Kone LCE is relative encoded not absolute, so yes it uses the motor encoder to determine it's position, it synchronizes with the shaft plates, as it doesn't have a shaft information system that tells the controller all the time where the lift is at. It only knows for example that shaft plate XX is at XXmm position. The only exception is on Kone LCE ReSolve it uses hole punch tape to mimic the the motor encoder distance pulses, as ReSolve comes with non serial bus bound drives like Omron etc. Hope that helps
