Great trip. Finally another brand new Ferry in 2025 has been launched. Looks like this brand new Ferry is focused on vehicle with only one deck dedicated for passenger, and the variety of rooms looks simplified, no more luxurious or big room available on board. And yeah, looks like the future start now when you realise no onboard restaurant, only vending machines available with oven. When I see the previous ship who running on the route included in this video, I was hoping the ship can get second life somewhere, but later, the subtitle said "it has second life as full Cargo ship" which is a bit disappointing but acceptable since it's still operating. Can't wait for second ship will be launched in Spring time.
Thank you for your accurate comments again. This ship is mainly designed for use by truck drivers, so it probably has no restaurant, and the shops and cabins are simple to reduce costs. Tourists on the same route should use the “Sapporo” and “Furano”, which depart in the afternoon. The “Daisetsu” will be reborn as a RORO ship for the same ferry company. I felt exactly as you did. Definitely focused on vehicles and cargo. No large atrium or restaurant. Slightly disappointing but understandably things change. Otherwise a clean, well thought out ship.

@capsulejapan I noticed from the boarding approach that it was different. Usually passenger ferries you walk straight into a "lobby" when you board. It's pretty cool to be one of the first to sail on this new ship. The "Daisetsu" will be experiencing new seas in it's new capacity but the echoes of all the people that boarded will always be part of it.🐺

5:18 That is a beautiful model of さんふらわあ5. It became a very important ship in the Philippine later in its life. I was lucky to have gone aboard when it sailed as スーパーフェリー10 in the Philippine. It seems that long distance ferry with low passenger capacity is becoming the norm now. The new 新日本海 ferry that will be launched this December will only have around 200 passengers. It is sad.

That fitness room might not be necessary for this ship. It seems that this ship has reduced costs by keeping its facilities simple. Passengers should understand this and experience a wonderful trip.😸
Thank you for a detailed review. I found it extremely surprising there were no restaurants and shops at the terminal, as well as no restaurant onboard! For a tourist possibly suffering from a jetlag and tiredness it's not good news. Great to have a public bath, though.
They focused mainly in acomodating the cargo and drivers with this new ship and less room for tourists. I guess they weren't so many tourists all year round, so they resume more to cargo transport. That brings the most money in.
Nice video! Wow, it seems very luxurious because it so brand new and 100% clean! I would love to ride a brand new ferry lol. Really impressive accoutrements, pet facilities inside and outside, lots of vending machines, lots of seating, a huge bath, a small GYM! Everything immaculate, well lit by lots of ceiling lights... America does not have ferrys this good! I would LOVE to visit Japan! I really liked this shot at 35:30 Japan is so efficient and beautiful

The facilities on board were simple, but the design was wonderful and I had a good time. The view from the ship was also good. As you said, the smoke rising from the factory at night was impressive. It is one of the most beautiful ship I have ever seen. The livery is amazing too and the ship looks like she is the mecha of a new Japanese anime. I'm agree with people who prefer a "true" restaurant on board. Greetings from Italy.

Hi, It has been awhile. Hadn’t been feeling well for a while. Old age is settling, that’s what happens when you were young and chasing after all these girls and never catching them because they run too fast. So you end up alone and living by yourself. Being sick is no fun alone you end up thinking too much about the what if and when there is no one to take care of you when you’re ill. That’s why when I am sick it is a slow recovery. But enough of me, time for a cruise around one of my favorite countries, Japan. Chinese New Year is coming this week on January 29, It is going to be the year of the “Serpent.” 🐍 I was born in the year of the “Rabbit” the “Playboy Rabbit”. 😂 Wanted to wish you a “Happy Chinese New Year!” and thanks for sharing your vlog. I had fond memory of my days in the Navy driving that monster ship out to sea was a handful. 🙏🙏🙏 🎉🥳🧧🥂🍾💥🧨🎊 This year I am going to just have happy thoughts, so no negative thoughts because it drag the soul of the human spirit down to a mindless thought of wonder. Catch any seagulls lately? I have a taste for some cook seagulls, Chinese barbecue style. 🤣🤣🤣 Even till this day, I feel sorry for that new student that got bombshell by those nasty seagulls during lunchtime in school. She never came back. But enough of this does Tokyo have a Chinatown? I know Yokohama has a large one and I know the Japanese people like Chinese food. Also do Japanese people like to celebrate the lunar New Year with a parade? Here in the Bay Area there is a large Chinese community . We celebrate the traditional way with having the family come over to celebrate the new year at the parent’s house for Chinese New Year dinner. The New Year celebration generally lasted for two weeks and ended with a Dragon parade with all the firecrackers go off scaring off all the evil spirits. When my Aunt and Uncle was still alive they would hand out lucky money in a red money envelope called lucky money.🧧 Generally the married couple would hand out red envelope to all the kids. Some of them would give them out to single nephews and nieces if they are not married. I used to collect from them and boy do they wish I would get married so they don’t have to pay up.😂 You see if you were a kid and you get a dollar he will be happy but if you are an adult and you receive a dollar you would call them cheap. Five dollars cheap, ten dollars cheap, twenty dollars each? Okay 👍 and if they want to be their favorite Aunt and Uncle there will be a biting war as to who is your favorite Aunt and Uncles? The more money the more favorite they are, the highest I make was a couple of thousand dollars. (I must had been a popular nephew with them.) I would spend on gifts for ex-girlfriends that is why I’m so broke. 🤣🤣🤣 Anyway I talk long enough, you take care and watch out for those dam seagulls.😊

I don't want to eat seagull, but I'm surprised at your obsession with seagull. I think I'll just think about happy things this year. I'll try not to think about negative things. Japanese people don't really have any customs for the Chinese New Year. The Chinese New Year customs of the Chinese people are very interesting. The dragon parade, where they set off firecrackers to drive away evil spirits, looks like fun. In Japan, we often receive otoshidama on January 1st. Thank you. I look forward to working with you again this year. I'll be careful of seagulls and continue my travels.😸
@ I am feeling fine now. Had a cold for couple of months but not it’s getting better. I took a flu shot this year and I can up with the flu. Crazy how technology works. I am just getting old. I do have a thing about seagulls I hated them. They poop on people. Interesting about Japanese culture doesn’t believe in the lunar calendar and doesn’t celebrate the Chinese New Year. I am in my mid 70 so I reminisce a lot especially my days in the Navy. What adventures love the smell of ocean breeze and smoke from the ship.😂 Will be seeing more of your adventures, take care stay safe and don’t get bomb my you know what! 😂

This is about as “un-Sunflower” as a passenger ship can get. No restaurant, no entrance escalator, messed up livery and no Sunflower song. Btw, I have sailed the Sunflower 2 and 5 when I was a kid. Of course this was back in the 70’s.

Sunflower 5 ended up in the Philippines and became M/V Mabuhay 1 of William Lines. Following merger between William, Gothong and Aboitiz it became M/V Superferry 10. Her sister ship Sunflower 8 also ended up the Philippines as M/V Princess of New Unity of Sulpicio Lines.

Are you referring to that egg-shaped white object? That is a handrail. It is egg-shaped because it might hit the heads or bodies of passengers who have fallen over due to the rocking of the ship.😸
As I explained a little in the video, there is a dedicated area for truck drivers, and ordinary passengers are not allowed in there. There are not many people in the video, but there were actually more passengers.😸

夜の大洗駅周辺はお店も少ないですが、ぜひ食料をたくさん持ち込んでくださいね。大洗駅からは港まで住宅街ですが、確かに女性ひとりだと少し危ないかもです。徒歩15分くらいですが、タクシーもありかもしれません😸

お疲れ様です。私は新造船かむいに乗船したいだけでCAPSULEさんがすれ違ったさっぽろに乗船し大洗まで行き、本日25日大洗発のかむいに乗船し帰ってきました。
さっぽろもドック明けでピカピカ綺麗でしたが、かむいも良かったです。大洗発だと陸路側になるので1人掛けの椅子に座ってのんびりまったり良い時間でした。
「さっぽろ」と「かむい」を乗り比べるのもまた面白い体験ですよね。ドック明けの「さっぽろ」、きっとぴかぴかだったのでしょうね。私も乗ってみたいです😸

船は造られた時を色濃く映す鏡のようですね。かむいは、堅実で機能的で、個人のリズムで快適に過ごせる仕様になってるように感じました。レストランがないのはさみしいですが、フードロスに貢献していて、現地での飲食を楽しみに待つ期待感が膨らむように感じました。濃い青と木目調の色合いは落ちつく印象です。
確かにこの船は今の日本の空気を映し出しているのかもしれませんね。冷食自販機のみは少し寂しいですが、それでも快適な旅でした。船内も落ち着く雰囲気で、ずっと海を見ていたくなります😸

時間帯的にもレジャーというより運搬を重視した船だと思うのですが、内装は機能的な上にビジュアルもスマートでカッコいい大人の船！(ある意味キッズルームが似合わない💦)時間があれば一度は乗ってみたいです。
いつも船だけではなく、最寄りの街や港、ターミナルも丁寧に紹介して背景を大事にする動画が大好きです。船だけでは動けない、裏方さん達の小さな力が沢山あるからあの大きな船体は動ける…会社の仕事と同じですね。

大洗で展示されている さんふらわあ5の模型には
甲板にプールがありますね。
昔は非日常を体験できるフェリーに乗ることがレジャーだったのでしょうね。
私の記憶違いでなければ さんふらわあ5（8かも?）には 秘密戦隊ゴレンジャーも一度乗船してますね。
変身前のキレンジャー達がプールでくつろいでました😊❤
新造船でのフェリー旅、とても快適で楽しめました。トラックドライバーさん向けが主体なので設備は簡潔ですが、それもまた楽しい経験でした。深夜便は乗り場へのアクセスに難もありますが、大洗駅からは意外と近いですよ。あと翌日は夜明け前から日没までずっと海なので、景色が楽しめます。私も展望通路で海を見ながらずっと過ごしてました。船室は寝るだけと割り切ってもいいかもしれませんね。
サンフラワー5は日本での引退後、フィリピンの海を航行していたそうです。キレンジャーの変身前とはまたすごい経験をされましたね。古き良き時代のフェリー旅だったのでしょうね😸
5:18 That is a beautiful model of さんふらわあ5. It became a very important ship in the Philippine later in its life. I was lucky to have gone aboard when it sailed as スーパーフェリー10 in the Philippine.
It seems that long distance ferry with low passenger capacity is becoming the norm now. The new 新日本海 ferry that will be launched this December will only have around 200 passengers. It is sad.

That fitness room might not be necessary for this ship. It seems that this ship has reduced costs by keeping its facilities simple. Passengers should understand this and experience a wonderful trip.😸

かむい、待ってました。深夜便はトラックが主な顧客だからしかたないんだけど、日中まるまる船上で過ごすことを考えるともう少しだけ供食のバリエーションが欲しい気がします。
インサイドの個室はだんだん閉塞感がしんどくなってくるので、通路の椅子席が色々あるのはいいですね😊
新造船の割に、あちこちでカチャカチャ音がしていたのは揺れが大きかったせいですかね…😅
確かに3食とも自販機の冷食だと飽きそうです。次回は持ち込みの食事を用意した方がよいかもしれません。個室は狭かったですが、天井が高くて内装もきれいだったので、それほど圧迫感はありませんでした。今回はやや波が高かったようで、あちこちで振動音がしてましたね😸

Thank you for a detailed review. I found it extremely surprising there were no restaurants and shops at the terminal, as well as no restaurant onboard! For a tourist possibly suffering from a jetlag and tiredness it's not good news. Great to have a public bath, though.
They focused mainly in acomodating the cargo and drivers with this new ship and less room for tourists. I guess they weren't so many tourists all year round, so they resume more to cargo transport. That brings the most money in.

Nice video! Wow, it seems very luxurious because it so brand new and 100% clean! I would love to ride a brand new ferry lol. Really impressive accoutrements, pet facilities inside and outside, lots of vending machines, lots of seating, a huge bath, a small GYM! Everything immaculate, well lit by lots of ceiling lights... America does not have ferrys this good! I would LOVE to visit Japan!

The facilities on board were simple, but the design was wonderful and I had a good time. The view from the ship was also good. As you said, the smoke rising from the factory at night was impressive. お！待ってました。夜の出航前の風景、漆黒の闇に濃紺の船体。正面からだと「宇宙船」ですねえ。なかなか今までにない顔ですね。

こんばんは。フェリーは引退後、貨物船になることもあれば、海外へ売却されて現地の航路で別のフェリーになることもあります。「だいせつ」とのお別れは胸に来るものがありました。船の一生はとても長いですが、いつか貨物船になった姿で再会することもあるかと思います。
私はフェリーから見る朝日と夕日がとても好きです。でも朝日を見た後、朝食までの時間は船室で寝てたりもしますよ。睡眠不足ではないので、大丈夫です。次回の動画もぜひお楽しみに！😊

It has been awhile. Hadn’t been feeling well for a while. Old age is settling, that’s what happens when you were young and chasing after all these girls and never catching them because they run too fast. So you end up alone and living by yourself.
Being sick is no fun alone you end up thinking too much about the what if and when there is no one to take care of you when you’re ill. That’s why when I am sick it is a slow recovery.
But enough of me, time for a cruise around one of my favorite countries, Japan.
Chinese New Year is coming this week on January 29, It is going to be the year of the “Serpent.” 🐍

Even till this day, I feel sorry for that new student that got bombshell by those nasty seagulls during lunchtime in school.
She never came back.
But enough of this does Tokyo have a Chinatown? I know Yokohama has a large one and I know the Japanese people like Chinese food. Also do Japanese people like to celebrate the lunar New Year with a parade?
Here in the Bay Area there is a large Chinese community . We celebrate the traditional way with having the family come over
to celebrate the new year at the parent’s house for Chinese New Year dinner. The New Year celebration generally lasted for two weeks and ended with a Dragon parade with all the firecrackers go off scaring off all the evil spirits.
When my Aunt and Uncle was still alive they would hand out lucky money in a red money envelope called lucky money.🧧
Generally the married couple would hand out red envelope to all the kids. Some of them would give them out to single nephews and nieces if they are not married. I used to collect from them and boy do they wish I would get married so they don’t have to pay up.😂
You see if you were a kid and you get a dollar he will be happy but if you are an adult and you receive a dollar you would call them cheap. Five dollars cheap, ten dollars cheap, twenty dollars each? Okay 👍 and if they want to be their favorite Aunt and Uncle there will be a biting war as to who is your favorite Aunt and Uncles?
The more money the more favorite they are, the highest I make was a couple of thousand dollars. (I must had been a popular nephew with them.)
I would spend on gifts for ex-girlfriends that is why I’m so broke. 🤣🤣🤣
Anyway I talk long enough, you take care and watch out for those dam seagulls.😊

Japanese people don't really have any customs for the Chinese New Year. The Chinese New Year customs of the Chinese people are very interesting. The dragon parade, where they set off firecrackers to drive away evil spirits, looks like fun. In Japan, we often receive otoshidama on January 1st.

I am feeling fine now. Had a cold for couple of months but not it’s getting better. I took a flu shot this year and I can up with the flu. Crazy how technology works. I am just getting old. I do have a thing about seagulls I hated them. They poop on people.
Interesting about Japanese culture doesn’t believe in the lunar calendar and doesn’t celebrate the Chinese New Year. I am in my mid 70 so I reminisce a lot especially my days in the Navy. What adventures love the smell of ocean breeze and smoke from the ship.😂

お洒落で機能的に、そして快適に過ごせる造りにしながら色々なところでコストを削減していますね。
冷凍食品の自動販売機以外に軽食コーナーがあるだけでももっと良くなりそうですが今からじゃ難しいでしょうね。
さんふらわあに乗船するからにはすき家のカレーではなくさんふらわあカレーが食べたくなります。
売店にはパンもなさそうなので1、2食は持ち込みした方が良さそうですね。

This is about as “un-Sunflower” as a passenger ship can get. No restaurant, no entrance escalator, messed up livery and no Sunflower song.
Btw, I have sailed the Sunflower 2 and 5 when I was a kid. Of course this was back in the 70’s.

Sunflower 5 ended up in the Philippines and became M/V Mabuhay 1 of William Lines.
Following merger between William, Gothong and Aboitiz it became M/V Superferry 10.
Her sister ship Sunflower 8 also ended up the Philippines as M/V Princess of New Unity of Sulpicio Lines.

コロナの影響からなんだろうけど、なんでもセルフになってしまっているのは、旅の醍醐味を半減させてしまう感じがした。
確かに味気ない感じはしてしまいますね。でも船旅は船内で他の乗客やスタッフさんと触れ合う機会も多くて、旅の醍醐味はやっぱり多く感じられるかと思います😸

只因是深夜的航班,因此沒能有知名的大洗高校管樂旗隊在旁伴奏慶祝首航還真的有點可惜~
這艘船的航程歷經早餐.午餐及晚餐的時段,船上卻沒有餐廳供應現煮的美食實在是美中不足啊!
航程那麼長卻無像苫小牧---名古屋的渡輪那樣有Buffet供應,我搭過那次後至今仍令人回味不已呀~~
這些船舶主要供卡車司機使用，因此與其他渡輪有許多不同之處。 省去了額外的設備，降低了成本。 乘客也可從較低的票價中獲益。 我想從名古屋乘坐另一條船。 謝謝您的意見😸
かむい は空調が少し寒く感じたので自販機にホットドリンクが欲しかったのと、お風呂上がりのセブンティーンの自販機が欲しかった。。。
3食とも冷食だとやはり味気ないですね。せめて自販機メニューの充実は強く希望したいところです😸

Are you referring to that egg-shaped white object? That is a handrail. It is egg-shaped because it might hit the heads or bodies of passengers who have fallen over due to the rocking of the ship.😸

この苫小牧行のフェリーに40年前に乗った時は有明埠頭から房総半島をグルっと回ってから大洗に寄港して30時間かけて行ったものです。はっきり言って途中で飽きました😅
東京湾からだとぐるっと遠回りになってしまいますよね...。大洗発にはったのは必然でしょうか😸

17:36 あれは下弦の月ですよ～。真夜中に東の空に上って来た時は弦が上向きです。明け方に南中し、お昼に西の空に沈む頃には弦が下向きになりますよ😸

この船はトラックドライバーの利用を主に想定している深夜便なので、設備は最低限のものしかありません。確かに味気ない面はありますが、観光客用のフェリーにいつも乗っていると、その違いが妙に新鮮にも感じられます。私はまた乗ってみたい船です😸

This ship is mainly intended for use by truck drivers on late-night services. I think they prioritized cost-cutting. Nevertheless, I think it's a wonderful ship.😸
