After 12 years of paralysis, his muscles are severely deconditioned. I'd love to see his progress as his muscle strength improves. What an amazing accomplishment!
true, which got me thinking how different it'd look on a person that recently got paralyzed
Yes, I wondered HOW his muscles could do as needed since accident was 12 years ago. I'm happy for him and hope this advance in science will continue evolving and help everyone in need. What an accomplishment !!!
Yes, this is what I don't understand. His muscles would be severely atrophied after such a long time. I wish they would explain this.
@@maryvallettakeith6146 What's to explain? He can once again stimulate muscle growth.
Most of them don’t do this but the more athletic ones do repetitive exercise via manually moving their legs with their hands or machines that allows the muscles to be stimulated (like those things you stick on your abs from those infomercials) so they at least retain some muscle mass on their legs and not be completely atrophied to the point of being useless.
Feels like a turning point moment for anyone with spinal injuries limiting their movement. Incredible work.
Could it help people with als move again tho? That’s so sad of how that disease effects ppl. Makes me think of that former New Orleans saints player. Steve Gleason? I thought Gleason was his last name
@@miamiman24 you are right. Such a terrible disease.

Imagine being told you will NEVER walk again. Just the ability to stand up and give someone you love a hug is something that so many of us take for granted. This is truly amazing and once again speaks volumes about the doctors dedicating their lives to helping us♥️
Imagine when they tell you sorrry you can’t afford this option!!!
@@patmartin2730 I understand that, but the point is that we're on the way to better treatment. Most people couldn't afford lasik and now it's standard procedure. Unfortunately, like everything, treatment goes to the wealthy first...
Buddy of mine had a wear and tear spine, doctors said He wont be able to walk let alone stand, spent 6 weeks on hospital bed. He went to physio religiously. He's walking with crutches the first few weeks I saw him, then after that he's walking without it.
Doctors may say it will never work through their observations and results they see on paper, but if you're willing to do something, you may be and possibly able to do what seems impossible at first.

Because it doesn't involve Kim Kardashian or celebrity gossip
I see what you did there lol
The Associated press is covering it so it’ll be copied by all the other news channels. Gradual scientific improvement doesn’t get a lot of airtime on the news.
How long until the average public can get these? If it’s soon then it’s news
It doesn’t set us commoners at each other’s throats. That’s all the media exists to do. _It’s like this on purpose and it isn’t just all about the money._
Yes I know. I wasn’t genuinely asking why the media doesn’t cover actual news. I was just drawing attention to the fact that this sort of thing should be huge news, but if it isn’t distracting people from the real problems in society, then the news won’t cover it.
Because it's not a profit-generating pill that's part of a big cycle of symptoms and side effects and endless profits.

You never know when something like this will be available to everybody. Could be tomorrow or It could be 50 years from now. Not something that someone like your mother should rely on or expect, but rather a beacon of light, and hope. I pray that your mother has found solace in her life, and fights for it for as long as she can. If you don’t mind me asking, what was the reason or cause of her losing the ability to walk? I've seen disabled people drifting in car competitions with only their feet and shoulders for example. You got it bro
I hope you can have access to this technology soon! 👍
This would be great, but not all paralyzed people will benefit from this. The cause of paralysis has to be the spinal cord. If the brain stops emitting signals to the legs for an XYZ reason, this invention will be utterly useless 😢.
Fantastic thanks docs and everyone involved. Gives hope to people who will need this in future 👍🏽
This is revolutionary. Restoring the ability to walk in a paralyzed person is an amazing feat, but with the technology they used I'm assuming that you can do this with other appendages, like the arms and hands. It appears relatively simplistic in its construction too. Incredible!

A diagnosis can never be 100% correct all the time, they didn't lie
When you really want to do something like walk again.. you will..
@@runningwater7873 sorry to say that This is bs. The power of will can be strong. But it's an insult to every person, who got paralyzed and really has no chance to walk again. You're basically saying, that the ones who don't make it, are too weak and don't fight enough. This is pure bs! There are things one is not able to change by himself.
@@runningwater7873 How about we use you as an experiment to prove that revolutionary theory (in 2023!!!!)?
Best wishes to this man
