  • There's a ton of ways to flavor your home brewed cider, but one way I've never tried is by using dried fruit. Today I'll make a Strawberry Kiwi cider using only dried fruit, including freeze dried fruit, and the results are interesting...

      Definitely more cider videos. Ciders are a kind of interesting product as they are a lot easier to make than most think and can be flavored and spiced up in so many different ways. They're a great entry point to fermentation for a lot of people. Also, a great way to get rid of all those frozen fruit you've been saving for your smoothies for the past 5 years and are just about to use once you get back into smoothies any day now.

    Kiwi and Strawberry is one amazing combo of the cider!
    I would love to see someone like you to do mix with Strawberry but with Lemongrass, Blood Orange and Kaffir Lime Leaves!

    Great video! I've been experimenting with various fruits but haven't tried dried (didn't even think of that one). Frozen mango chunks blitzed into a pulp and added to the apple juice. Also 1 ltr of pure pomegranate juice added to 5ltr of apple juice was nice. But the best effect I've found is dry-hopping whilst the cider is actively fermenting to get that bio-transformation going. I found this gives a perceived sweetness and somehow boosts the fruit flavour too.

      Bro!! Same thing I've been doing to my ciders!! It's wonderful isn't it!!! It gives off different fruit flavors and makes the cider taste more beer like too!! Love it!! Any hop ideas!? I liked mosaic but can't really go wrong!!

    Do you have a preference to adding fruit upfront in the primary fermentation or adding after racking to secondary? What are the pros and cons for fruit in primary? I don't keg so I would be bottle carbonating.

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  Год назад +2

      Since you bottle I would say just do it all in primary. I tend to like to add it later since you can preserve some of the delicate flavors (especially if you stabilize) but if you can’t do that then you’ll still get great results with it all in primary.

    Air dried vs freeze dried, I believe there is more carmelization of the sugars with dehydrated because they are slightly “cooked” in the process.

    I used omega sundew yeast in a cider and the flavor profile I ended up with is awesome. Gave it a tropical fruit punch flavor with the apple.

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  Год назад +2

      Oh that was a great idea, haven’t tried that yeast yet but wanting to

    • @AlbeeSoaring
      @AlbeeSoaring Год назад +1

      @@TheBruSho Ive wanted to try both the sundew and bananza. My local shop doesnt carry them but northern brew does and I took advantage of the cold weather and ordered them. Fermentation of my bananza nutty brown ale is about done, hopefully that turns out like Im hoping also.

    • @Identace445
      @Identace445 Год назад +1

      @AlbeeSoaring I've done exactly that beer once! I use a little bit of nutmeg and vanilla... and don't be afraid to chop up a brown banana and throw it in before you keg it! Not too brown though!

    • @AlbeeSoaring
      @AlbeeSoaring Год назад

      @Gage spence good to know. So I'm guessing the banana yeast didn't give off much banana flavor? I was debating on putting cinnamon stick and maple extract in the keg. I'm going to put in secondary tonight so it sounds like I need to grab some bananas.

    • @Identace445
      @Identace445 Год назад +1

      @AlbeeSoaring yeah! Well I didn't have access to a killer yeast that could do the banana flavor..might want to see how that goes before adding the banana! Might not need it!! If the yeast is really that good at banana flavor!!

  • @wizardwatching6710

    I just boil the fruit in water I use to get the flavour and then leave it there during fermentation.
    Is that bad?

    How to prevent infection with dried fruits?

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  Год назад

      I don't think its a real concern, the yeast should outcompete anything on the fruit and the sugars in it will keep the yeast fed and happy

    How much do you think using dehydrated/freeze dried fruit translates to a lager, or beer in general? Opposed to frozen or fresh fruit?

    What do you use to back sweeten the cider with??? I use more apple juice most of the time.. after I stabilize of course! That way I can get a little more drink at a little lower ABV🤔🫡

    • @TheBruSho
      @TheBruSho  Год назад

      Depends, I don't always backsweeten since I prefer it more dry and tart. But I've used apple juice concentrate (the frozen can stuff) before and it works great. Or just other juice/fruit.
