This document series is amazing, grew up in copper cliff, skateboard boarding all the time, about 30 of us, times were very good, thanks, had the McGill board, first pro board, just picked up the 40th anniversary board, put it on the wall, love it.
Well done !!! I am the Asian guy with the long hair from Hogtown . I can still recognize some of your faces . I’m 59 this year and I still try and skate every day .cheers!!!
Awesome video series. I remember Skadurz Pro from the basement location at the end of Lassalle and falcobridge intersection. Bought my first snowboard there. I had the opportunity to work with Curtis Cyr. He will be missed.
Wow, well done. I've lived in Sudbury my whole life and I was born in 1978. Had lots of friends that were into skateboarding but I just dabbled. I remember in 88 Power Peralta and Tony Hawk boards were all the rave. I remember my buddy was all excited about concave deck he had just got.
2:08 That's my grandpa, the security guard that they are messing with. Was an awesome surprise to see him, to see him trying to do a job he was very proud to do in his late 70s early 80s. But still awesome video. Learn a lot I didn't know. If there is any chance the person who has the clip of guys trying to take gramps hat from him, can I get it sent to me! He passed away a couple years ago and my grandmas face lit up when I showed her the brief clip. Thanks in advance
Man, I remember watching gleaming the cube when I was 9 or 10 and begged my parents for a board so they took me Skadurz and had a decked out Tony Alva. I would bomb Atlee hill like all day on that thing. Connie and Joel were always so awesome. My parents run in to Joel at Adanac every once while. Great work man. My niece is just getting into it and called us when she landed her first pop shove it. She watched episode 2 and loved it. Again thanks for the memories.
I echo your sentiments about Joel and Connie. Fantastic people who did so much for the scene. Great to hear your niece is getting into it. It's awesome to see more and more girls skating. It makes the community stronger.
this is dope. i was part of the epic early 90's wave of "new school" skateboarding in Sault Ste. Marie. i think this story repeated itself right here in the Soo.
Damn. That was so good. covered a bunch of stuff I didn't know about. Thanks Nico for doing this. thank you for caring about how it all happened.it's so good.
Kari. ..Kyle Joly here....mannnn..I can't thank you n Craig enough fer lettin a young weirdo skate with you guys during these yrs!!🙏🙏 I'm forever great full. Kari...I witnessed you do insane shit on a deck💯...Avis drop, 180 Ollie at crazy speeds....St Charles, standard plastic garbage can off the drop😯.... I'll never forget!! Your garage, formed my youth!! Nothin but respect !!💯🙏💯 For you n Craig. Sincere thanks
Nico..... thank you for that..... skating had such an impact on my childhood. Great seeing so many friends in this video. So surreal watching it knowing we lived this. Grew up on the dead end of Gary Street skating with our friends on the "Fun Never Dies" ramp. Loved seeing that picture of our crew in your video with Phil Laframboise, myself, Duane Tubman, Tom Regan, Junior, Dax Brunet, John McDonald, and Matt Morrow. We had just finished a skate and bmx demo for the summer camp kids at Cyril Varney school. Went on from there to build a sizable ramp in my friends backyard - 12' wide- 6' high and 40' long. it was a 1/4 pipe on one end with about 8" of vert and a bank on the other. It unfortunately didn't see much use beyond a small group of us as the parents didn't want a ton of kids, were concerned about legal issues and wanted everyone to sign waivers..... it certainly gave us lots of solo ramp time but impacted our ability to have friends and fellow skaters around...
That's amazing. That ramp must have been quite the sight back then! I'm glad Phil was able to forward me that photo you found. Thanks for letting me use it and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great job love this doc!! I truly relive my childhood through this! Rocking the newge I wonder if Dax is still fighting bears single handedly.. R.I.P Connie true legend and my 2nd mother for a while!! Phil's Mohawk woulda been great to see!! 🍻
Got here late Boys… Total blast from the past right here! Man, those were good days. Skating every day 24/7 practically 🤣 - Lots of old buds and great skaters in this Doc! Amazing work 🖤✨ - Cheers from Sean O’Brien - The guy who made the complex in Hammer his home away from home 😂
Hi Sean! Glad you were able to tune in. Heard lots about how you used to rip! Thanks for blessing the complex in Hanmer and making it a spot. If you've got any cool pics from back then, we'd love to see them! cracksintheroaddoc@gmail.com Thanks again for checking out the documentary.
I'll be watching it alot more..... Showing my family and friends what I was it's was like back then. Alot of those faces I haven't seen in 15-20+ yrs!..... Once again.... incredible doc, you couldn't have captured the look & feel of sudbury & its personalities. Congrats and thanks again!
Hey from England. Near Liverpool. Great film. So lucky to have all the footage, but we'll done making a doc with it. It could almost be the story of me and people I skated with. I lived it, from first proper set up in 88 all way to about 04 and forced to stop coz landed bad on a back 3 and ruined my spine. I had just had a resurgence after 4 patchy years battling few demons. I was devastated. I filmed with an on off friend, but we filmed skating from 93 to 96 and a few bits after that but I had gone university. He would not give me any footage though. Constantly asked him. He didn't outright refuse. He just made excuses. For over a year. My theory is he was always get a bit jealous and he thought I was going to try and get sponsored with footage. It was sic lol, but I wasn't that confident then. I just wanted footage for nostalgia and I didn't want to say bye to 3 years of work. It almost gets worse. Eventually I get a tape. I couldn't believe i got a tape. Except I watched it and it was 2 minutes of me in the local car park where we just practiced and messed around. No road trips, skateparks, city skating in Liverpool and other cities. Not even the best stuff from car park. I was effin fuming then but I've mellowed a bit and at least I have the 2 mins. Plus I got hold of a tape of me and friends in Liverpool. Not everyone. Plenty of friends missing, but again, better than nothing.
Wow I had no idea about the beginnings of Skadurz Pro! Bought many a shirt there, and a board once too! Sure fun to see so many familiar faces in this video. Great job on the production and storytelling!
This was such a great documentary! I remember all of this. So glad to see skateboarding alive and well in Sudbury. In the beginning, it was such a struggle, especially in a Northern Ontario town. Can't wait for a second episode!
Amazing watch! I grew up skating in the early 2000s in greater sudbury (onaping lol) and had no idea about this history. I will definitely be watching the other parts. Thanks so much for making this
Matt berger is from my city all us old guys were pretty stoked to see one of the wonder children become a super star one had to come from Kamloops just such a big skate community
I think it was Brian but maybe Kevin, but my first pro board was a doorstop at threadz. I was so fkin hyped! It was actually crucial during the very beginning lol
Hey there. I used to see Jeff skating at various spots around New Sudbury in the late 90's. Also saw him from time to time at Ryan Heights skatepark. Why do you ask?
This document series is amazing, grew up in copper cliff, skateboard boarding all the time, about 30 of us, times were very good, thanks, had the McGill board, first pro board, just picked up the 40th anniversary board, put it on the wall, love it.
Nice! Thanks for watching Ryan. Are you saying there were 30 skaters in Copper Cliff in the 80s?
No I would say more like 10 to 12, of us.
Well done !!! I am the Asian guy with the long hair from Hogtown . I can still recognize some of your faces . I’m 59 this year and I still try and skate every day .cheers!!!
Talked with the guys, and some of them remember you too! They say hello!
Wow this is awesome! Us North Bay Kids would hitch hike to hang out at Skaters Pro in Sudbury lol Great Memories!
This is amazing! So much history I had forgotten and didn't even know about.
Truly, awesome job!
Thanks for watching Clem.
I'm from the 🇺🇸 and it's awesome to see the early days of 🛹 culture outside the 🇺🇸!! The 80s, what a time to be alive!!
Awesome video series. I remember Skadurz Pro from the basement location at the end of Lassalle and falcobridge intersection. Bought my first snowboard there. I had the opportunity to work with Curtis Cyr. He will be missed.
Nice! Thanks for watching, Steve.

Great memories! Thanks for putting this together, and definitely looking forward to episode 2!
I’m excited to sit down and watch these! I grew up riding BMX, however skating is what got me into it!
There seems to have been lots of crossover between BMX and skating!
this is dope.
i was part of the epic early 90's wave of "new school" skateboarding in Sault Ste. Marie.
i think this story repeated itself right here in the Soo.
Nice! No doubt there were other thriving skate scenes across the North. To this day there's still a unique connection between the various communities.
great job on preserving the videos, you guys are killing it with this documentary
Thanks Tony!
Damn. That was so good. covered a bunch of stuff I didn't know about. Thanks Nico for doing this. thank you for caring about how it all happened.it's so good.

So many great memories. Lucky that people like Shayne and others had some good footage and held on to it for so long. This was so well put together.
Couldn't have done it without Shayne's (and everyone else's) help!
Fun times.. you guys are lucky to have videos of yourselves. My poor skate crew didn't even have money for camera film.

re-watching and realised Dana's in North Bay and The Bucket were never mentioned. Both spots were rad!
They weren't specifically mentioned, but John Purvis has a line on Dana's mini ramp at the beginning of his segment in the 90s episode.
The bucket was rad.

what a giant chunk of my younger years wrapped up in this doc...i remember some of this stuff like it was yesterday.....
Good memories never fade! Thanks for watching, Daryl.

WOW. This is amazing! More people have to see this!
Thanks Mike. Feel free to share it around!
