  • Here is the foundation and practical application of Nikajo/Nikyo. This video is from a Nami ryu seminar in Cologne, Germany. There have been many derivations especially in modern arts that use various methodologies with various degrees of effectiveness and sophistication. When put into true martial perspective it becomes apparent that no muscle, no leverage, no contesting is the effective answer to an immediate and lethal threat. Do not flex your bicep at all! This is a common modern way to implement this technique and will not work unless the opponent is cooperating or incompetent.

Always awesome stuff, Sir. BTW, I LOVE your son's Williams design knife, I can't remember the name, but seems like the Otanashi No Ken on steroids.

I would love to see this employed in a MMA context at real speed.

Well, weapons are not allowed in competitions...

Newsflash: MMA has it's merits, no doubt, but it isn't the be all end all of combat. For one, MMA is not meant to incapacitate or kill the opponent, nor is it all that useful in a setting where sharp steel is involved. Take the time to read a bit of the combat manuals for the Commandos *Get Tough* or the OSS *Kill or get killed* - you'll find that it's more in the vein of these techniques than MMA.

Real world context is weapons and usually multiple opponents of whatever size and capability happen to be the antagonist(s). Sports are something different all together. Time to solution becomes a critical factor, fractions of a second to a second or three is very often the only time that you have. The consequences of failure are extreme. This is a very different paradigm and demands a very different set of solutions.

Ugh, you MMA trolls infest everything about everything. Guess what? Not all martial arts exist for competative fighting. Also, these techniques have been breaking people up in actual real.combat for centuries so please get of the MMA high horse.

@@jjs3890 Everybody is assuming the original commenter did so in disbelieve, but as a practitioner of modern and traditional MA I would unironically love watching an MMA fighter use this to shuck a grip while handfighting in a legitimate match.
