Here the Deities approve
The God of Music and of Love;
All the talents they have lent you,
All the blessings they have sent you,
Pleas'd to see what they bestow,
Live and thrive so well below.
Thanks! It's beautifully sung but it still helps to see the lyrics in my experience.
What I like about Reginald is how it manages to sing without " forcing" the pitch .. an absolute delight
This guy is incredible, there is so much life in his singing ! Purcell's songs are often warm and simple and the way he sings highlights the text so well.
This simple guitar arrangement and this lively voice, it seems like this song defies time, it feels as direct and relevant now as it was many centuries ago.
Yes yes yes! Imagine Purcell thinking we'd be listening today.
His name is Reginald Mobley, Reggie Mobley
agreed! i wish i had unending collections of Reginald Mobley's beautiful voice to listen to. I love this Henry Purcell stuff. just found it a coupld months ago. in love.
outrageous talent
아름답기 그지없어요 ~
Ridiculously limpid and flexible. Just exquisite
I am deeply impressed. I have said for decades we need more soul in Early Music. Not fake emotion but personal, lively articulation, phrasing and, above all, sound. Technical aptitude is merely a precondition. Stereotypes hanging over from romantic music are a nuisance, obfuscating the true emotions of Early Music compositions. Thus I am delighted by this wonderful duo. Thank you.
Purcell is my favourite English composer.
One of the most beautiful interpretation of this Purcell’s masterpiece. Fabulous 🙏🏻🎶❤️🔥🙌👏👏👏
You can see in their faces how pleased these great musicians are to make music with Reginald.
Oh, you stopped me dead in my search for beauty! Happy Mother’s Day to me! Your mom must love your singing. I hope she does.😊
I think this is my very favorite RM video! Not only impeccably sung in every aspect, but I LOVE the way he can go in and out of the lower range both seamlessly and SWEETLY. No change in the flow of the line. Bravissimo!
He sings like an angel
Divine music, so finely interpreted - you have made the centuries roll back, sir
Wonderful singer and excellent ornamentation!
Such gorgeous and delicate ornamentation! Superb work Reggie.
I cannot stop listening to this💎Beautiful interpretation, exquisite voice and sublime guitar! Brava
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤아름다운 선율 감사합니다 🎉🎉🎉
Reggie! This is absolutely awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Purcell is die-hard hellenicist/platonist in his conception of deities and virtue here
Reginald is so good!
Reggie Mobley is one of the best countertenors of his generation
Ah oui .. plus je vous écoute plus je suis subjuguée par votre voix , quelle merveilleuse et exquise interprétation ! How did i manage to only discover you today ?
Un ángel cantando. Hermoso.
Lovely to see such a talented black man
Tellement de sensibité. Ornementation magnifique. My favorite version by far!
An outstanding performance in an inviting domestic setting: a special moment. Many thanks!
Just sublime! The ornamentation, the accompaniment.....perfect! Thank you for sharing this...it's made my weekend. X
Pure delight!
His range! Magnificent!❤
Wonderfully light!
A one man seminar in Baroque countertenor. Improvisational dance-like and melifluous.
That was beautiful. The ornamentation was very well done!
Beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤
The description says "lute," and the thumnail shows one, but the actual video shows a 17th century guitar.
There's only one word for this intimate melding of voice and lute - ravishing.
Magnifique ! Thank you so much.
What a beautiful voice!

This is a gorgeous performance by all involved, but only just noticed one of them shares my surname!
Splendid and wonder-full!
Simple, direct, excellent duet... From France.

Perfection.
That was splendid!
Outstanding
Ah... qué hermosura. The Master of Melancholy. Adoro esta interpretación.
Wow that ending. So gentle!
I first saw Mr. Mobley perform with Brandon Acker. He does not disappoint.
Beautiful!
And thus we hear Orpheus incarnate -- your applause is no less sweet -- let us retire to soft couches with oul Antic wine and ponder the Egyptian style. Ladies must cover their eyes -- lest they be jealous of the Nubian joys!
Incredible
Delicioso. Gracias!
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Wonderfull rendition, this most truly baRocks!
Much better than several known professonals!..the voice is so natural ans easy!.. the best version i heard since Alfred Deller
too bad he does not finish the aria

Vay benim gardaşım

What type of lute is this? The shape is unfamiliar
Was wondering the same thing. After doing some research I believe it's a baroque guitar.
I think it's a 17th century guitar, it's definitely not a lute
Like honey.
Wish there was an instrumental version
Only a human voice can bring out all that beauty - text rules but we instrumentalists can at least give a try!
@@karenburnett3612 nah i think the instrumental is better
There is. A new ground from part II of Musicks Handmaid.
but where is the big, enormous, huge, gigantic, ridiculous looking instrument in the video's thumbnail? i wanted to see the big, enormous, huge, gigantic, ridiculous looking instrument in the thumbnail? WAAAAA
So where is this straining for high notes some armchair critic wants to highlight? He's obviously straining to find fault.because ai can't hear it.
The stereo mix on this is too unbalanced, otherwise phenomenal set.
Totally unexpected voice coming out of a big man... He kind of looks a bit like Barry White, and that's the voice you'd expect...
It's a beautiful song but the unbalanced sound (in my headphones) leads to auditory fatigue; if his voice were balanced between the left and right speaker, and likewise with the lute, it'd be fabulous. Thanks for sharing.
Well done, men.
Beautiful!
