Really digging that Solar Explorer Type! The reverse headstock really sells it for me. If it's available in purple I may not be able to resist the temptation. The amp sounds cool, but I'll forever stick to my trusty and badass Randall.
My favorite amp for years. I don´t understand the hype for the old ones. I owned a 2553. Sounds awesome but the 2555X sounds also amazing and will blow you away.
I’ve had this amp for a little over a year now, gig regularly with it & am still fiddling with its tone. It’s got so many great tones I’m struggling to land on a favourite. Brilliant amp.
The rhythm clip pull is for the clean channel…it enables different clipping diodes for a crunch channel….the EQ is also plate driven,so it’s very responsive, which was a unique design for Marshall….it will chug with a drive pedal in front, but it’s more of a classic hard rock sound….great amps though…I have an original 87 100 watt that I bought brand new back then….I almost like the new small version better..
I had the original reissue back in 2015 when marshall first released it, absolute monster of an amp. Sadly i had to sell it during hard times but i will own one again one day
Coming here from the review did by Reverb and other reviews, where this amp sounded like a suitcase radio or so. Glad to hear it's actually fine and can sound big, thank you! :-)
The original did chug, you just had to drive the hell out of it with everything set at 11 same as the Std JCM. Had a JCM stack (4x12) way back in the day and selling it was one of my biggest regrets as you could get the crispiest sound from it with a bit of fiddling, there are better amps out there but a JCM just has something about it not to mention a good condition stack is worth the price of a kidney these days...
I have the reissue 100w version. It chugs super hard with a tubescreamer. Funny enough the bass, mid, and gain controls are just as sensitive on the 100w version as this 25w. It sounds a lot better with v30 speakers though. This video seems like the amp is lacking a certain mid frequency and treble grind I'm used to hearing with my 1991 Marshall V30 cab. Could be the guitar though too, the Fishman's sound WAY better in the secondary mode you engaged. But with V30s it also sounds different with the rhythm clip engaged too, so who knows lol. If you still have the amp definitely give it a try with your Mesa or other v30 cabs! Great video Ola!
