I just realised it's a irs instead of a solid rear axle so traction bars won't help lol, but a stiffer sway bar will tie the wheels together to help aid traction and prevent wheel hop.
We all do, but remember that car going was what meant the drift truck could come, and without the drift truck there would've been no AWD rallyata or all the other cool things being done.
Just for those kids watching at home, it isn't strictly the power level that breaks these differentials, it's the power delivery/driving style. Harsh dumping of the clutch at a sticky drag strip with sticky tyres increases the probability of these sorts of issues. Whereas pulling away from the line with some mechanical sympathy before stomping on the power will improve longevity of the diff as well as other such common failure points like the transmission.

Maybe, but even if it does it doesn’t really matter bc he only spent less than $50 and will make more than that on the video and there’s a chance it won’t break so this could really only be a good thing
naw def not gonna break. It's gonna take way more torque than he's making. Think about it. 1/4 inch thick aluminium in the middle, outside, and inside. Then add the support of the top and bottom, then add the support of the bits crossing the inner cavity. This shit dummy strong now. If anything he'll break an axle or ring gear.
Try preload launching. Hold ebrake and go to the clutch 'bite/grab' point, then release clutch even more to give momentary high preload and fully release the clutch. It should slingshot you out of the dig. Also, slip the clutch, don't drop it. It can't shock something, that is tensed up. Football kick can knock out a calmly standing person, but it won't knock out footballer with tensed up body prepared to hit a ball with his head. Same principle.
Heard James from the Cleetus channel recommend unbolting the rear sway bar at the drag strip to stop the wheel hop. You can find his break down on FasterProms video titled Assesing the Drivetrain Damage to Our Nitrous Miata at around the 4:05 mark.
When making the gasket for the diff arent you supposed to go past the holes on the inside not the outside so it does not leak from the bolt holes ? Correct me if im wrong
Looks awesome dude, I would recommend in the future preheating the aluminium before welding to get better penetration when working with such thick stock.
The diff housing isn't the only weak point of the diff. The caps that hold the centre in place (think main caps on a crank) are notoriously weak and prone to breaking
I think one big improvement of your drag times would be if you changed the final drive ratio. From the video on the drag strip i could tell that you were shifting way too much and didnt really get into boost for too long and lost a lot of time shifting.
yeah most miatas come stock with a 3.9 or 4.10 to compensate for the lack of torque in the little 1.6/1.8. Also, if I'm not mistaken, Gingium is running the 6 speed, which has the same gear ratio range as the 5 speed, just closer together with that extra gear. Those closer gears are great for staying in boost, but not great for 1/4 mile times. At the end of the day, miatas are cornering cars, so i doubt he'll want to change the rear end and sacrifice his torque out of corners
@@wowthtsgood 6spd mx5/miata require a different series of diffs to the 5spd. Top 6th is a much lower ratio than top gear in the 5spd box, so swapping the box alone causes problems.

i feel like when aluminum is stressed like that it may still break. Especially since the plates merely hold the sides and nearly the end of the ear of where it broke.

You don’t have suspension for drag racing don’t go crazy changing all that stuff. Maybe adjust coilovers/ soften the damping / softer springs / maybe ya got blown shocks? Tire pressure could also help as well.
