Thank you for this video, I replaced my Steering wheel buttons multiple times thinking they were all faulty...but now you have shown me the real problem why my lights aren't lighting up.. truly truly Thank you.. 😊 🙏 Also my 06 tahoe thx you. 😊
Thank you many times! The only thing I would add is if you cut out the fuse very carefully you can pull of the push on caps for the fuse and just put in a new fuse push on the caps and tape up. I for one made the wires longer and put in a fuse holder that I can now reach above my brake pedal. Never know if you'll need to change it in the future. An OOPS! Thank You for info NO ONE KNEW anything about.
A simpler and less expensive alternative is to just get a new blade fuse, then put female spade connectors(preferably the ones with a plastic shield) at the end of the wires where you cut out the inline fuse. With a little bit of finesse, you can then heat shrink the 2 spade connectors side by side at the correct spacing to create a makeshift fuse holder. Or you can just connect the connectors to the fuse and heatshrink the entire thing or wrap it in electrical tape since it likely won't blow again. And even if it does, cutting the wrapping to get at the fuse is still pretty easy.
I had the original inline fuse still laying around from when I replaced it, so I decided to cut it open and take a look. Turns out that it's just a glass fuse directly connected to the wires. It's a 2amp fuse so that is the size you should get for the replacement. A blade fuse and 2 female spade connectors is the easiest method. Adding 2-3 inches of extra wire is also a good idea.
THANK YOU! I blew that little fuse also when I broke the clip pulling out the bottom right switch. Somehow I got it back in and the lights didn't work. Did this fix and they all work.
I have a 2007 Chevy suburban and my steering wheel controls won’t work cruise control, horn and volume for stereo do you think my truck also has that fuse you replaced
In that truck if your horn doesn’t work I know they actually have a fuse under the hood for the horn alone now if it’s not blown I would say either the clock spring could be damaged but same as this truck it’s hard to say I’m not 100 percent sure if they do
Thanks for the video. My question is if all the knobs on my steering wheel are lit, but only the vol/seek and source/prog are working and the bottom 2 are not working at all, what is the problem?
If they all light up the ones that don’t work need to be replaced that’s my guess since they do light up they are getting power to them but don’t work so I would replace the ones not working
On the topic, I had a airbag fault, disconnected the battery, replaced the two front airbag crash sensors, got rid of the fault only now after reconnecting the battery, all my steering controls quit working. Does this fuse also affect whether or not the controls work? Thanks!
@@peyton240 - yea, turned out it was my alarm system that needed reset. The alarm went in to safe mode and shuts down all gauges and running. I was able to unplug both terminals, wait a while, reconnect them negative first and it was fine.

@@270WeekendWarrior there’s got to be another fuse then because the one I do in the video is only for the back light 💡 and only that because all the buttons worked with that fuse blown only the back light 💡 was not working so I feel like there has to be another fuse either inside or under hood that caused that issue for you not sure

@Rafael Rosas I think I know what you mean so did you use to have a steering wheel with no buttons on it before then you swapped it for one with the buttons on it?
If all your buttons don't work it must be another fuse maybe under the hood the fuse i show in the video is for the illumination of those steering wheel buttons
I'm going to say no and the only reason I'm saying no is because mine didn't light up but they still worked just fine no issues at all so it would not illuminate but would work do all your buttons like all of them not work??
Does that fuse power the controls themselves or just the lights for the controls. My lower buttons aren't working, looks like this might be a fix. Thanks for the video!
It only powers the lights on the buttons but you can buy the buttons that are not working on ebay they are not that expensive but it is hard to put back in the steering wheel hope this helps
If you replaced the radio did you install the aftermarket module for steering wheel controls if you did not then that is the reason they are no longer working
Yes I did install the aftermarket module for steering. Volume control was working for awhile, but then it quit. Also cant change radio station from steering wheel. I can only control the volume and change station on the stereo only.
@@rjkincaid9673 I've had that issue before whatever steering wheel module you installed could of gone bad but also some how it unprogrammed the only reasons i can think of that happening
@@rjkincaid9673 i would say that steering wheel control module has a process on how to programm it i would look at that I'm not sure if the battery will do anything to it
Same idea except the diode is let's current flow one way an not the other so it don't fry the comp by using a fuse an it accidentally surges through that fuse before it blows then that's it for the electrical system lol.
In this day and age, why in the hell are they still using fusable links! Then again effing GM. They still kept using ancient ass tech up till 2002 in gauge cluster motors, air gap crap from the 50s or 60s.
