The national flag should be given free to all Singaporean households to display them . Sad to see so few Singaporean households displaying our national flag on this important day.
By displaying the flag, we are showing how happy we are to be independent, not under any other country's rule.
Could it be their flags have faded or worn out? Or they have not possessed one before and do not know where to get it? Have a survey to find out reason to get a solution .

We got ours free long ago. I think it was the 25 year celebration. Almost everyone in my block put out the flat. Hooks have been drilled into the windows for this purpose. We were one of the last few units to put it up. More due to embarrassment if we dont do so as almost everyone did that. Ever since they stopped giving out new flats I think.

Sean Thanks for information. We bought ours years ago at $3, but faded and torn now. We are among the 2% displaying the flag, doing it almost a day or 2 before the day. Unlike you, we see no flag displayed to remind us.
We have to admit that we are not responsible enough to do that once a year thing. We can try to do something for our household next year. But what about the other 98% . I cannot do anything. If an ordinary citizen like me can notice that situation, surely the grassroot leaders should have noticed it too and do something about it

Winnie Yeo Oh my story happened during that free flag years. I didn't look out for flats for flags now on my block. I think some of the flats facing the main roads would have flats hanged up by the town councils

Sean What I see is a failure to educate Singaporeans the purpose of hanging out the flag. It should come from the heart of every Singaporean, pro or anti govt. This is one way to unite us. It should not be done only on blocks of flats along the main roads as a decoration for National Day.
