(Isobel Jobe) your videos always make me feel so envious. Here I am in the U.K. the weather turning to autumn and so missing an exotic destination like Thailand. Although I am 72 years old my husband and I have travelled extensively and know Thailand well. We have been to Koh Samui three times but never ventured to Koh Phangan, thinking that it was just for the youngsters and Full Moon parties. We always preferred to stay in beach bungalows ( air conditioning and kettle a must!) so you taking us to the kind of places we could so happily stay is a delightful way of escaping the realism of this pandemic.
Please carry on blogging, even if they are not regular. We so look forward to our dose of paradise!

@@SideTripLife how is the weather on the island in October November December? I’ll be there to train Muay Thai and online it says kinda rainy but I was curious for an actual perspective
Kinda rainy is also how I'd describe Oct-Dec but mixed sun too. Cloudbursts are usually intense for only 20-30 mins and rarely get rained out an entire day. Well, unless it's remnants of a tropical storm crossed from Phils/Vietnam etc (like prob this Mon/Tues) then back to hassip mixed sun/showers. A good place to look at current live cam is google: 'Live Cam House of Sanskara on Haad Rin beach' then scroll back thru the day to see how often showers vs sun appears.

Koh ma Beach was my first ever experience if thailand....the rush of seeing it for the first time was amazing...fell in love with koh phangan from that point.

And YES I have been to 360 Bar and enjoyed a sunset there with a couple we met at our resort. We first introduced them to “The Rolling Pin” where we had great homemade Italian pasta (near Salad Beach) and then topped off the evening at 360 with a drink, plenty of laughter and sunset. 🌅All in all...a very nice memory! 🥰

I will be in Koh Samui by November. I will be visiting Koh Samui first. I love these little cottages by the sea. I will stay at least 3 months. Maybe forever. My wife will have some say in this. However,she loves Thailand also 😁
I love this KP series - relaxed video brings back very relaxed memories on KP.
While I had no issues watching this 20 minutes due to my interest in and familiarity with the location, personally I think of 10-12 minutes as the ideal length for a YT video which I'd stretch to 15 minutes as the ideal for your relaxed style. (But I'd probably watch longer - maybe over several sittings).

The 360 bar got busted last year for having a party during Covid lockdown. Sorry to see it's been abandoned but hopefully it will reopen when restrictions end. Great video and your voice is nice and laidback.
I don't know whether to be happy or sad watching that video STL. The lack of people and the desolate abandoned hilltop bar. I am beginning to wonder how long it will in fact be before all these abandoned bars and guesthouses and hotels will take to bounce back? Anyhow yes still a beautiful location. Plus you can now rise to near market dominance now that Sir Paddy has left the local dominion on his royal chariot (-:
Actually, as shown previously, Koh Phangan does have some 'livelier' areas (Sri Thanu + pockets of Thong Sala) just like on Samui (Bophut/Bangrak). But for sure it will take a lot more than a few sandboxers to get things humming again. Paddy is a great film maker/storyteller. My style is pure content which isn't everyone's cup 'o tea, especially those who wish to be 'entertained'. For the few who do 'get' and like (or perhaps tolerate;) my style, I'm very appreciative :):)

That 20 minutes went by very fast. I have to return to US end October and I’m returning to Thailand through the Phuket sandbox. 1 week Phuket but the question is week 2. Krabi or Koh Samui/Phangnan. What would you do ?

@Anthony Tough call, love BOTH areas so much. Since you only have a week left after Phuket Sandbox I'd probably hop a boat to Koh Phi Phi and Krabi as they REALLY need the custom more, plus you'll never get to have these amazing places almost to yourself again.

I really enjoy your videos, but I wonder: you've got this camera-centric phone you shoot with, but when you pan you drop a lot of frames. Is that in the original, or is there something in your phone -> youtube pipeline that needs some attention? It's very noticeable, and not in a good way :).
Thx for the feedback. It's ME actually as I have a bad habit of whipping around vs slowly panning. Sometimes I can actually feel the builtin gimbal grinding trying to keep up. I will continue to try to slow down.
@@SideTripLife Yeah, after all, what's the rush? You're in paradise :). Plus, those panning moments can actually be interesting content because it give us different things to look at and gives us a better sense of what it is actually like there. Regardless, great videos, nice narration, and nice interactions with locals.

What's the procedure for renting a bike? Is it the same as in the rest of the country or are they less formal? Need to present a license?
I never leave my PP, always deposit, ranges 2000-5000 baht ($60-$150). I have a Thai DL but no one ever asks me for it. But be aware most travel/health/accident insurance is invalid if no Intnl or local MOTORBIKE license....

Price really not the same now 😕 around 20000 month with fan only , when you was there exectly?
This was about 2 years ago. Since then tourism (particularly long-stay) has gone berserk with demand outstripping supply on KPG. I doesn't help that savvy foreigners signed up many long term leases at low prices then sub-let at incredibly inflated prices.... Just had a look at some FB groups now and seems the avg price of a bungalow is around 15k. There are several 20k of course but also 10k and even a few good ol' 7k fan rooms. But times are changing and the crazy price spikes are almost entirely down to US, foreigners.
I would be watching whether 1min or 1hour.

I get your frustration Alan and hopefully restrictions can begin to ease as vax continues ramping up. That doesn't solve it of course but does vastly reduce worst cases and crucially occupants of ICU beds.
This has been the crux of Thailand's concern to date, having scant ICU's (vs the West) thus worst case having to choose who gets a bed/ventilator and who gets the chimney... Even in Texas, Hawaii and other states right now surgeries are cancelled as ICU's are full and resources maxxed out.
In Thailand the good news is it looks like they may actually reach the needed 70% vax rate by Oct-ish (at least in main tourist areas). Then, likely continue to phase in re-opening and barring any major setbacks, also likely phase in reduction of restrictions.
So, here's wishing Thailand, you and all waiting to return the best possible success with this phase-in and lifting of restrictions. Chok dee

Fluctuates 5-50 mbps, depending on time of day/how many users on same box etc. Best to get a monthly unlimited sim card as back up in case throttled at times.

Nice sentiment Country Man :) However, likely it will be with us for the foreseeable future but just as likely we'll continue learning to live with it and protect those most at risk. That said, here's hoping Thailand can reach max vax in tourist areas by 4th quarter, thus can continue phasing in re-opening and with fewer restrictions going fwd.

Thx Brent. As a fellow Canuck I hope NOT to see noisy protests outside our hospitals on the news EVER again. I get that some are frustrated and concerned about their rights etc but protesting outside hospitals??? WTF/SMH.
Meanwhile, the Thai PM has recently stated that 'We must learn to live with this and go forward'.The Deputy PM yesterday also re-affirmed intent to phase in re-opening from Oct. This is obviously contingent on many factors and also requires 70%+ vax but it appears that threshold may actually be in sight by Oct-ish (at least for main tourist areas).
However, the rollout won't be a free-for-all that many want but likely a phased in re-opening ala Phuket Sandbox. Then measured as they go and dependent on any major setbacks, restrictions eased and more areas opened.
Still, personally would not book anything yet unless it comes with cancellation/refund, or at the least flight re-sched with no penalty option.
Anyways bottom line, the Thai Govt does now seem determined to try to go fwd with at least a phased in re-opening within the final quarter. So here's wishing both Thailand and all waiting to return, the best possible outcomes.
