Co-opting Zach and Jess's act was the smartest thing CollegeHumor has done in a while. Trying to find two people and a host who could keep up with those two is a challenge
Since people in Merkmere had an incredibly short lifespan of approximately six years, you would think that Geribold Henry wouldn't harbor such deep-seated vengeance towards those who wronged her and would instead choose to live her extraordinarily brief life to the fullest.
Can we talk about Scott Passarella (King of pianists, pianist of kings) at 02:30 becoming Scott Passarella (King of conductors, conductor of kings) for a moment? God damn
So she's out for vengeance against her sister who opened up a button box thread and beyond store just to compete against her own button box store Damn that's a gripping betrayal
What you have to understand about Merkmere is that since their lifespans are typically so short, their education system is very poor. These children do not know what a third of anything is. They probably shouldn't be running businesses.
Seeing a clip of this on TikTok is what finally convinced me to get dropout because as someone who has followed offbook pod for a couple years I needed to know the context for this. When I tell you I was shook that Jess came up with the store thing in that moment and it wasn’t a recap of a plot that had already been established. And Scott and the rest of the band really just tie it all together so beautifully. Everyone in this episode was at the top of their game 👏🏼
I know most people say being a production assistant sucks, but I feel like this is the place where you wanna be a PA. like I feel like they get to witness some of the most talented people ever every day
i don't know what it is about this song but I keep coming back! once i think about it i have to listen like 5 times. jess going staccato during the acapella parts, zach jumping in to give a supporting backing, the little giggle when she says 'tiny boxes' 😂❤
Every time I see an episode I start doubting if it's not scripted, enormous props to the band as well, freestyling words and singing a key is one thing (incredible in it's own right) but the musical understanding and timing, stopping to play only to jump back in, superb
Scott (the keyboard player) is quite possibly one of the best improv musicians on the planet. In this he is practically improvising the entire score (minus vocals) of this song.
⚠️Everybody should know this by now, but the comment reply I received by "CH" is NOT College Humor. It is a scam. Do not call/text that number, and do not use any Telegram or Phone Numbers provided to you by RUclips comments. Report that "Text xxxxxxxx" account as spam.
I think it added drama and have extra room for the harmonies to shine. plus you can see her struggling at first first with the music going away but as it goes on she nails it. Especially the part around 2:20
I love this show so much and I feel bad for saying this, but Mano was the worst choice for this show. I just can't watch it with him as the host. Sam's enthusiasm for musical improv was infectious on Game Changers, but with Mano I always just get the sense that he would rather be on stage with the performers and it creates a tension that is uncomfortable and doesn't work for me. Maybe rotating hosts would solve the issue so that Mano could get some time on stage.
I also feel bad saying this, but I agree the show feels underwhelming despite the great casts. Oh I loved the talents, loved the improvs, loved the whole talented band, but something about how the show progressed feels a little jagged and not authentic. Just play after play after play. I find Mano's manner of instructions and comments rather intrusive to the flow. I was afraid I'm being biased and gave it the whole season a try, and there are gems here and there because the casts are just that talented. Still, when Sam's Game Changer "Karaoke Night" came out, I find that I missed his enthusiasm.
@@nanwijanarko1969 I definitely miss Sam, but honestly the second season of this show has felt WAY more natural and comfortable so far. I think they were still figuring it out in this first season, but since then they've really relaxed into it and found what works best for the format. Including better prompts that give more freedom to the performers!
@@vandercudo That's more than fair lol. If it helps (in case this type of show just isn't your thing, I think it's hilarious), this is probably the most eccentric thing they make right now. Dropout is the platform CH turned into, still run by the same people but better because no corporate overlord, and their offerings are like 50% TTRPG live play and 50% comedic offerings from the CH cast that would be familiar to fans from just before the switch to Dropout. It's way different now, but they've been doing it all on their own now and making it work
Does Collegehumor even write and produce skits anymore? I've been unsubscribed for almost a year because of it. I mean I like their other content I just always looked forward to their particular brand of humor in sketches. It's so formulaic now the channel is kinda boring. I miss CollegeHumors edge. At least their still afloat though, which from what I understand was why they changed in the first place, it was necessary to stay profitable.
They've definitely moved to more live/improv/gameshow stuff in the past few years. I think the closest thing they have to actual scripted content is the Breaking News series. The last scripted sketch they did was likely like a year or two ago? One of the CEO sketches or if Google was a Guy I think.
@@olaweee12 It definitely seems that way. The last one was that wasn't animated and was directed like a sketch was the hardware store rebranding video. It did pretty well and got over 1M views. I'm not saying that I only came for the sketches but I do miss them.
@RiiFT I completely get what you mean, but I *would* argue that what CH was during its weakest days (before the reacquiring and all that) was formulaic. They'd developed their formula strictly, and were sticking to it. Now, they've got a plethora of different series, all with wildly different vibes, and a cast that clearly loves making them. It can be hard to tell though, since it's all behind a subscription. I can't recommend highly enough that you grab the Dropout free trial, I did it and ended up not going back :P. Someone else mentioned Breaking News potentially being your cup of tea, but Gamechanger is by far the standout for me.

Most of their shows are smart.
Since people in Merkmere had an incredibly short lifespan of approximately six years, you would think that Geribold Henry wouldn't harbor such deep-seated vengeance towards those who wronged her and would instead choose to live her extraordinarily brief life to the fullest.
Oh, I thought the average life expectancy in Merkmere was 14?
@@mamba-do-ugeribold mentions that they left Merkmere for two years, "which is a third of our life".
@@darkgloomie ah, okay, I guess just the oldest of them live to 14 (1st song of the full thing)
@@darkgloomieshe actually said "a 1/3 of most lifes" so it is not them that are 6
Solution : the average expectancy is 14 years and the median expectancy is 6 years.
So they just made a melody with counter melody on the fly? real talent at play here.
The dramatic turn to "vengeance" at the end by Jess was killer!
Can we talk about Scott Passarella (King of pianists, pianist of kings) at 02:30 becoming Scott Passarella (King of conductors, conductor of kings) for a moment? God damn
No, we can't talk about it. His performance would leave anyone speechless.

Geribold Henry sounds like what my pet gerbil would rename themselves if they gained sentience and an ivy league education
I now cannot get the image of gerbil Geribold Henry wearing a suit and selling tiny boxes for buttons out of my head now 😂
their improv skills are always so good.

!!! Good stuff. Although I feel like rival and adjacent sibling-owned shops come up in Off Book surprisingly often 😂
that scream at the end was the perfect thing
I know most people say being a production assistant sucks, but I feel like this is the place where you wanna be a PA. like I feel like they get to witness some of the most talented people ever every day
If you told me I could only keep one streaming service, I would unhesitatingly choose Dropout.

Hoping this comes back for season 2. Honestly hoping everything comes back for another season, Dropout hasn't missed in a long while
There was some bts of this set on Insta last month iirc. So defs a second season in the horizon
this is the best play it by ear song so far, so excited for the next season
i JUST saw the Game Changer episode where this cast was featured and I LAUGHED so hard during the whole thing! They're incredible!
This is my favorite episode of the show, largely because of this song.
GOD this song is so coool, they use the parts where there's a lack of music SO WELL!!!
I love the almost death stare that Jess gives at 2:27... it's so threatening combined with the music. Probably my favorite part of the song.
Just looked at most popular videos for this channel and there is a clear pattern
People keep telling me I’m always out for vengeance. We’ll see about that.
The Count of Monte Cristo in a nutshell.
Sweeny Todd
2:30 hits wayyyy too hard
Amazing improv and singing! I really liked when they sang together, very funny
Huzzah! So much talent by all of those involved.
Cant wait for next season
I want to see more of improv musicals!
Man 1 like Isn’t enough, I started watch this because of their song lol I really enjoyed this episode
dammit now i have to rewatch all of play it by ear
Welp tike to rewatch all of these
I want all of their songs on Spotify so bad
Buttons Needles and Boxes Galore

this is hillarious
not the shriek at the end.
I totally expected the Batman show up
The Zoidberg exit off of stage was classic
Season 3 when???
Why does this have huge Frank Wildhorn vibes tho
Incredible! 😄
Okay, but how to apply to work there
my favorite song!!
Yay improv 🔥
amazing
so when Will the music drop on Spotify?
so freakin good!!!!
Wow! Lot's of talent! :)
Okay but the guy in the drums looks like Tim Allen and it weirds me out.
Is this on spotify by any chance?
Humorous
Was this all improvised??!!😧
yeah!!
