you are never too old to start, the only difference will be that you will paddle a grade lower runs its not about what gnar you run, its about having fun, and as a beginner you have fun even on slightest wave, then you progress as much as you feel like it, some do it fast, some stay where they are at the end, its all about having fun with the right people :)
I'm guessing it's less of a race and more of a training session The safety crews are just spotters like in gymnastic training where you are expected to fail so you can learn what not to do. I guess if you limited this to the actual competent the race would take about 15 mins.

Dam that's the way to do extreme and have a TON of SAFETY i dont kayak at all and Id be tempted to try this with all the GREAT experienced people.
