You guys are smaller than HALF of my hometown island of Oahu. HALF. You are smaller than New York or Los Angeles but you have universal health care (I haven't had medical insurance since my parents died), 9O% home ownership (I sleep in my minivan), one of the largest refineries in the world (I used to work for Chevron, a socially undesirable company), a desalination plant (so why is water so expensive?), a zoo, an amusement park, driverless subway trains which appear every 4 minutes, bilingualism, F-15s patrolling the skies and soon to get F-35s. And i'm a fan of architecture. I will spend much time when I visit a city looking at its buildings. You Singaporeans should be proud of the Shophouses. Such intricate detail. Most modern buildings that stand next to them pale in comparison. Lastly, I'd like to say that Hawaii is very green, but Singapore's architects make the green go up: much hanging vines and trellises for them such as on the Oasia Hotel. Sky high gardens on the Pinnacle, vertical gardens of vegetables on rooftops. Lee Kuan Yew was very firm, but I think most would agree that his vision for Singapore proved profitable & appealing. I did see a video of him saying that gays are born gay and should be left alone so he was much more tolerant than most hard-liners. Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew was the right man for the right time. "Whoever governs Singapore must have that IRON in him. This is not a game of cards." You gotta love that man. I do. And I ain't Singaporean. Happy Birthday, Singaporeans!

I think that the 2 songs are different in a good way, because they each signify the year that they debuted. 2018 was more or less a prosperous year for the country, so the song reflects us looking into the future, while 2020 doesn't need more explanation. So the song is focused more on looking at overcoming the current crisis. The new, slightly sad tone might not fit everyone, but it does do a good job of reflecting how the year has been not just for Singapore, but for the whole world.

people complain about originality but i mean sometimes we have to revisit our roots and this song is kinda like what Singapore is we have to be resourceful, sometimes adapt on ideas from other countries (When NS began we needed help from Israel, our cuisene, etc) but molding it and leaving our touch on it to make it uniquely ours and also keeping our past in mind to keep driving toward the future. they definitely cant do this every year, but in over fifty years if this is the first time personally I'd say it's fine plus they did such a great job at it!

At first glance it might seem the producers of this video sought out only the beautiful people of Singapore, but I know the truth is that every person has beautiful moments and we just need the patience to wait for them and the presence of mind to notice and appreciate them. Everyone has ugly moments too, which is why understanding and forgiveness are not only beautiful but necessary. I haven't been to Singapore since 1982, but have been blessed by wonderful Singaporeans in many ways through the years. I like the overall arrangement of the new version, rather moving actually. The pledge doesn't sound too heavy of a rap like what I read from comments, so it's not too bad. We recite the pledge anyway, so a little rhythm isn't too bad...:) 1:06 sounds like inspired from Coldplay Magic song at 1:25, that's why sounded kinda familiar the first time I heard this version. As someone commented too, it'll be better if the ending is more climatic.
This is the definitely the top 3 ndp songs in my opinion. The lyrics , tune everything is perfect. Listening to this after 5 yrs gives me goosebumps. Thanks for the effort you put in. :)

I like the overall arrangement of the new version, rather moving actually. The pledge doesn't sound too heavy of a rap like what I read from comments, so it's not too bad. We recite the pledge anyway, so a little rhythm isn't too bad...:) 1:06 sounds like inspired from Coldplay Magic song at 1:25, that's why sounded kinda familiar the first time I heard this version. As someone commented too, it'll be better if the ending is more climatic.
This is the definitely the top 3 ndp songs in my opinion. The lyrics , tune everything is perfect. Listening to this after 5 yrs gives me goosebumps. Thanks for the effort you put in. :)
Its literally a remix of an original song, what makes you think its so "good", they should be making new songs not remaking and become more westernised
