No one did any head Xray or CT to see if there was a physical cause.. He later had brain surgery for a tumor found after seizures started. It did help and we got our brother back but he later passed at home probably after a seizure and hit his head.... how many may have a physical cause that isn't checked....

Had to make room for someone else in the rubber room. I think they just use it to get them medicated enough to take their meds when told. Id say being in a nut house for a week, ur body would go through withdrawals and they would be treating that while there but that wouldn't be enough to keep them if they are showing signs of improvement and signs that they are holding steady, at what point would you release them??? Once they figure out why they can't leave they would most likely try to mimic the staff in which it would cause the staff to believe ur doing very well and ur steady and improved overall.
What ur saying is basically use the nut house as a new jail to hold people indefinitely with out due process and no charges..

It was the hospital and the insurance IMHO who were responsible for 5 children's lives being taken. Andrea Yates was nuts and the hospital knew it, and the health insurance did not care to let her stay for months if necessary. Money, money, money. If the hospital fought for Andrea Yates at the time, refusing to release her, 5 kids would be alive. I have no doubt about that. She needed medication and observations for long term.

My niece is a paranoid schizophrenic and has “episodes”. She goes off her meds from time to time and the doctors always say “she’s fine”. Her most recent episode happened a couple of weeks ago. She barricaded herself in her room all day, got out at 1am, police chased her and she dislocated one of their shoulders, was combative with medics… Psychologist said she was fine and doc let her go. She ran away from the hospital once released. Filed a missing person report 24 hrs later. She was found 3 days later behind a dumpster downtown with nothing but a tank top on. Asked if she was “touched” and she said “no I just wanted to take my clothes off”… she’s 26 and we’ve been told we can’t drug her (force her to take her meds) and trying to keep her away from the public is kidnapping. Soooo she’s going to hurt someone to get the “right help” which is a damn shame.

Unfortunately that’s exactly what it will take. Medical professionals never did anything but “stabilize “ my son and back on the street he’d go. He was living in a house with my ex, his dad. I told the staff someone would get hurt. My son threw scalding water on his dad, he had to have skin grafts and be hospitalized. My son is still in county jail waiting for a mental health bed. It’s been over 3 years now.

Not releasing someone a danger out into society without proper treatment and medication and 2.) Protect said patient from harming self. But did he? Without the son's medical records, we only have the father's word. He may have thought he mentioned it, but didn't. He may have told a nurse, not a doctor. Then, that nurse went into the next room, and had to help hold down a violent patient, and forgot to pass on that information to the doctor. The father may not have been allowed in his adult son's room, or not even gone to the hospital with him, and now he knows his son is in trouble, and he is saying that to alleviate his responsibility. One thing I have learned in my 28 yrs as an RN: people lie. Another thing I have noticed, is everyone is willing to put all of the blame on the hospital who may or may not have been aware of him hearing voices, but none on his parents who would have been 100% aware of it, but did nothing to protect their daughter in law by asking her to stay with them in their home. If they were so convinced that their son were a threat, why let her stay alone with him? Why not bring him immediately to another hospital? Why not sit up all night with him until he could be evaluated in the morning by emergency psych services? There were many things the parents could have also done to prevent this. Unless, of course, you are willing to admit that no one could have foreseen this. That would then let the hospital off the hook for any responsibility, too. Just some things to think about while quarterbacking from the armchair.

There was no father and Im guessing she was here illegally. She came to the US to work so she could finance her mother's cancer treatment back in her home country.
If the cancer didnt kill her, her daughter's murder will.
Angie wanted that green card in a bad so she could help her family. How very sad.
      Rest in peace dear Angel.

Cops are so bumbling, I swear. The basic communication of WHICH house the body is in and they can't even get that simple detail correct.

Example of our country's failed mental health / drug treatment system.

@@maramirkin3325 being up for a week because of drugs will make you hear and see things. Being up for a week without drugs will make you pretty messed up. I can’t even imagine what happens with though I have had a few people explain their experiences to me. All I could ask was why would you willingly do that to yourself? It never sounded fun in the least.

The doctor told them the son was fine and released him.
      Not the parents fault.

These detectives were one of the worst I’ve ever seen at interrogations. They could have gotten much more useful information had they gone about it properly. He must have had a crappy lawyer also. I’d be interested in watching the trial.

The idea that searching someone's house to investigate a murder is a threat or threatening is ridiculous just as it's ridiculous to even think that someone's going to shoot your dogs just because they want to search your property.
