    I'm 45 and half way through treatment . Surgery 2025 xmas. Also found a brain tumour this year and herniated all the discs in my neck. Still carrying on with orthodontist treatment as waiting for this my entire life . Nhs been amazing and said they would only stop treatment if I felt I couldn't cope with the stress of my other health conditions, my ortho is always available to remove braves at a moments notice at neurological request as does cause issues with mris but luckily my tumour is in a place that doesn't really matter if the braces flashes up on the mri . Can't wait for my surgery and praying tumour doesn't grown on next April's scan .❤😊

    I had this surgery almost 7 years ago, and it completely changed my face for the better. I did however lose all sensation in the right side of my face, from my cheekbone down it's completely numb, lips and chin too. For anyone having this surgery, please understand this happening is very rare, I was just unlucky, and have since adapted to it :)

I don't know what people are whining about but if you have bite issues/self esteem/ sleep apnea whatever then just do it. Caveat is make sure you have a good surgeon who's done many of them prior. I had this exact surgery in 2003. I guess my surgeon wasn't very careful with those nerves. Lol i lost certain feeling in my face for yeeeeaaars.. but bow 15 years later it has repaired itself. Just a very slow process regaining sensation o n my cheeks... From what I remember, the surgery was extremely difficult. Granted I was only 16 at the time. But, if I coukd go back I would definitely do it all over again. I was doing acting and modeling at the time and already having dominant features, high cheekbones, and a strong jaw. The surgery helped my profile tremendously, giving a much more prominent jawline, and did help my self esteem. Having a dominant nose when your chin is pulled back slightly makes your nose appear muchb larger. Lol I believe the adjustment was only a few millimeters, but it definitely made a vast difference in appearance. Now, to this day at 32 years old I still get a lot of compliments on my features, being compared to certain celebrities like johnny depp, heath ledger, and others that have dominant facial features.

    • @NicholasWM2044
      @NicholasWM2044 6 лет назад

      olinda013 Not really, just keep doing what you're doing on researching the surgery. Be aware that every one reacts differently. I had a girl who had the same surgery in the same room and her swelling was soooo much less than mine. My dad was like wtf? My cheeks could be seen from the backside of my head the swelling was so bad. Lol do remember though my surgery was done 15 years ago and I'm sure they've improved like the medical field does with time.. Besides that just ask if you have any questions and I'll try to answer best I can.

    • @NicholasWM2044
      @NicholasWM2044 6 лет назад +1

      olinda013 one more thing, keep in mind the recovery is quite a process.. Ensure drinks become your best friend. Just make sure to keep your protein intake up because it's going to take a while till you can comfortably eat solid foods.

    Looks like a super delicate surgery 😳 I had braces like 10 years ago and they recommended this but my parents didn’t consent at that time and I’m thankful cause I now see how risky it is. I’ll just get a chin implant and fillers for my mentolabial to fix my side profile, seems safer.

    Hii.. i just got the surgery done yesterday.. and i can say that I'm fine.. as this is just the previous day of my surgery swelling is there, and pain?! ntng at all... your doctors will give general anesthesia while doing the surgery and you won't feel anything. and little numbness would be there for some 3 to 5 weeks.. and it isn't that bad.. for two days you need to have soft and liquid diet. swelling will go in 1week. no fears at all..!! :-) :-) am good inspite havin surgery yest,

    Good morning, I have a question, I hope you can answer it: I had a gummy smile, I showed a lot of my gum and three weeks ago they cut it by orthographic surgery, they also did a mentoplasty; before the surgery I could not close my lips in a natural way since my upper lip could not cover my teeth along my maxilla, now after surgery I can not close my lips even though they took 6mm of my jaw, I do not know if it will be because I still have to give time to the muscles of my face because I still have my bozo and my upper lip asleep, my question is: do you think that with time I can close my lips naturally?
    THANKS IN ADVANCE!

      @maryam1399 6 лет назад

      Dayana Morales Mentoplasty or Genioplasty? Did they use an implant or just your bone with some screws? If they use your bone they had tu cut bone and obviously it will get some time to your muscles to get familiar with the new position but you should ask your Doc.

And it was a bit annoying and weird. Nothing super drastic though, like it wasn't my whole entire face. Just few certain spots where they cut and did the work. But like I said, majority of the feeling has returned. It did take years to repair though. Not everyone will experience that. It depends on the surgeon, if certain nerves are cut, and other factors.

    • @an_bani
      @an_bani 6 лет назад +12

      I had the operation a year ago. Pain was not a problem. I got painkillers in the hospital but decided not to take them after the third day, because I didn't need them. The wirst part was the swelling and not beeing allowed to chew for 6 weeks. As for recovery that's hard to say. It takes around 4 months till you can chew ereything again (that includes real hard things). It takes 2 months for the swelling to be unoticable for strangers, 3 fir people who are close to you, and 4 till you feel like your face is back to normal. Also took me 4 months to get the feeling in my chin back. The screws can be removed after a year.
      BUT it was all worth it and everyday I'm glad that I did it! I didn't know that my jaw was causing me so much trouble bevor 'till I got it fixed. Chewing and speakin clearly are so much easier now. Plus it looks better
      It was hard, but I'd do it again without hesitation :)

      I didn’t feel pain at all probably because they injected some pain meds on my IV but when I get home, I still didn’t take pain meds...the 1st week was just uncomfortable because of the constant drooling, swelling and also I had a sore throat due to the breathig tube that they inserted during the surgery...I was on a no-chew diet for 6 weeks...it took me 3 weeks to gain back full energy...overall, my jaw surgery journey was not that bad...it was worth it ❤️ I’m very confident now and my lisp is totally gone 😊

      B.T. 333 from my understanding it would be more trouble and impact on the body to go under again, be cut open again, and remove them if they aren't having a negative impact.. the screws over time sort of fuse into the bone. It's like the people that need to have pins or a hip replacement or something. It becomes one with your body. So as long as your body doesn't try to reject the foreign material or it doesn't cause any discomfort then there's no need to risk going under and getting cut into if everything went smoothly.

    After the total completion of the procedure, including the post-surgery braces, how well do the teeth line up? If my lower front teeth were directly under my upper front teeth, the other teeth would have to be raised, not just moved laterally. Can that happen? Can gums grow under as well as around, if teeth are coaxed upwards with braces? I looked into this 15 years ago and was told that the teeth would no longer really line up as well - and that I'd have to get my lower back teeth removed (my wisdoms are already gone) in order for the surgeon to have room to work. So my lower jaw would be extended, giving more room, but having teeth removed to do it. That kinda sucks.
    Also, I was told a permanent retainer would be left in, otherwise the teeth would eventually migrate back - which sounds to me difficult to clean (floss) around. Is that what other folks found?

      Did you undergo Orthognathic surgery?

      @@user-03-gsa3 Nope. I'm not in any hurry and I'd want a lot more questions answered first. Plus COVID came along which affects elective surgery. And then there's the lack of money... Maybe some day.

      @@moxad do you have sleep apnea? You could get double jaw surgery covered/partly covered by health insurance IIRC.

      @@user-03-gsa3 I don't know - I've never been tested. It's just not important enough for me at this time, and surgery could very well make my TMJD worse.
