    I’m 35 now I rode a little bmx when I was younger. I havent done anything outside of just riding a bike since I’ve been like 18. Also I broke my foot,ankle and leg a few years ago and riding a bike is pretty much the only athletic form of exercise I can really do anymore. Just got a dj this spring, up until a couple weeks ago I’ve only been just riding it trying to get some muscle back in my atrophied leg. Been riding a pump track now for the past couple weeks. And it feels so good to get two wheels off the ground again. Can’t quite clear the tabletops on it yet but I’m definitely getting there.

    I really liked how you emphasized how DJ bikes are really low barrier... It's very true... DJ bikes are cheap, tough, and versatile, and the frame designs haven't changed drastically in 20 years... Now i need to dig my old frame out and build up a DJ bike again... Thanks, ya jerk 😂

    Back before I spent all my money on bikes (so like this time last year) I bought a really nice, brand new, Commencal DJ. I haven't had the confidence or skills to really ride it much until recently, when I've finally started to master actually clearing some jumps on my bigger bikes, including my e-enduro. I just took it to the 'big' BMX park near where I live, and it's a crazy amount of fun. The one thing that most of the pump tracks and the like near me lack, that the park in this video has in spades, is a long enough roll-in so you can get comfy and get satisfied with your speed. Everywhere around me has these little tiny launch pads and these short runways. It's kind of a bummer.

    I have a dirt jumper, a really nice one that I acquired in a trade. I have nowhere to ride it, but I’m pushing for some localities to build something here. I’m “old” at 38 but I don’t care, I like bikes and I want to ride all kinds. Please continue the basics series!

    I have a dj myself, I essentially have custom built up a 2023 Norco Rampage (frame is essentially just like the only stock bit apart from headset and stem) and i would buy it again, its amazing how simple these bikes are for the experience and good for riding.

    Here in Idaho Falls ID, we finally got a mountain bike park last summer. And a Ryder bike park, but it still under construction. It is coming along nicely, hence the reason I bought the YT industries Dirtlove core 2. I am 52 now and its been a long time since I've been to the bmx track. Thinking I might start there before hitting the bike park 🤔

    Just rode my first DJ at local indoor bike park. Loved it for being something different I’ve tried. Coming from MTB and Gravel/Road riding. Is the new Intense DJ a good bike to start with? I don’t mind spending $1300-1500ish on used bike.

    How suitable is a rigid retro 26er MTB for dirt jumping? Like, have you brought your Rockhopper to that park, or with old geometry less trail etc would that just be a face plant?

    My question: how do you successfully jump a hip? I crashed hard on one at a bike park and messed up my hand and lost my confidence so any advice would be appreciated!

    • @OmnieStar
      @OmnieStar 9 месяцев назад

      The best way to look at a hip IMO is to think about it like going around a corner... But jumping in the middle. A lot of people try to full 90 turn and end up crashing cause the momentum is still going straight and they just landed sideways. So you wanna hit the lip in a way that will send your momentum at the landing. So best way to start is to hit a hip like that one that has an easy corner to cut over and slowly work your way to the outside "or in this hips case, the right side" and making the gap bigger and bigger. Honestly they are easy. Just not as easy as your brain wants you to think it is. lol. There are a few instances were the hip forces you to hit it in the opposite way that I just said. but those are very steep lip hips that basically stop your forward momentum mid air and allow you to do the 90dagree turn and land safely. If anyone has more advice please add on!

    • @Thematty635
      @Thematty635 9 месяцев назад

      I like to think as I'm going upthe lip which hand I have to pushdown do the wheels are the right angle to meet the ground, so a lip that's straight and the landing is sloping down left ill lush left hand down and left shoulder follows to tip me and the bike down to the landing. It's not perfect but helps me to at least get into the landing zone ish

    How's a dirt jumper for street riding and generally riding around doing manuals and bunny hops?

    • @JustJake77
      @JustJake77 9 месяцев назад +3

      They work well for it. The geo is designed for it. For example, the bike he is riding in this video is called the Giant STP.... S reet T rail P ark... I used to have white frme the exact same and did everything with it.

    • @OmnieStar
      @OmnieStar 9 месяцев назад

      If you wanna do all that and still be able to ride longer distances, you might wanna think about a normal hardtail. With the saddle down its basically the same. Just bigger, less agile, and you can get a dropper post to make life sooo much easier on longer bike rides on flat ground or just street riding. Unless your young enough that you don't care about your back yet and can deal with the lean over standing ride for long distances LOL. But for street tricks or like riding through the city, dirt jumper is BEST.

      I had 2x stp 0, a 13.5" & 14.5" frame. The 13.5 was great on pump tracks, both were good at dirt jumps, the 14.5" was better for general street riding, I put a dropper on the 14.5"and sram x9 shifting with a narrow wide chain ring and rode it to work for about 10yrs. Great affordable all round bike.

    • @OmnieStar
      @OmnieStar 9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes. Just gonna have to work a little harder at not giving up. I assume once your are "fit" enough to not just die from riding the bike... Then your fine! Just remember, Stiff is BAD! If your stiff or rigid, you crash. Or OTB. Don't lock you You gotta pump that bike! Depending on the jump anyway. Bike park jumps are a bit different from these kind of BMX'ish style jumps. IMO
