The final time the song appears in the show, (during the murder montage) it also alternates between Agatha singing alone, and other voices singing with her, and I'm assuming the writers chose which parts would be which based on what's being said in each part, because the specific lyrics seems to fit well.
lorna wu's version of the ballad is unironically one of my favourite songs at the moment, i have that song on repeat 24/7, i guarantee it will be in my spotify wrapped at this point lol. i think part of why i like it so much is probably influenced by episode four being my second favourite episode of the show (i mean, killing a generational curse that's haunted your mom's side of the family for probably centuries by singing? iconic behaviour, alice wu-gulliver you are my hero fr), but just overall it's a brilliant song. i think i read somewhere that they actually started with writing lorna's version and then created the different versions after that (i could be wrong, it's been forever since i read the article that talked about this) which i think is really interesting. i love how different it is from the sacred chant version we hear in episode two. it is still is similar to the chant version, of course, but it's obvious that it was written by lorna specifically for alice to protect her, how personal and more specific some of the lines are to their history. these lyrics are made even more impactful when you watch them play the song in episode four, hearing alice sing the "if i can't hold you, remember what i told you" part with the split-screen of her mother's poster next to her and i just absolutely love it.
Lorna Wu's version became a part of my daily playlist. I love it so much. The feeling behind the song, the way it plays, the breakdown in the middle, it just feels like you are being enveloped in comfort which makes sense because it was written as a protection spell. Honestly, sometimes it makes me tear up. The "If I can't reach you, let my song teach you... all you need to keep our love alive. If I can't hold you... remember what I told you... It's the only way we survive... we survive." part gets me every time! To have a mother with love that pure.
It's my favorite version, also because of episode 4. Some really emotional moments with Alice, especially near the end, belting out those clearly personal lyrics. So good.
Nicky's version is basically the True Crime version. So, Agatha owes him for making him wait for the promise at the end, Wherever it may bend, I'll see you at the end.
"to glory (Happy) at the (fun) eend (deifinetly Not gonna die)!" Hahaha! I liked your music theory the first time. Also have you heard the the Lopezes wrote the Lorna Wu Version with Fleetwood Mac in mind as Jac Schäfer is a big fan? Silver spring especially informed the music and emotional Bagage of the Song and Rio/Agathas relationship. I thought it was so cool that the fandom picked this Up in early edits even before the cofirmation
It's fun how to us non-musicians, we can often feel there's a difference without understanding it. I mean, if you put two versions in front of me and told me to pick which one has lots of major and minor chords, I probably could notice the difference, but I'm not thinking about it during the show. The acting is the same in the show where we know something's odd/off about the scene, the way lines are delivered or someone's facial expressions. It isn't until the end of the show that we understand it. It was a very clever show.
I don’t think it’s fair to say that Agatha created the legend of the road to scam witches. The song was just a little thing between her and Nicky but then another witch came by and heard Agatha. It’s that witch that mentions that the legend of the road has been circulating in the world. As Agatha doesn’t live with other witches at this point, this is the first time she’s heard the legend that the road is real. So she may have perpetuated the legend, but she did not create it.
Exactly this. It was a private thing between them. But then Agatha (I’m assuming here but I kinda doubt Nicky would suggest it since he’s expressed reservations about killing witches) decided to add it to her witch baiting routine. So once it was performed in public it went viral so to speak without Agatha’s involvement. Later after having made the rounds in the community it made its way back to Agatha and seeing an opportunity she decided to make it part of her bag of tricks to lure unsuspecting witches.
Half right Agatha didn’t intend to create the legend but Nicky’s song got spread around and rumors spread throughout a game a colonial telephone causing witches to believe in it and how it will give them what they want through trials unaware they just made that up. Agatha realizes this and seizes the opportunity as always.
I feel like this video could've been ten minutes longer explaining the theory and lore. I know, these days people complain about videos being too long.

That was such a cool scene! Thanks for watching!
I thought it was like more witches joining in while she kept on killing them

@@loupetron that part gets me so much too. Love it.
Original Nicki's version says windy road. We don't hear him sing witch's road until the last day of his life.
True! Thanks for watching!
Isn't it whiny?
@@KalenMins We were both wrong. It's not windy or whiny, it's whindy.

Everything about this show was so well thought out and wonderfully done!
Thanks for watching!

That’s awesome, I had no idea! Thanks for watching!
That makes sense, Lorna's version sounded a lot like Fleetwood to me
Sure and while the song doesn’t sound like Rhiannon, we all know what the subject of that song was.
reassuring that any witches who also studied ethomusicology would recognize the song as a scam because of its relatively modern harmonic structure
It’s a small but very real minority. Thanks for watching!
I think you have just created the theory that modern harmonic structures were invented by witches
@@michaelklaus good point, I wouldn't put it past them!
@@JustinLeI think your on to something 🤔🤔
Imagine if that’s why Lorna never tried to summon the road and was fine changing the ballad to her rock song.

That’s the mark of effective art! It’s not for other artists, it’s for the consumer! Thanks for watching!

She herself said it was a scam. Try again.

That’s true! Thanks for watching!
But the song she created with Nicky made the myth so yes, she did indirectly create it
I went and watched the original video and had a good internal laugh when Alex was like, "It sounds fake, but on purpose."
Haha, thanks for watching!
This song really reminds me of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon theme song. Which was also geared towards children.
Interesting! I’ll check it out. Thanks for watching!
These songs are amazing because they are written by the same composers who created the music for Frozen
True! Thanks for watching!
The version of episode 4 (Lorna Wu’s) is for me the best version of The Ballad of the Witches Road
I feel like this video could've been ten minutes longer explaining the theory and lore. I know, these days people complain about videos being too long.
I have a part 1 where I dive deeper! Thanks for watching!
Let's be clear, Agatha used the road to murder desperate women.

The finale was a week and a half ago. Not a few weeks ago.
My bad. Finished the video quicker than I thought.
I’m glad another has been convereted to common sense, this show is ass
me talking about loki
Definitely not. The last 2 episodes were not what I thought they could be, but the show overall is still really solid
