I’ve been waiting for this one! I seem to be the epitome of a cadence runner with a short stride (I’m 5’3” 101 lbs) but a very quick and efficient turnover. I’m crossing my fingers that this will be the first CP shoe that works for me because everything you describe seems to apply to me! I love the Takumi Sen8 for 5/10K’s but have been searching for a marathon shoe that will improve on the Endorphin Speed. Martha
Enjoyed watching the deer crossing in the background behind the shoe's heel counter 13:20-13:36. Great review! This will likely be my next marathon racing shoe!
Always enjoy your reviews. I’m a way slower runner, my 10km fast pace is 4:30 min/km, but 80% of my interest in running is in the material. How different shoes give different rides and experiences. I love the race shoes and use them during my training since I rarely do any real races. Last year I enjoyed Metaspeed Sky quite a lot and now when the Plus version came my local store had 50% off on version one so I bought another pair just for fun to use during normal training. Some everyday luxury :-) Your review made it expensive for me though, now I just ordered Metaspeed Sky+ AND Edge+ directly from ASICS. This will be great fun to try them side-by-side. I always thought I was a stride runner, but I filled in my stats in ASIC Excel-sheet, and it seems I’m 50/50 between stride and cadence.
Thanks Magnus! I am about your pace these days in races. Amazing innovations in run shoe tech these days and also more sharply differentiated experiences. Please let us know how the Edge+ and Sky+ turn out for you. Sam
Real Everday Runner Review from the UK: I am nothing to do this channel, Asics or any shop I am an everyday runner, who keeps seeing people not giving the real information about the Edge+ & only comparing them to either the Sky+ and or Nike Vapour & or Alpha. The Edge+ is in a league of its own. This is why these are so good for people who are shorter in height than average & or quite light, Male BMI around 23-27 & or Cadence 180+ when on Tempo, then 184+ as you increase up to Threshold then these shoes are going to make a big difference. Side note you will get a whole more out of them if you regularly do speed work ie Track, or Intervals & or Threshold work, these are not for the everyday or plodder shoe. I find the Edge+ starts to come alive at 7.30 min/pm pace, however holds me really stead at 8.00 min/pm, which is around 40 seconds quicker than my Speed 2 & Kinvara 12's. I have managed to get 4.20 min/pm on strides and short bursts & really felt in control whilst doing those speeds. You really need to understand if you are a bounder, if you bound as you run, then again this shoe will not be the right one, choose the Sky+. If you are smoother and a short strider ie 1.2m - 1.4m the Edge + will encourage you to turn over your legs more ie Cadence, simply run with it, build up your strength and get used to faster legs, the speed will be there & also you will find it a whole lot easier. I hope this comment helps people understand the difference. The first time I did a run with these shoes, I found my whole running mechanics had to adapt, in a good way, second run I was faster & third was a race, where I came in 6 mins faster than planned. I trust this will give you an idea, why I keep commenting on them. Good review by RoadTRailRun, just needs to be more about the Edge+ on its own, nothing else out there compares at the moment.
dude, thanks a lot, i dont do much strides, as i always overstride, so im focussing on cadence, got edge plus today, wll see how i got, im not speedy, in the superbast i could only do 5/km pace in a 5k, 24min 5km in superblast with cadence of 185
Why are you making it sound like only short light people would benefit from these. They aren't the only people who run high cadence and shorter strides. I'm 105kg 182cm tall and am a cadence runner. I think I would definitely benefit from these. I get on great with low drop rockered shoes.
Awesome review, I always appreciate your perspective. I'm quite a slow runner these days now that I've become a cyclist. I'll be giving these a try. Also noted that Asics made these unisex this year. So now it will be more difficult to get a pair
Thanks Kim! There is no reason « slower » runners can’t enjoy and benefit from super shoes but they can’t be to extreme and focused on those with perfect form as some are
@@RoadTrailRun love your reviews here and on the website Sam. Always great attention to detail. Great review and tipped me towards the edge + 😉 this time around. Have the Sky 1 but i felt i only utilized half of the toe and had to reach to utilize the whole forefoot roll . My question is , how does this edge + feel compared to the Metaspeed sky 1 since the edge+ added more stack height ?
Amazing review. I like so much Vaporfly Next 2 but I'm very interested in Edge+ because for your thoughts seems that the toe spring effect and the soft and comfy ride of this is the most similar with the Next%. Adios Pro 2 is different, Rc Elite 2 is too much softer and Vaporfly is fast, comfy and agile shoe with a lot of impulse. If Edge+ is similar at Vaporfly will be the next shoe for my competences. Thanks a lot Sam. Really you made a great job. I'm a cadence runner (200 ppm on full marathon).
How is the length on the Edge+ for the size? The only Asics shoe I have owned is the Novablast 2 I was very surprised at how long those were in my normal size. Even going a 1/2 size down they are very roomy.
My running shoes have always been neutral. I tried the Nike Vaporfly running shoes and they were soooo aggressive that the strain on my heel area caused a lot of problems. For me, they were very difficult to wear for long distance runs The Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 has been the perfect running shoe. So much so … that I bought as many as I could as they were being phased out I am now looking for a new running shoe. Is the Asics Metaspeed Edge comparable to the Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 ? Does anyone have any thoughts on a comparable running shoe to the old Saucony Men's Endorphin Pro 2 ? The strike was great ... not sooo aggressive that it put enormous pressure on my heels
I would like to become more of a cadence runner thus I'll consider buying the Edge + to help move myself in that direction instead of lengthening my stride and risking injury not landing below my body well. PS I am assuming these were TTS however some Asics have been a mystery on the sizing.
CTM Ultra is at 40/30 although 2mm more drop with the Craft. Also note the Edge has a rigid carbon plate while the Craft has a PEBA foam insert between walls of light EVA Our review: www.roadtrailrun.com/2022/05/craft-ctm-ultra-2-multi-tester-review.html
Hi Sam, do you think de Edge+ is ok for someone who tends to pronate a little? Is for example more stable than vaporfly and endorphin speed (I loved them both but I had problems with them because the pronation). And finally, regarding stability and comparing with sky plus: is the edge + better?
Absolutely as in the video for me the most stable super shoe yet and yes more stable than VF or Speed for me. Sky+ I have note tested but our Nils Scharff has and we just posted his review. He has commentary about stability. www.roadtrailrun.com/2022/06/asics-metaspeed-sky-in-depth-review-is.html
Hey Sam, thanks for the great initial thoughts. You seem to have highlighted the post I've been feeling in regards to foot strike. I think, taking the cadence and strike elements out of it, if you land mid foot or slightly further back, the 5mm drop on the sky will not give you the same results and benefits as someone who's naturally up on their toes. So I'm thinking that the Edge + would be the better option for someone like myself who is mid foot, the high drop should be throwing us forward more? I actually ran my last marathon in the sky and even though I didn't go all out because I was returning from injury, I never got a feeling of it throwing me forward like a vaporfly. Would you say the new Edge has more stable ride through the mid foot and heel than the vaporfly and the adios pro 2?

Thanks Martha! Agree also TS8 also works for me but I find the Edge+ easier to turn over and roll less rigid yet

Thank you Sam. Helped a lot to decide between Sky and Edge. Going to give the Edge a try.

Great review! Thanks for pointing out the drop. I think the higher drop alone with the Edge+ leads me to consider this Vs the Sky+.🤔🤔🤔
Great review, I don’t normally comment, but the comparison to other shows help with the decision
Thanks Yousef!
Thanks sam, i have vaperfly 2 but will be buying the edge plus am cadence runner think will be more stable too..thank you 👍
Nice review..hopefully it will be what the edge V1 wasn't which was a brick..probably my most anticipated shoe this year..
Killer colour combo. Learn something Hoka!

The version one was half size small, but ASICS fixed it at the second version to be TTS. I’d say the fit is the same as Novablast this time around.

When you were walking in these shoess did you at any time feel the plate? Or, do you only notice it when you're at speed?
Would you pair any one of these with the Glideride v3 and how?
