    Once again, an incredible and very inspirational Battle report
    I love the fact that you try to be as historically accurate as possible
    And that you modify the rules to provide a more strategic and interesting contest
    But there are two things that stand out that are just wonderful to see, and I wish more people would take a note of
    1. Not one mention of points.
    Put down what you think would be a fun game and go with it
    2, and the most important, not one assault rifle to be seen
    It gets tiring seeing so many bolt action battle reports with the Germans where Everyone is armed to the teeth with assault rifles.
    This has to be the best bolt action battle report channel on RUclips. Keep up the good work and more please

    • @dazvanderyoung1911
      @dazvanderyoung1911  Год назад +1

      Bloody hell thank you very much SGlusky and I’m not one for points and much prefer historical accuracy in games.
      I understand people like to play tournament games and army lists but I like to see scenarios something close to history.
      I do find the rules fun and flexible and use old school order of battle lists popular with Rapid Fire rules that I used to play over 20 years ago.
      I know exactly what you mean about unit armament or special units and its fair to say I won’t be doing a Pegasus Bridge game with Gurkha Paras anytime soon 😂

    By the way you are one of the best Bolt Action RUclipsrs!
    -Videos are Well edited with excellent camera angles and High def. detail
    -Miniatures are exquisite, I especially like that your vehicles are magnetized to those themed bases
    -but, it's your attention to realistic and authentic terrain that separates you from most
    Keep up the great work and good luck on any of your endeavors!

      Wow thank you joesphmarks3841 it’s genuinely appreciated and thank you.
      My table is usually 6x4 feet but this one was 8x4 as I added another MDF board on the end.
      I’m looking to do one soon that will be 8x5 feet just waiting on getting some new MDF sheets.

    • @joesphmarks3841
      @joesphmarks3841 10 месяцев назад

      Ok, my table is 6'x4', but I'll need to upgrade to a more sturdy table, still trying to decide on whether I should use carved MDF or gaming mats with modular pieces? Anyways I'm just getting started into the hobby, and have always had it in my mind, but wanted to wait to do the hobby right, and so I've saved money over the years and decided to go all in: Miniatures, Terrain, Paints, Airbrush, Foliage/Flock and of course time! There is a lot to this hobby and it can seem daunting at first, but for me and as with you it's an ongoing passion project. When I was younger I collected many of the 21st century toys and Forces of Valor Tanks, Vehicles and infantry, I also was a huge fan of the Miniatures and playsets from Conte Collectibles, I later got a little closer to the real thing when I reenacted American Civil War for about 8 years with my Father. So military history has been part of my life ever since I can remember. But, It's people like you that provide such an immersive experience for wargaming that has inspired me to get into this world of miniature wargaming, so thank you!@@dazvanderyoung1911

    I love the Duke of Gipton Regiment idea :) Outside the scope of the rules but I'm sure that some house XP rules could be created for a rolling campaign. And I thought for a minute you were going to say that the rubble bits (nice idea btw!) were hand painted :)
    Couple of 'technical' points - the MMG team FUBAR, they'd only go as far as the board edge and no further (unlike, say, in X Wing). The Firefly firing at Company C after entering the woods would give soft cover to the target as it's firing more than 1" through the woods. And finally! The two mortars, I use old acrylic X Wing (that game again!) target lock tokens to identify which mortar is which, and which spotter (if there is one!) is spotting for which mortar!

    • @dazvanderyoung1911
      @dazvanderyoung1911  Год назад

      Cheers Bazza and as it goes the rubble bits were painted/dappled to break up it just being small stone scatter etc.
      I’m going to do some proper mortar and barrage aiming markers for future as I don’t like using just a die and the ‘Dukes’ will be getting a new plastic converted mortar team rather than using the metal Crusader minis one.

      @dazvanderyoung1911  11 месяцев назад

      Cheers Joseph and glad you like the videos. As for the hard cover issue, I might have got it wrong but hard cover gives a to hit modifier and also adds a +1 toughness to wound (+4 regular troops become +5 veterans for the purpose of casualties from small arms I think and that’s certainly how I’ve played it?

    Love your videos - the terrain, pacing & style are great. One question - when the Panther fired HE against the building in turn 6, and rolled 12 hits, shouldn't that have brought the building down and killed everyone inside? See "HE Weapons Against Buildings" and this bit "If the total number of hits scored (before halving if the unit goes down) is ten or more then the building is blown to rubble and all infantry and artillery units inside it are destroyed." or do I have that wrong?

    I kinda skipped to the 1 hour mark but within a few seconds there was a major mistake. You can’t have 3 of your units shoot at a target at the same time for the sake of ease. You have to resolve each individually. This matter when it comes to taking an enemy unit down to 50%, pins and morale tests.
    I started the video ago and within about 10 seconds you realized your mistake.

      Yeah once I’d done it and filmed it, I had a ‘Doh’ moment and realised. I thought about re rolling and re filming but was pushed for time so just ‘fessed up’ on the next clip 😜

    31:25 AFAIK no german tank ( in WW2) used MG42 as their hull or co-ax MG's; applying the "Buzz Saw" rule seems inappropriate. (I don't play Bolt Action, it is just a casual comment).

    • @dazvanderyoung1911
      @dazvanderyoung1911  Год назад +1

      Simon I know they used MG34’s but in the rules they are classed as MMG (or MG42’s) for BA rules and I think they do this because the rule writers took the view the MG’s were static mounted within the tanks and therefore capable of increased rates of fire if that makes sense etc.

    is this played using 1st edition rules?

      No 2nd edition, but I know I’ve made quite a few mistakes as I often do when filming as I’m concentrating more on framing and recording etc.

      I know, I realised at the start of turn 5 I should have brought him on in turn 4? Only having 12 order dice and more units than dice adds some dilemma to decision making especially if you lose order dice during the game. Hope you enjoyed the video though.

    MMGs are considered FIXED, therefore they need a run order to move, but only move 6". So even though they had to run to retreat, they could only move 6", not 12. A unit has to be on the ground floor to exit a building, so, it should have stopped on the 1st floor.

      Yes I often make mistakes as sometimes when filming I’m concentrating more on that than the rules and only when I watch it back I realise etc.

    Not sure the mg team should have left the table and been lost. For one thing you measured 12" straight from their position but when you're on a second floor I thought you had to count going one level down as a 6 inch move, also not entirely sure but I always count entering or exiting any building as a 6" move to prevent people entering into buildings and miraculously being able to shoot from any window even top floors.
    Also I thought if you are forced to retreat you retreat "as far as you can before you're blocked" so the mg team should have just moved back away from the position to the wall? Maybe you are right to have them go further but I must say I haven't been playing it that way. I just make it so they run back, hit the wall and go "down" and then to fire they have to move back to a window/hole next round. (I.e. a fubar means they lose their setup positions and must move back when they wish to fire again)
    I would have to look it all up to be sure but I'm pretty confident even if you do make them run the full12" it should have been 6 " to ground floor then 6" away from the exit. Meaning they stay on the map. Course I might have it wrong!!! Lol
    Great table and models btw. Very nice!
    Love the way you introduce and show off the models at the start , for me ALWAYS the part i enjoy most in bat reps as im more into the painting than anything.
    LOVE the idea of marking the units by name, does mean you need to get the uniforms and everything even more accurate tho, means youre forced to not use a stand in unit if the livery doesnt match (e.g. the tanks etc) , i love it but once you set a precedence it might limit your videos iif later you want to use a normandy based unit in say italy. But saying that, being too pedantic is my problem too!!😂 i have half a dozen tigers and 2 are snow livery, 2 normandy type, 2 desert , i should be able to field 6 in a game but for me i just couldnt do it!!! Lol i couldnt put 6 different tanks in a single battle!! Hehe
    I might have to give you a link and show you my huge collection!! I have so many tanks and armies i think i might have a problem 😅😝
