We are thrilled to present this remarkable singer and Handel specialist in a fascinating and varied program with music of Purcell, Handel, and Ignatius Sancho. Ignatius Sancho (1729-1780) is perhaps the least well-known composer on our program, though all have significant connections to England. Born into slavery in the British colonies, Sancho later went to England where he eventually gained his freedom and became a noted abolitionist, writer, composer, and shopkeeper.
Noted for his “shimmering voice” (BachTrack), American countertenor Reginald Mobley is highly sought after for the baroque, classical and modern repertoire. In March 2020, he became the first ever programming consultant for the Handel & Haydn Society following several years of leading H+H in his community engaging Every Voice concerts. He holds the position of Visiting Artist for Diversity Outreach with the Baroque ensemble Apollo’s Fire. His career takes him around the world for concerts, opera, and recordings.
