actually working with gun and has a beautiful friendship with Rouge and Omega. And yeah, Sonic 06 has the infamous kiss, time to get over it cause it's been 15 years, but it had more going for it than Sonic Colors with its braindead "humor" and the 30 seconds levels lengthened by lots and lots of looping around and waiting around for platforms to move slowly. Sonic 06 could have been amazing if developed properly, Sonic Colors was flawed from the start.
Had no idea of the existence of this unreleased game! Looks so cool! Love this video and your narration :) Thanks!

I love your channel and find your videos informative and entertaining. Congrats on your current success! I have a suggestion for a topic. Way back in the early 1980’s there was a sequel planned for the console called the Odyssey2 in the states and the Philips Videopac G7000 in Europe. This console would have been called the Odyssey3 in America but was never released. However, in select countries in Europe this was briefly released as the Videopac G7400. This console is extremely sought after by fans of the Odyssey2 and I would love to see a video discussing the G7400 and why it was so short lived.

Great video again LadyDecade! Love your work!!
The further Sega veers from reviving the SatAM/Archie canon, the more lost Sonic feels to me. If only the present obstacles just dropped off the face of the earth... #SaveWesternSonic
Smashing them out of the park lately. Nice vid.
Great video! Even when it's about a small game with little information you're able to make a great informative video about it!
Just a little nitpick is that Mark Cerny's last name is pronounced with the C sounding like an S.
I happen to love the Saturday morning cartoon, and the Archie comics series. I would have loved Sonic 16.
Had it been introduced and been successful, Sonic 16 looks like it could have laid the groundwork for a good 3D Sonic game that didn't rely on Sonic going fast all the time.
With most 3D Sonic games that we got it looks like developers really assumed that Sonic had to go fast most of the time which limited their options for gameplay in 3D.
A 3D Sonic like Sonic 16 would have allowed for more strategic gameplay more along the lines of what Super Mario 64 was able to do.
Sonic 16, even though it would have played differently than regular Sonic games, was a missed opportunity for Sega to move the Sonic franchise in a new direction. A direction that it might have needed to take in order to make Sonic work well in 3D.
Seems like a majority of Sega Super-Fans who are very nostalgic I find on yt have a funny accent. Freedom. Seriously tho, cool vid. Subbed.
edit: Roger Hector has some of the most amazing jowls ever seen.
Funny that this video mentions a ring attack; it has been found that a few game genie codes can be used in a Sonic 3 beta to create a ring toss move (which DOESN'T use up rings!).
I came into the Sonic fandom BECAUSE of SatAM when I discovered it a few years later in reruns. I still hold it as the gold standard of Sonic storytelling. I would have loved to play this game, and still believe a game with a playable SatAM cast should have happened at least once.
It would have been a great addition to the Sonic franchise. It's likely that 3D bonus levels and speedy classic levels would have been mandated, giving gamers the Sonic they knew.
Sally Acorn should make an Only Fans! Sorry, I'm just trolling over a video of yours I watched yesterday, lol.
I want Top Hat Gamer to make an Onlyfans.. Yeeaaaahhhhhh!!! 👀👀

Eeehm okay? Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 are not cringe. I may not grew up with the Classic era but Sonic 1 is still my first sonic game so means technically I grew up with the Genesis games but sorry I like sonic Adventure. I played both SA1 and 2 in 2018 and 17 for the first time and my god people literally bashed on these two titles just because it was cool to bash on it.

A Westernized SegaSonic even had a Robotnik Sprite to match his SATAM Appearance.
Edgy the Hedgy is a great name for my pet rat, and I thank you for it.
Sonic SatAM was so dark and edgy for the time. I still love that cartoon to this day and totally wished the game would've come out. True Sonic fans wouldn't have cared if it was full blast speed ahead if they were real fans of the characters themselves.

you’re doing an excellent job with bringing up info on different media. anyways, I’m wondering if there’s anymore lost game media from sega.
Sonic SatAM: THE GAME! I would probably be an even bigger Sonic fan today if this had been developed and released. Unfortunately, Sonic SatAM cartoon series is one of those early Sega of America properties that just didn't vibe with everyone. It's definitely got its cult following (I'm one of them), but it wasn't widely accepted to be the main Sonic folklore, which I think is an absolute shame, as the official lore eventually developed in Sonic Adventure and onward is complete trash compared to Sonic SatAM in my opinion.
It's pronounced "Serny", not "Kerny". 😂
It's pronounced "Mark Sony", these days. Creator of modern PlayStation consoles and most importantly, Knack. Please give us Knack 3, Mr Mark Cerny, giver of all good gaming. Amen. 🙏
