7:05 the torque spec for the fill bolt is 11.1 ftlb and it is stated in the publicly available service manual online. As well as additional steps to this procedure not shown in this video.
As stated on Tesla's website: "Tesla vehicles require no traditional oil changes, fuel system maintenance, spark plug replacements or emission checks". Technically, you dont need to change the oil in the drive unit. Anything that has to do with the drive unit and its oil, will be covered under its 8 year guarentee. On top of that, if tesla finds out you swapped the oil yourself and did not use Tesla approved oil, you could void your DU warrenty.
@sebastianocarreiro8061 😂 life time coolant and oils are scam. If you change car before warranty no one care about maintenance. Let other take that shit.
@@sebastianocarreiro8061 If it fails because the recommended service is not done it will not be under warranty. Did you see how black his oil was that he drained?
Do not do what you saw at 4:55 where the oil filter was hand tightened "as tight as you can" -- that oil filter was quite over tightened, it doesn't need that much force.
As a 2020 Tesla M3P owner, I'm a little confused. Does the drive unit oil need/should be changed? The Tesla owners manual does not state this needs/should be changed but I want the most longevity of my drive units. Should this be changed? There's multiple videos online about changing the drive unit oil and filter but they do not state when and why it needs to be changed.
A lot of the tesla owners don't see over 100k, maybe why they dont say anything about it, but this is a simple good way to keep your drive motors last a bit longer.
Tesla doesn’t want anyone to maintain their cars until 100k warranty has passed 😅 be smart and change atf fluid asap, every 40k to 50k. I’ll change atf fluid ATF 9 on my 22” model y, 50,560 mi next week.
@gerbertmorataya9636 i used something cost effective that is compatible, but when in doubt use pentosin 9, but the synthetic i used is compatible so far so good :)
@@car-loyeah, it’s compatibility for ZF 9 speed type. If Tesla finds out you are using a different ATF, may void your warranty. I’d use Pent 9 fluid to keep you safe from getting voided.
Thanks for the video. My 2020 Tesla Model 3 has 160K miles on it. Thinking about doing this service. How many miles your Tesla has? How much was the oil filter?
Amazon aftermarket is like below 30 bucks, i havent check to see if there are other types of filter that would be same size yet, ebay has oem ones for around almost the same price.
Human beings do not use their neurons. After the warranty expires, Tesla does not care if you changed the oil or not. If it broke because of this or that, I will sell you a new one. That is your problem.😂
Tesla Drive Unit warranty. 4 years or 50,000 miles. Not life time of the car. Just like BMW transmission, it said life time fluid. But the warranty only 3 years or 36,000 miles.
@@car-lo what is the mileage interval when this service should be done ? I have a 2024 model 3 rwd. ATF-9 can be used on this also? I belive this service at the tesla service center is like $500 ish so i'll be doibg this myself
They sell the pentosin 9 at Amazon, 30k might be ideal to service it? But i dont believe lifetime oil if you are planning to keep for longevity. Your car is fairly New, unless u have high miles. Wow that is alot for oil change.
No, it’s a parallel gear drive with helical gears, much like a modern transverse engine automatic’s differential. To reduce friction the OEM fluid is some sort of ATF.

Did you fill the filter first? There's some oil in there, too, so maybe just measuring what dripped out wasn't enough?
The filter was drained on my oil catcher upon removal. Thanks!

Good question, I have a 2023 M3 Performance, and I'm about to hit 30k. I think I'll do it at 30K.

I went to Tesla service center and got the filter for $15 over there

Looks to me that the transmission fluid that you used is not ATF-9. Isn't it required to use AFT-9 fluid?
This one i got is atf-8-9, there are same bottle without that label in the back. I bought the one with atf 8-9 label.
does it need to use Toolbox 3 after oil and filter replace?
I didnt use the tb3 after this.
