I'm 15 years old and I love vintage bikes I ride a 1995 kona koa a 1997 kona kula and a 1997 trek sub species these are a few from my collection of mostly originals
Yep. That generation of XTR is hard to beat. Stunning bike. LOVE your bike content. Me aged 70..after 40 years Vegetarian, following health issue in Feb 23 started Keto…now moving towards full Carnivore. Am lean, plenty of energy, ride daily and being fat adapted- ketones for fuel can ride 160km with no sugar or carb. intake. Feel very much to be on a journey of discovery..very liberating also, can walk through a Supermarket and 99% of the ‘food’ on sale I would not eat!!!
I wanted to find myself an M950 crank set, but there are two major caveats. The first is the accompanying Octalink BB, for which asking prices on used examples tend to be $90-$120... and the other is that most of these cranks were produced in 175mm length which is honestly a bit long. 170mm examples exist, but there are fewer of them around.
Those first gen SID’s are some of the best looking forks in my opinion, don’t like the dust boots on them though. However they weren’t around in ‘89 I believe they were launched in ‘98. That aside the Klein attitude is one of the most iconic bikes from back in the early days of mtb. Great video 🫡
Klein is still one of my favorite brands also, the frame esthetics and colorways are awesome. I hope to find myself a clean Klein Mantra URT frame to build. I know URT's aren't the best design when it comes to full suspension, but I rode a 1998 Barracuda XC URT for 10 yrs. Matter of fact, I still own it and just "finished" building it up as a sort of "softtail" gravel bike with a suspension correct rigid fork.
1:11 this speaks to me. Always enjoy your builds and videos. It’s amazing how your work brings me back to me teenage years where I could hardly afford to drool over these bikes. Such good times riding with my friends. Still have my old Univega that I hope my boy will ride when he’s big enough.
When I was around 14 a local outdoors retailer had two of these in their window. This same bike and a matching orange/pink fade. Me and my riding buddy would stand for an age in slack jawed wonder (slavering down the glass) . My friend later bought a more affordable klein. Wonderful bikes. ❤❤❤
Nice build brings back memories of when I worked in a Bike shop back in 03-04. Kleins were like the holy grail of bikes back in the day. I just finished up a 2011 Niner One 9 rigid build retro mod style. Always enjoy your channel.
Those original SIDs are amazing shocks, super-light and about the perfect travel for fast gravel rides. You can also swap parts with the SID race titaniums that came out a year or two later, so you could instill a lockout if you want to fully blitz the climbs. Also, yours has the option to run a disc, which is what I've done with mine.
"This was the pinnacle of awesome bikes back in the day." I think the Pinnacle was an earlier model.. 😁 Love the vid and this has to be my fav bike you've had on yet.. Those "after" shots were just magic.
I have owned many of those later gen attitudes 96 on forward, they have many problems, They look nice and are light weight, but they almost always have deformed bb shells, as well as dents, as well as water bottle boss problems. But they look nice, and are light weight and handle great.
Definitely a drool worthy ride from the 90's I had a frame kit - frame, rigid fork and mission control bar/stem combo in moonrise linear fade. Never quite got that build finished, fell on hard times and had to sell it. :(
9.5kg! That's incredible. Is it down to the frame, or the wheels? I do understand there's some weight savings with tubeless, but I can't imagine that that's the extent of it. I've seen vintage bikes that run around 11kg and even that is considered light.
Is a resto-mod a bad thing on one of these Kleins ? I have one from a tag sale and want to do a hydraulic disc brake and air fork upgrade or should I leave it OG ?
Heresy or not, that's exactly what I did with my old early-90s orange/Yellow Attitude comp. Took off the old yellow Judy (pretty shot by then), went to a Roxshox Reba 140mm travel with disk post mounts (which I painted yellow to keep the color scheme), swapped in Crossmax disk wheels (26" of course) w 180mm rotor front, 160 rear, and XT Hydraulic disk brakes. Front was easy enough of course, but I found a special machined aluminum rear diskmount adapter for QR rear dropouts online to hold the rear brake calipers. I ran the hydraulic hose through the top bar internal route, and made a rear brake cable holder that screwed into the old V-Brake mount boss. Works great - great front shock absorbtion and awesome smooth 1-finger braking power. I then totally broke with the church-of-the-vintage-restoration and swapped in an XT 2X drivetrain with lower gearing, carbon handlebar with Ergon carbon bar ends, and a dropper post to hold my Brooks titanium leather saddle. I had a thudbuster LT for years for my seat post, but found the dropper capability more useful than the post-mount shock absorbtion, though I occasionally still miss that. So I now have a Klein where pretty much the only original part is the frame and it works as well as any modern carbon hardtail out there. Good Luck.
Hey I got a 96 Klein attitude with the MC integrated stem and bar as much as I love it , it’s a bit to low for my taste what other stem will fit I have seen Kore ones on Kleins is this period correct as I want to keep it that way and where can I find one hope you can help love the content
I have jonesing about Klein bikes since the first time I saw one in a bike shop in Victoria BC internal cable were voodo magic in the 90’s love the colours everything about them was ahead of their time to bad trek killed them
Given the absence of a rear canti hanger and M950 groupset, it looks like a ‘96. Absolutely stunning. At 22 lbs with a long travel fork that’s ridiculously light. Is this one going to hold a permanent place in the the personal collection?
Beautiful bike, beautiful refurbishment, nicely done. So I have a couple of questions. With all the bikes you've been working on, what does your current stable look like?! Of those bikes which is the one you could never let go of? Thanks for your videos.
Awesome bike & build…. If that stem is 25.4 Thompson Clamp size I highly recommend not riding it or keeping tabs on the face place they definitely are known to crack.
Getting old sucks. I'll have to agree. But toaster waffles sounds much better. Man sid forks have been around what feels like forever and still a great fork.
Internal Cabling? Even retro bikes had that? I thought it was on modern ones. Anyway great build, thank you giving those old things new life. I love watching your videos, it's so relaxing and satisfying.
Long time sub here! As always, I love watching you give life and purpose to older things. =) Could you share how you attached the brake/gear cable via the gromets? Or are they just the regular brake hose metal gromets? Im building up a Klein Attitude now and would really appreciate your inputs about this. Cheers!
Talking about breaks on bicycles what is the best brake setup in my opinion the v breaks set up love your guyses videos big fan I love working on bikes too am I free time
That Thompson headset is so cool, it has the ridges from where it was milled. Fantastic job! When are you going to weld some hydraulic brakes on a bike again?
Would of been better with a modern day front fork and hydraulic disc front brakes. Also a 2x10 drivetrain or modern day components are way better than that old stuff.
Fun fact eggs and orange juice contain every single vitamin and the production of cereal really wiped it out. Steak eggs and juice greatest meal for fuel through the day.
I see no restoration here, just ordinary cleaning without even proper fork or wheel service, especially with wd-40 cleaning brake arms approach. I'm not sure it's safe to leave any slick layer on pad mounts.. You can even hear sand cracking in some installation moments. Most of all this video seems to be done as a base for multiple product placements, this made me first time to dislike OS vid.
That m950 drivetrain is the best of all time in my opinion. Set mine up to be 1x and it’s a perfect shift every single time. Great build!!
That's interesting! 1x8? How big is your largest cog?
I had both 900 and 950. Looking back, the original 900 was insanely beautiful
@@marcsimm1 1x9 I was able to get a 42 on with a derailleur extension
One of the SICKEST bikes of all time!
Ok yes
I'm 15 years old and I love vintage bikes I ride a 1995 kona koa a 1997 kona kula and a 1997 trek sub species these are a few from my collection of mostly originals
This is probably the nicest bike you've built up!! I never see anything like this available near me.
Yep. That generation of XTR is hard to beat. Stunning bike. LOVE your bike content. Wow that XTR group set is in pristine condition!❤️

OMG classic Shimano XTR 😍
I own an Attitude in Linear Gator Fade and it’s in perfect condition. By far my favorite bike!
wowwwww...congratulations. What an epic build- honestly LOVE those 1999 tubeless wheels- had no idea they had that tech back then
In my opinion, the best wheelset of all.

Sou um grande fã do seu trabalho. 🇧🇷
No doubt, Kline did the best paint in the business 👍🏻
Wow 21lbs 😳😳 Beautiful bike.
Good to see some Thompson in this build!😍😍
Wow, Tinker Juarez vibes 🙂
Beautiful build!!! 😍😍😍 Nice color too! 👍🚴
wow that was my dreambike ❤
Wow! Beautiful bike. What a good find.
Is it time for another gravel build? I am interested in building a gravel/camping bike from a 90’s frame and need some inspration 🙏
"This was the pinnacle of awesome bikes back in the day." I think the Pinnacle was an earlier model.. 😁 Love the vid and this has to be my fav bike you've had on yet.. Those "after" shots were just magic.
A bike I too coveted but also had no chance of getting one.
I need to get my Kona Kula 2000 back on some trails.
I love all your Bikebuild videos😉👍🏻 Greetings from germany 🇩🇪
Beautiful build! I love my Klein bike too. Feels great to ride and looks fantastic!
Lifetime keeper,🖤❤️
Cool paint job. :)
much love for the work you do your videos give me chills
Absolutely killer build. Period correct tubeless even? Wow.

Yep as a kid i drooled over pretty much every Klein MTB from the 90's...and still drool over them today 🤤
Best paint jobs on these
beatufull bike

Easily my most wanted saved search on eBay etc
Great job! 👏

Great video as ever, just wondering why you fitted an 8 speed cassette rather than a 9 speed.
The shifters were 8-speed. I think originally it had the 8 speed rapid rise XTR rear derailleur.
Beautiful bike, beautiful refurbishment, nicely done. So I have a couple of questions. With all the bikes you've been working on, what does your current stable look like?! Of those bikes which is the one you could never let go of? Thanks for your videos.

En el 98 ya había BB octalink?😎👍 !!
Xtr works smootly
Sepeda yang sangat keren..
Bagaimana aku bisa memilikinya...?

What's the difference between the attitude/attitude pro/attitude comp/attitude race? I have a attitude race.
Every video you make now is going to be "Well it not the Kline, but it is it pretty nice."
Long time sub here! As always, I love watching you give life and purpose to older things. =) Could you share how you attached the brake/gear cable via the gromets? Nice, too bad you can’t find the original handlebar/stem
Sweeet

Superlight frame
Nice bike vid… but that chain slack😅

Una domanda; perché usi il wd40 a pulire i pezzi?👋👋
That stem is way too short. Needs a 150 at least 😅
Seriously, awesome bike!
I thought in 1998 only freewheels were in use
I think cassettes were introduced in the 70’s. By the 90’s I think almost all non department store bikes were using cassettes and free hubs.
they are 1st generation Mavic crossMAX wheelset, with carbon ceramic brake grooves. you could only dream about these wheels 20 years ago
IF you need to have a sponsor ad, please stop the video and do the ad then return your build 🙏
Was it Trek who purchased Klien then basically killed the brand?
Yup. They did the same to Fisher and Lemond. And sort of Bontrager - they kept the name for components but wiped out the bikes.
Would of been better with a modern day front fork and hydraulic disc front brakes. Also a 2x10 drivetrain or modern day components are way better than that old stuff.
So sad that klein only build kids frames…. Seein how short the steerer tube is und how far back the saddle is, its 100% too small for most guys.
Fun fact eggs and orange juice contain every single vitamin and the production of cereal really wiped it out. Steak eggs and juice greatest meal for fuel through the day.
Halloo
una volta smontavi, restauravi. Ora ti limiti a dare una pulita
more AG1 crap
