You've done that before. Very interesting Mark. Thanks for showing me that. I actually knocked back a job today because it had some non-90 degree angles. I wish I had seen this first. I'm surprised your missus lets you do that on the table without a cover down. lol.
Great instructional video. It helped me a lot. One thing though, watch out for bright backgrounds to videos as they cause you to be in silhouette and difficult to see :)
...just take the angle, and figure out how much longer the front of the gutter is than the back..easily done with a speed square...then cut a 1inch over lap on one piece...get good at that method and you will not need a bucket of templates...great video!
Great video on laying out a template. Other than than that, not a very good looking corner. Cut more tabs on your tabbed side of the miter on the front face, and dont leave that tabbed flap on the other sides front face. Anything that hangs over after you fit it( maybe a 16th tops) knock over gently with your hammer. Trust me, it will look a lot cleaner and better. Just a little constructive criticism. Try it
agree, you dont need screws on the face or bottom of gutter (making holes for potential leaks) and seal laps before fastening. hope that mitter was going on a blind corner lol
I think you are missing the point of keeping them, because each sample matches up to the custom template that is made from it. Hence, when the sample matches up, you just grab the custom template that matches it and start cutting the miter right away.
Exactly, Meowpks. You get it. Are these guys unaware that there is a gaping crack connecting the two pieces of gutter together? As if a tiny screw hole is a more serious leak hazard than that gaping hole. Ha!
i usually make a square line in the back and transfer that line to the front by leaning my square to the front lip, make a 2.5 in mark either to the left or right depending on inside or outside mitre, then freehand cut it. (Most bays are 22.5 degrees). Put a bay strip mitre and wa-la, purdy as can be.
Hey! So I made a mistake & I painted & prepped a 4” gutter but need to connect it to a 5” gutter. The 4” runs on the side of my porch so no need for the 5” but the 4” mitre should still fit to 5” gutter to need more sealant?!
Mark: Thanks so much for posting this! I have to put some guttering on a couple of bay windows and I desperately needed this video. I was planning on doing the center piece first, then the pieces going back to the wall. Would it be better to make the folding tabs on both ends of the center piece?
Holy crap bro you making Mount Rushmore or what that took an hour like dam it’s a gutter not a work of priceless art. No need for all the rivets just use the gutter hanger place it right on the seam pressing both pieces flush as u screw it in.
Call that a good lookin miter. I would hope that the edge would b cleaned up other bangin it over with a pair of snips lol. But the basics were right I guess. Plus where the rivots at. Look way cleaner than zip screws
No need to make two seperate pieces. The back should be a bend line then just add 1" for the lap on the rest. Also to scribe the lines no need to measure out, you can use a piece of wood metal or anything that is 4" wide, or whatever, and just set one side on the angle line then trace the other side.......
Those look like offset aviation snips. Back in the day Craftsman made a really good set and were lifetime warranty but people would just break the tips off and get a new pair and that ruined it for everyone else. now they aren't even made by Craftsman anymore. I think Midwest still makes a good set and I've also found that Milwaukee even makes a set but I still like the old school Craftsman the best.
no need to make template or pattern .it is waste of time and money for materials we can do actually.we need to measured the degree or angle and that's the faster but anyway thanks for your video it helpful for the other beginner
Look, you are very, very confused about this. The reason you have these "v" shaped templates is that they match up with the actual templates that you have cut from them that allow you to immediately cut a miter that matches the angle of the "v" shaped template. What good is an angle finder if it doesn't match up with a template that allows you to cut the miter immediately? You are stating from square one with every angle that you come across.
In addition, you actually need a very small stack of these templates in the truck to account for myriad angles, because small differences in the angles can be easily compensated for when the miter is connected. Seriously, I don't understand what good an angle finder would be if you don't have ready-made templates with which to cut the miter immediately...
Are you saying that your gutter guys don't use any screws at all? Unless you live in a part of the country where it doesn't freeze, it is unconscionable not to use screws or pop-rivets. The freeze-thaw cycle on a roof in Colorado, for example, will blow the miter apart in a few weeks! Or, are you saying that your gutter guys use pop-rivets instead of screws? If that is all you are saying, then you should realize that you can pull zip screws and install 1/8" pop-rivets in the hole.
This is by far the stupidest comment I have ever received. As if a demo miter made in two minutes out of one foot of gutter is supposed to look perfect. I literally laughed out loud when I read your comment! Ha!
Cuando usted haga un angulo yo termino una casa Tiene que aprender a ser ángulos con sierra porque de verdad que estás perdido en el negocio de los Guttrers
From the way you spell, I can tell that you are not a native English speaker, so I don't really know how useful it will be to reply to you. I'll just say that this criticism is completely idiotic because it has no specific criticism at all. Get out your English-(whatever language you are writing) dictionary and then write a real comment in English. Cheers!
Asleep, Have you ever seen prefabbed miters?... they are ok if you want a patchwork at your mitered ends... to say nothing of the other patchwork stuff you dig using, like prefabbed outlet sections or what ever. Dude, learn something new.
Ha! I wouldn't exactly say that you write in English. Again, no criticism at all here. Just a wannabe throwing stones. If you really knew what you were talking about 1) you wouldn't be watching these videos in the first place!, and 2), you would state a real criticism of my work. Ha!
Ha! What are you doing watching videos on how to install gutter, then, "bro?" Again, and this is really pathetic, you offer no particular criticism of my method. Instead, you simply throw around insults. Here's a phrase that you should learn, because you are making a complete fool of yourself: AD HOMINEM ARGUMENT! Ha!
Mark Crovelli when you have haters writing negative insults that equates to you actually are doing a good job at teaching people on your trade. I heard Don Henley say that when the song “Hotel California “ first came out, the critics gave negative reviews. Both he and Glenn Frey said , “That’s great (for those negative reviews because that tells us that it’s really good”...and the rest is history...Be encouraged!
Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, Kid Rock, B.B. King and Mark Crovelli’s videos have thumb’s down and negative comments. I watch them all and like them.
I can't believe you call your company Gutter University. I hope your not charging people to teach them to do miters like that and I really hope your not installing those miters on home owners houses. I'm the last person to down talk other people work but those really are the worst miters I've ever seen. Box and strip miters are garbage but if your miters look like that you'd be better off using them. you could do every aspect of your gutters to look better and to function better
I assume that those zzzz's are due to your laziness. If you are just too lazy to learn how to cut miters by hand (which will save you money and time in the long run), then I encourage you to fall back asleep. Also, anyone who thinks it is acceptable to not put a screw in the bottom of a miter must not live in a cold state. Your miters will blow apart eventually when it freezes, and someone will call me to come fix your mess!
After 11 years, still the best instructor out there!!
thank you Mark Crovelli for posting this video! I was wondering how the heck I was going to make custom corners. LOL! Thanks again!
Thank you, you helped me immensely ! Have a good one.
You've done that before. Very interesting Mark. Thanks for showing me that.

I wish I had seen this first.
I'm surprised your missus lets you do that on the table without a cover down. lol.
Very kind of you to make these videos! I had never made a gutter miter before, but after watching your videos (the best on RUclips) I had no problem.
You rule Mark, you saved me $300. U r a true craftsman.
You know it's a real gutter guy when "it's much easier to do up on the roof" slips out from beneath his breath! lol
Bro it's the truth
Great instructional video. It helped me a lot. One thing though, watch out for bright backgrounds to videos as they cause you to be in silhouette and difficult to see :)
You sir, are a life saver. Thank you for your video!
thank you for this video Mark. This method definitely works. thumbs up!!!!
Thanks cause I literally almost had an emotional breakdown trying to do this. Hahaha
...just take the angle, and figure out how much longer the front of the gutter is than the back..easily done with a speed square...then cut a 1inch over lap on one piece...get good at that method and you will not need a bucket of templates...great video!

Very nice video , great help for me in future .Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for this video. So much value

Yeah that's what I was thinking!

This video was soooo helpful. Thank you so much! Very easy to look at, I mean watch ;)

No no lol no strip miters

Love your hat bro!
thanks for the video. ..it help me a lot

How do you know the length you have to pull on your overall measurement to compensate for the miter?
Well said, Hartsfield. Well said.
Hack!!!!! Slash!!!!!!! Looks like it was made with a can opener.
Holy crap bro you making Mount Rushmore or what that took an hour like dam it’s a gutter not a work of priceless art. No need for all the rivets just use the gutter hanger place it right on the seam pressing both pieces flush as u screw it in.
I can't believe I almost watched the hole video
caulking fixes that potential leak, just a tad bit of it. am i right? im newer to this trade
nice... great info bro.....
Call that a good lookin miter. I would hope that the edge would b cleaned up other bangin it over with a pair of snips lol. But the basics were right I guess. Plus where the rivots at. Look way cleaner than zip screws
Thanks!
For 6 in gutters do I measure 6 in! I always hand it mine also but always struggle with offset meters!
**cut**
Thanks man
I like the way he mad the template but that fold over on the outside looks like siht! Would you really try to sell that to a customer?
No, this is an illustrative video made in a kitchen in two minutes.
У задней стороны какой размер?
No need to make two seperate pieces. The back should be a bend line then just add 1" for the lap on the rest. Also to scribe the lines no need to measure out, you can use a piece of wood metal or anything that is 4" wide, or whatever, and just set one side on the angle line then trace the other side.......
What an insightful criticism! Ha!
Great video sir
how do you do a drop miter?
What type snips are you using?
Those look like offset aviation snips. is it the same process with 6 inch gutter?
yes
your templet method is great, but I would never cut and bend my tabs on the outside. looks horrible. other than that, great video.
So, how about a video for an acute angle.
no need to make template or pattern .it is waste of time and money for materials we can do actually.we need to measured the degree or angle and that's the faster but anyway thanks for your video it helpful for the other beginner
For most 33 degree custom miters it's as easy as 0,1,2
Look, you are very, very confused about this. fell asleep zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz did he finish it, screw in the bottom of a miter is a great spot for leaves to catch FAIL They sell 22 degree bay miters

super confused
What the he'll, what a mess
(N-2)×180/2 is our friend.
Could you explain your method ? Thanks

This is by far the stupidest comment I have ever received. As if a demo miter made in two minutes out of one foot of gutter is supposed to look perfect. I literally laughed out loud when I read your comment! Ha!
lol why don't u use a angle finder im Mexican u see?
Ya, move the drill!

Bad Job
