As an individual who often went with his father to hunt for..., it was always about food for the family, period, that's all! One way or another, meat was going to be purchased at the supermarket or... I myself thought it to be more humain to take take from the wild, killing instantly rather than subjecting an animal to captivity prior to killing. To think an animal could die from...? Say, starvation or have its life ended by a hunter was more humain! I say hunting for animal game for..., is the more preferred method to harvest meat, however, not realistic given the amount of meat desired by consumers in today's modern world. All hunting seasons play a crucial roll in the management of animal population control, to see that others in the herd don't suffer, die from...? 😮

We are finding ourselves moving towards uncertain times. Hunting may be a necessary skill that we all should hope to have. I grew up in a house full of hunters. My dad supplied many meals with his hunting and fishing skills. I am so thankful for that. I wish my husband would have known this we may have been able to feed our four children better through the growing up years. Life was not easy for us back then.
What I see here are parents who pass down traditions, skills, crafts and trades. These children will know how to be self sufficient in the times that are coming upon this earth. I see alot of people scrambling to learn homesteading ways while they can. Joas, you and Priscilla have incorporated all these things into your children's lives as just part of everyday living. And you did it all while just simply having fun and enjoying family time. It's been a pleasure watching you raise your family in part. I have so much respect for you both. ❤

Your story was beautiful for a perfect hunting trip. My though is that to many people hunt for fun. They have never shot a gun and aren’t able to hit the side of a barn. They think it’s cool to wound the animal- draw blood. So sad. I know many people that tell the story of how they got him, they follow the blood trail but couldn’t find the animal. So sad left to suffer It would be nice if people were serious like you

  • @peterwhite9261

We grew up respecting the hunt as a means to provide for our families. Unfortunately, Caribou got over hunted in Labrador, and very strict restrictions were placed to protect the remaining George River Herd.
The tundra and wildlife are so similar. However, your mountains are higher.
That was very tricky for the oil truck driver. I have been on roads like that in the past. Not fun!
I am so glad Avalon got to go for her first hunt. You did awesome, dear.
You did get some awesome pics. They could be enlarged and framed and sold if you want.
Those hikes can be killers at times, but they do help build your endurance.
You didn't get your caribou, but you all got all of those precious memories that are priceless.
    Blessings to you all.❤

Speaking of hunting.. In 1971, my husband was in the USAF, we got stationed at Elmendorf AFB. We both grew up as city kids in the Los Angeles area of California. Well, being we were now in the wilds of Alaska, my husband bought a shotgun, rifle, hand guns, ammunition loading machine, etc. The first hunt was rabbits, with the shotgun. We got 4 rabbits, and cooked them much as one would cook a stewed chicken making a nice gravy. When we were finished eating and I was transferring the gravy to a refrigerator storage container, I had all these little metal balls in the bottom of the pan! That was unexpected!
