Nope, nope, nope...30-40 years ago I'd have said, "Hand me a paddle, Y'all watch this!" 😄 😄 But I did love watching this! Freaking awesome runs! And people!
I really liked your final comments. especially the analogy using rolling a kayak is like dealing with life's struggles. sometimes its easier to pull the skirt off and escape the problem but sometime you hang in there and struggle with the problem and come out on top! #paddleOn I need to learn to roll...
Amazing video, amazing characters! I ran into your videos on RUclips a while ago. Beside the beautiful images what I enjoy the most are two things (50:50): Your narrations/lyrics and your dirty laughter which is second to none! Keep on paddeling and help us to dream our dreams!
This is a cool perspective to see the Gorge from. I grew up here and used to run the stairs for conditioning for high school basketball. Of course I didn’t get into kayaking until I left one of the best kayaking areas in the country-the Blue Ridge mountains.
I found my heart rate increasing and the hair standing up on the back of my neck as I watched this.... This is definitely not amateur hour. Living vicariously through your videos Pete.
It`s great to see you again after long break, perfect paddle, and one of the best scenery to go kayaking. Very difficult river, and I love it. I have to watch all videos I missed. Best wishes!
Hey Pete! A good buddy and I are looking to do our PFDS on tallulah this Saturday. Was wondering if you know of anybody that’s going to be out there that may be willing to show us down. Really just need a group to tag along with for extra safety.
Hey Shower! There will be a ton of folks out there. It can be tough to get someone to show you down on a run like that if they have not paddled with you before or know someone that can vouch for you. I am joining an already full group myself.
How can I learn to do this. I just moved to Georgia 6 months ago from Indiana. Spent a lot of time in a recreational kayak in small rivers and streams. Not a lot of white water opportunities. I'd like to find a group and learn. I live in Atlanta area.
I would suggest linking up with Kayak Georgia Facebook group. They have a ton of folks doing all different kinds of kayaking and runs of different levels of difficulty. They would be a great resource for you to start with!
Hey there-- me again. lol. I have done rafting on rapids.. and duckies on upper new. I have done maybe class 1-3 in kayak. I have never run anything more serious in a kayak. I am very interested in learning more.. someday. So, watching this episode and especially Oceana (V+). how much control do you have entering that wave... are you just trying to stay steady and upright? are you directing yourself once you enter a wave like that? just curious... love watching you and the rest co-exist with the beast!
Thanks Hans! Once you hit "the thing", you go into whiteout and have to rely on feel. You know the hit is coming at the very bottom. In a situation like that, just keep whatever body posture is needed and be ready to react when you feel the kayak engaging whatever comes next...newer paddlers usually just hold on for the ride! There is only so much you can do in something like the thing...all the work is done in your approach (boat placement, boat angle, edging, body attitude, paddle placement, etc..._ and the rest takes care of itself.
Not 100% sure it has been done. But I saw a line and know it could be done. The problem however is that it is highly illegal and and run on those would likely result in a negative for our few releases that they allow us already. That river is unfortunately on a pretty severe lockdown. You literally have to stay on the trails, fill out a permit to be there, and it only runs about 6 times a year on the recreational releases...
@@RiverKingsKayak ahhh that makes sense I can totally see that now, when I first saw it, it looked like a hockey helmet but now I see it haha 😆 I’m not much of a “team sports” kinda guy so I probably wouldn’t have noticed on my own lol
@@RiverKingsKayak it’s the boat man, it does things to a person. He’s got a OG that looks equally as dope too, you should see him shred the upper gauley in it. Much impressive.
Dennis took me down the Watauga the first time, great seeing him again.
Very cool!
So pumped for this episode was such a privilege to boat with the river kings!!
Likewise brother!!

Thanks Josh! Just get after it and you will get there!
@@RiverKingsKayak it looked like there were some fellow Gen Xers in the group that was encouraging.
What an awesome run…well done with Oceana. I might have portaged!
Thanks FMJ! No shame in that!
Great video
Thanks John!
Love seeing you out there with such a great group! When are you getting your own bucket hat? I hear that's the fashion these days.

Thanks for the plug, Pete! Up to 28 now… seriously, great video- how did you get George W. Bush to do the voiceovers?
:)
Right on brother! cant wait to get on a river with you guys!
btw, Double U is a big fan...he is sort of bored these days and flies in to do the voice-overs...
I’ll bet he gets together with jimmy carter for secret chattooga runs like the old days.
