Those paper cups are 90's.There was also a credit card processor. Lay the card down , put a carbon copy receipt on top of card then slide the red thing over, have the customer sign it, give a copy to customer keep one for business. That is why credit cards were embossed.
i got my first credit card in 2010 and the ONE place i went to still had this carbon recipe thing.. but they switsched to a regular machine soon after..
I still remember ever so fondly using those credit card processors. 😄 It was fun if you had your finger in a wrong spot and a bit of your skin got pinched when you rolled back and forth with the slider. On top of that, you had to act like nothing happened, because of course the customer was watching.
This made me tear up, I can see the family that owned this and it looks like they just had to walk away one day. So many families probably passed through here.
Sorry you've been going through some tough times Brennen, but glad to see you back keeping us entertained - looking forward to some more Alone episodes :)
10:09 My dad enjoyed you trying to figure out the credit card printer ("It's not a reader!"). He says they would put your credit card on the metal brown bit towards the bottom right, and it would in print your credit card numbers as well as a charge. They would generally make 4 carbon copies, one for you, one for them, one for the credit card company (It would have to be mailed to them! Wild.). People would steal the carbons to get credit card numbers.
floor tiles and seats are from the early 70's, the drop ceiling is 80's, the wall paintings are from the late 80's, the styrofoam cups are from the late '80s or early '90s, cash register from the late '80s or early '90s, and the omelettes price were from the earlier '90s. so I guess the last served was before 1995.
Really reminds me of a chain of old diners we had in Ottawa called "Rockin Johnnies". It's amazing to see the place in such good condition. I've found most diners end up pretty run down; this actually looks better than some of the places I've eaten in!
There are still two Rockin' Johnny's that are open! I haven't been inside recently, and there used to be more of them around. Other restaurants like Zak's, Dunn's, Perkins or the Elgin Street Diner have better hours, though.
Thank God I'm not the only one who remembers the rolling towels in public restrooms 😂👌 Thankfully, there were companies who kept them sanitized, but geez, thinking about the germs wrapped up so tightly on the dirty rolls tucked back up into the machine kind of turns my stomach now 😜☣️⚠️
The “motor” is actually refrigerant lines and a compressor to help cool the cabinet. Serving veg, they need to keep it a certain cooled temperature. Also, the grimy under counter cabinet was a refrigerator. That temperature gauge monitors the temp inside it. 👍 Great to have you back! Great vid! 😊
I saw an instagram post not only a few days ago, with that JPEG imagine of that cup design, with the caption. "I don't know how I remember this but I remember this". And there the mystery is solved

So cool to see you back Brennen!! And hey to Jake!! Wow this place was a time capsule!! The cash register looked a lot like the Casio model that I used to use at the shop I worked at in the early 80s. Not familiar with the receipt machine however that was new to me. Such a cool little place, very interesting! 💯🌈👱♀️ Cindy
Oh fantastic to see you back 😊 What a fabulous find, such a great design... Apart from keeping the food weighing scales Just above the loo so lovely gross particles can fly up through the air to land over various food preparation items each time the loos flushed 🤢😮 Other than that, fabulous place, I really loved the taps handle at the ice-cream section 😊 Looking forward to seeing more videos from you when you're able 💖
Really happy to see you around again Brennen. There was a really happy point in my life where i was sharing your vids + the ADR vids on the daily! Hope for the best for you and your creative goals! :)
I feel like I saw this Same Restaurant on the Internet years ago. And they said it had been abandoned back in 2008-2009. Very cool video always love these kinds of places.
Nice place to discover Welcome back and take it easy. Losing beloved ones is very hard on the mind. I have been very down after losing my dad. Its a struggle to get up again. Love watching your vids.
I might be wrong. But those rolls of blue fabric were probably reusable drying towels for the bathrooms instead of paper towel. They went into a similar dispenser but you use a knob to roll out the sheet and the part that’s been used gets rolled back into the dispenser. Again I might be wrong.
Super excited to see this new video, as I just recently discovered this awesomeness ❤ I love the attention to detail and the interesting information shared during the videos. I look forward to more of your adventures.

Hmmm...I'd say this place started up at the very end of the 70s and died late 90s ish. Seat colors definitely 80s pastel. Most appliances fit the early to mid 80s and just never got upgraded. Those cups at 3:00 have the "Jazz" design which debuted in 1992. The CC cameras at 3:53 look to be Sanyo VCB‐3424 models which were B&W and sold from like 77 on. 15:37 check extinguishers for last inspection date, should give you an estimate for the closure within 12 months.
Candle Brand Microwaves were really a 70s thing so my best guess is this diner was pre-70s and went out of business somewhere after the 90s due to production of these microwaves being unavailable after the 80s.
Because there are no smoking signs on the wall and going by the coke machine and stalls and colour decor i would say the diner is late 80s to 90s since smoking in diners were banned mid 80s.
Those paper cups are 90's.There was also a credit card processor. Lay the card down , put a carbon copy receipt on top of card then slide the red thing over, have the customer sign it, give a copy to customer keep one for business. That is why credit cards were embossed.
I was just about to say that those cups have the Jazz design which came out in the 90s, so the diner operated atleast until then.
i got my first credit card in 2010 and the ONE place i went to still had this carbon recipe thing.. but they switsched to a regular machine soon after..

The blue "curtains" were actually for the bathroom towel dispenser. But it just rolled a cleaner spot on the roll. Before paper towels.

Yes, thats for credit cards, it would print on one copy, and the pressure would transfer the carbon to the second copy.
