  • In May 2007, UK Special Forces, including the S.B.S. and their partners in 7 Squadron, R.A.F., conducted a night-time raid in Helmand Province, Southern Afghanistan. Their target was Mullah Dadullah, the Taliban's Chief Military Commander. This is the story of that operation.

Respect for all military forces that served in Afghanistan! You did the best you couldand nobody could have done it better, only politicians are to blame here. Thank you for your service! Edit:
Also wanna thank all my family members for their service. We go way back to WWII, Korea, Dutch East-Indies, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and more service members currently serving in both Navy, Royal Dutch Marines and Sappers. Bless you all! Watching videos of what was occurring at HKIA was beyond my comprehension.
During my two tours the only time I ever got so close to anyone affiliated with the Taliban/Insurgency was either when patching them up after being captured, or DNA swabbing and finger printing (for intel IDs) whatever was left of them following an engagement.
To witness armed militants mere feet away from NATO lads without shots being fired or even a crossed word seemingly being said absolutely battered me, as it has done for so many of us who witnessed first hand how thoroughly despicable and ruthless they were and will nk doubt continue to be.
God bless those 13 US service personnel, and the innocent civilians who lost their lives last week. A completely unnecessary waste of life, which is how this entire conflict can be best summed up.

Every one of those lads and lasses in and around MKIA must have been on edge 24/7, as it wasn't a matter of if, but _when_ someone/something got through.
I was nervous just watching the news footage of British and US personnel operating mere feet from Taliban/Insurgency fighters and the thousands upon thousands of civilians.
I don't enjoy discussing politics as it isn't my area of expertise, but from being over there myself and still having friends serving, all I can say is Biden and his administration have blood on their hands. Both American and Afghan blood.
God bless all of those who died needlessly not only last week, but over the past twenty years as well.

This exemplifies the bravery and selflessness of our servicemen, who do what is asked, without hesitation, time and again. Respect to all those involved in the ISAF mission over the last 20 years.
Ultimately though we have all been disgraced and dishonoured by our spineless politicians, who after expending so much blood and treasure, we simply walk away and leave the entire Afghan nation to their sad fate.
All those lives lost, limbs gone, shattered bodies and the ongoing mental torture, and for what??
Let us not forget the sacrifice of the brave, but also let us not forget the despicable callousness of our leaders. Truly lions led by donkeys.

    • @burningphoneix
      @burningphoneix 2 года назад +2

So what is the answer? More lives lost, more limbs gone, more shattered bodies for another 20, 30 or 40 years? There is only so much blame to be placed on the politicians here. The militaries involved lost so much institutional knowledge and fumbled operations over and over again. The troops were not invested in the mission or the welfare of Afghans (after all, some of them were literal toddlers when 9/11 happened), they distrusted the local populace and spent most of their time in the wire counting down the days till their tour was over. The Officers were trained for a diametrically opposed type of warfare and spent most of their time making powerpoint presentations of the great ideas they had to pitch to senior brass because there was no way to earn merit in an epic battlefield action. And the Senior Brass? Wondering how much they can get the DoD to spend so they can secure a nice comfy position on the boards of Raytheon, Lockheed-Martin or General Dynamics.
The rot is institutional. "The politicians are to blame" is an easy scapegoat that will contribute to further disasters in the future.

I used to sit beside a guy at work who was in the SBS in Afghanistan, amongst other places. He had some great stories but most of them involved Thai ladyboys. He never talked much about mission specifics like this. I wonder if he was involved.

So I asked him and, yes he was. His first reaction was, “how the fuck do you know about that, they aren’t making a shitty film or something, are they?” He was relieved to find out they weren’t.

The militaries of the coalition forces did an outstandung job, having to contend with a harsh climate, hardy and resilient enemies, locals who were accustomed to casual and part time warfare, and of course their own bummbling governments who had no plans of nation building, and yet installed a bummbling and corrupt government and tried to prop it up for decades after it and they lost the support of the Afgan people. Coalition forces that could not win back the trust and confidence of the locals as they had at the most crucuial moment of all, at the very start when the Afgan people were on side and many risked their own lives to try to build a better country and payed that ultimate price, been withdrawn from country.
The harsh truth of the matter is that if you lose credibility with the locals you are meant to be protecting you become just another armed band roaming the countryside. You kill an enemy and another takes his place, you annhilate their forces and merely drive them underground. You must destroy their base. Remove their credibility and win the hearts and minds of those that would otherise support your enemy or be indifferent.
All this to say the issue was our leadership.
Asside from the fucking blatant murderers they are no better in a uniform and this kind of behaviour damages the reputation of our nations and our armies and endagers the lives of our citizens overseas.
But asside from these few individuals massive respect to all those that served and fought. As a regular civy I pay your wages and respect you for your professionalism.

Karzai was a puppet and so was ashraf ghani, abdullah abdullah, ahmad masood, khalili, Dostum, atta muhammad noor and every single one of the slave government in the past 20 years and were involved in all types of crimes from being slaves to being corrupt and most of all a lot of them including dostum and others were involved in child abuse(bacha bazi) and other crimes.
Taliban are the true Afghans and true sons of Afghanistan.
Dadullah fought like a champion and died like one.
As far as it's the question of the translators I want to ask Americans that what would you do to an American translator who would work for a mexican occupying force if Mexico was to invade usa or some other country.
What would you call the translators working for a foreign invading force?
    Be honest and answer.

The West was always going to pull out of Afghanistan at some stage so blaming anybody is pointless. No one can control Afghanistan and no one ever has. The Russians pulled out and so did the British Empire way back when. That said going into Afghanistan started as a worthy effort to rid the world of some very nasty people. All this makes me wonder if perhaps the West should develop new tactics. Do the bit that they are good at and go in and wipe out the bad guys. But then simply pull out and leave the country in a mess. Let the locals sort themselves out and if you don't like the result go in and do it again. I originally had this idea when they invaded Iraq. Very few western soldiers were killed in the invasion. The nasty bit happened afterwards when they tried to hold the country.
